Like I said, its coming from BOTH SIDES now, hard and fast... the left want to mental-health-check every gun owner and the right are being persuaded to agree. How many prescriptions will that fill? Your knee-jerk tendency to reduce this into a political matter is exactly what you have been conditioned for. Gerald Celente says "Its the Crypts and the Bloods, both are gangsters".

Go to the doctor and see if they ask you if you have been feeling down lately, or if you've thought about suicide. Go ahead... have you thought about suicide? How can you avoid thinking about it when you hear it 14 times every day? THIS AIN'T POLITICS, THIS IS OUR SURVIVAL.
The difference between zero and the smallest possible number? It doesn't matter; once you cross that edge, it might as well be the difference between zero and 1. The difference between infinity and reality? They are mutually exclusive.

Now we're getting down to brass tacks.

Retired USSC justice John Paul Stevens suggests that those concerned by the spate of gun violence work to do something that would actually make a difference (as opposed to pissing in the wind): repeal the second amendment.

Will this be yet another flash in the pan without change, or will a groundswell build, led by the upcoming generation?

Personally im for repeal. Gun nuts dont really need their guns and we see the violence they cause

However history has taught us what happens in this country when attempting to repeal a treasured right. I fear a 2nd amendment repeal would only result in an underground market several orders beyond what may already exist and create a new rise in organized crime

A 2nd amendment repeal would cut the legs out for all the unconstitutional rulings and legal arguments against regulation that have prevailed so far. It would only be a first step, but the height of a cliff.

I've been discussing this over on DT as well, so I apologize if I'm repeating myself here, but NOW is the time for responsible gun owners to sit down and craft meaningful restrictions and enforcement measures, as well as closing the several loopholes and fixing unenforceable (in practicAL terms) laws.

The train is a-coming.

The 2nd Ammendment will never be repealed and there is no train coming. Bump stocks will be banned. The minimum age to buy a rifle will probably go up to 21. Eventually, newly purchased firearms will have to be registered and individual sales to other individuals will have to go through a background check and registration transfer. Nothing all that dramatic and none of which will stop mentally ill mass murderers.

I support the shooting sports by responsible use of my firearms. I let women and children shoot my guns, so that they can experience the joy of the shooting sports. I also have a very large collection of firearms, including NFA machine guns.

Having said that, I also believe in reasonable reforms and restrictions on the right to use firearms...plus I really despise the NRA....

The first step towards reasonable firearms reform would be to pass national carry reciprocity, and those wishing to carry across state lines must be properly licensed. The patch work of gun laws in the US can result in gun owners, who have no ill intent, becoming felons. This form of restriction is necessary to ensure compliance with various state laws.

Secondly, silencers must be deregulated. There’s really no reason to regulate silencers with the National Firearms Act, other than the overblown and misunderstood fear of the Hollywood assassin myth.

Third, the shooting sports should be offered as a class elective in middle school or earlier, in order to teach children the responsible use of firearms. The current attitude about firearms reminds me of the puritanical sex adverse people in the 90s who thought the best way to prevent teenage pregnancy was to just teach abstinence.

Fourth, the 922(o) ban for new machine guns, commonly known as the Hughes amendment, must be repealed. The fact that a pre-86 machine gun costs $30,000 to six figures is a pure form of economic discrimination against those who can not afford said guns.

Finally, the NRA has long since championed itself as defenders of the Second Amendment, but it is not. The NRA encouraged Reagan to sign the Firearms Owner Protection Act, which has the 922(o) poison pill attached. If not for the NRA, Reagan would have vetoed FOPA, and Congress could have passed FOPA again without the poison pill attached. Now generations of Americans are being economically discriminated against.

Also, the NRA helped facilitate the call to ban bump stocks. ATF has already ruled that bump stocks were not machine guns, so there was no need for the NRA to get involved in the bump stock issue.

The NRA has even come out in favor of gun confiscation as a result of restraining orders, which even the ACLU opposes because of due process violations. If someone is so dangerous that their guns need to be confiscated, they should first be convicted. This is just a disgusting position that the NRA has taken.

Finally, Marion Hammer, a senior lobbyist of the NRA, based out fo Florida, was responsible for lobbying for some of the recent firearms legislation that was passed in Florida. She needs to be replaced with forward thinking NRA board candidates such as Adam Kraut, who will advocate for dismantling and repeal of the National Firearms Act, Gun Control Act of 1968, and the Hughes Amendment.

Wayne LaPierre and Marion Hammer need to go!

For now, support and donate to Gun Owners of America and the Second Amendment Foundation, in lieu of the NRA.

Common Sense Gun reform now!

Can't anyone see what's happening to us? We are all being manipulated by the mass media and the medical establishment to become crazed drug addicts for life by the big-pharma industry. Our bought-and-paid-for government is promoting it, and our bought-and-paid-for medical schools preach it.

You say it, everyone thanks you. I say it, i need a mental check up and a visit to the doctor. Interesting forum we have here.

Not to mention, I haven't even gotten into the medical mafia and what they are doing and getting away with. Health insurance is a scam. Insurance is not ASSURANCE. Prevention is the best insurance policy. Not to mention all health insurance does is get you to go to these so called 'professionals' only to be prescribed drugs that you don't need and that will in the long run kill you faster and keep you coming back for more and more drugs to continue to fix the symptom, but not the problem. All these recurring visits lead to you know what, MONEY to the medical mafia establishment.

These doctors have an incentive to sell you drugs once the pharma sales rep invades their clinic. They then sell you a mass quantity, in which you will only need 1 or 2 tablets, when in reality, you need ZERO tablets and need to fix your body through diet, exercise, and fasting. Diet, exercise, and fasting doesn't sell though and is completely contradictory to the medical establishment agenda. I'm not saying all doctor are out to get you, there are some honorable doctors out there such as holistic doctors and even the ones who recommend you drugs. Most of these doctors that sells these drugs are actually doing it because they're so misinformed about what their medical school brainwashed them with and are just sticking to the script they were taught and don't know any better.

BUT, this all goes FULL CIRCLE once again, regarding my original posts about all this corruption whether it's the government, medical mafia, casinos, it ALL revolves around MONEY and how we need a money-free society. All money does is create an immoral, unethical, corrupt, pathetic world to live in. People do whatever it takes to get that illusion of money in their wallet. That piece of paper in everyone's wallet is worth just as much as a piece of loose leaf paper. Both of them are worth ZERO.

Sez the guy who moved cross country to try and beat casinos out of little colored discs exchangeable only for worthless
pieces of paper. White chips, red chips, yellow chips, all equally worthless as all they do is get you worthless pieces of paper.
If you want to make the world a better place, start with thyself.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

John Paul Stevens: Repeal the Second Amendment

Rarely in my lifetime have I seen the type of civic engagement schoolchildren and their supporters demonstrated in Washington and other major cities throughout the country this past Saturday. These demonstrations demand our respect. They reveal the broad public support for legislation to minimize the risk of mass killings of schoolchildren and others in our society.

Concern that a national standing army might pose a threat to the security of the separate states led to the adoption of that amendment, which provides that “a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Today that concern is a relic of the 18th century.

When organizations like the National Rifle Association disagreed with that position and began their campaign claiming that federal regulation of firearms curtailed Second Amendment rights, Chief Justice Burger publicly characterized the N.R.A. as perpetrating “one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat the word fraud, on the American public by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime.”

klimate10,

Thanks for such a thoughtful post. I agree with some of it, disagree with some, but it's helpful ,and with insight. Appreciate it.

What about Ducks Unlimited? I consider them a very useful advocate for responsible gun use and conservation . Wonder what you think of them?

"You are 36% conservative and 64% liberal, you are Left-of-Center!"

I tried to answer honestly, but to be really honest I think almost all of the questions are FLAWED. As in I would select something different than ALL of the answers.

The one question about regulating prices from companies:

Q: "Do you think prices for goods and services should be regulated by the government?"

1) Healthcare prices need regulation
2) Free-market capitalism is best for the economy
3) Businesses should be allowed to charge whatever they want
4) Goods and services must be regulated - corporations are greedy

So in an ideal world, free-market capitalism works best (very conservative of me to say)... but let's look at REALITY: 100 companies compete and over a couple years are bought out and widdled down to 4 giant companies. Then instead of free-market capitalism working, they all meet in secret and agree to slice up America and stay out of each others way, so they can then in turn RAPE the customer with no competition... I give you Cox, Spectrum, AT&T, Dish. The system is broke AF. We need more regulations (liberal of me) to avoid monopolies, and them setting up monopolies that don't 'qualify' as one (such as above).

The old days of "I'll take my money elsewhere" is out the window... this BREAKS capitalism. You need to have fair options to encourage competition and fair pricing. Try changing your electric company (you can't)... or how about your trash company (you can't)... etc, etc, etc.
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

Electric company? Solar. Suppose would have to move somewhere where there’s sun though. I guess that price is artificially inflated at this point to keep us on the grid anyway.

Trash service? Other people don’t just burn theirs? (Joke, as bad as always)

I was honest with my answers. I have no reason to tout myself as a liberal or conservative.

There were some questions where it should have had a box for none of the above, or I don't know/care.

I'm anti-anyone who is extreme either way.

Case in point: I don't like when people say ban all guns, on the other hand, I don't like when people think everyone should have the right to buy as many or any danm gun they want.

I'm sure you spent lots of time living there both before and post Rudy. Right?
Crime today is less than it was during Rudys term, relations between the police and the residents are infinitely better and property values are stronger.
All of America had bad crime in the late 1980s/early 1990s. The crack epidemic was horrible everywhere. Rudy wasn't a horrible mayor, it's just he followed David Dinkins. Perhaps the most inept politician to ever hold office. Anyone would have looked better after him. Bloomberg did at least as good a job as Mr. G and the current Mayor has done a decent job. All the BS neocons have been saying for the last four years has proven to be as fake as they are. Business is booming. Crime is lower than it ever was during G's tenure. DiBlasio is putting up crime stats Rudy could only dream about.

\

Freakanomics showed that the New York crime was drastically lower due to the city's demographics changing. Rudy can take some credit too, but you would have to give credit to Bloomberg to and DeBlasio.

... NOW is the time for responsible gun owners to sit down and craft meaningful restrictions and enforcement measures, as well as closing the several loopholes and fixing unenforceable (in practicAL terms) laws.

Seems kind of simple.

NICS should be an easy thing. It's already up, already used by many. It should be a common sense thing to do to require it, no different than checking a birth cert to verify DOB on your license. Only caveat, figure out some way it can be monitored and audited without prejudice so its effectiveness can be ascertained, and be open to cutting or keeping it based on actual facts. And on that note, begin culling other regs meant to "control" but do nothing but eat money, a la bullet fingerprinting. Should be no reason some easy to do and common sense ideas can't come to fruition, says the man who lives in the land of the War on Drugs...

Age? Probably never agree on this, simply because I was carrying as a kid. I guess I don't see much of a difference between 18 and 21. I was doing the same things at both ages, just at different speeds lol. Make it 21 if is assuages your fears. Any male under 30 who acquires a gun is getting it from Pops anyway. The struggle is real.

CDC to study? Absolutely. There's simply zero arguable reason not to, unless somehow the cost to do so is inexplicably enormous. Hint: It won't be. Do it.

Now what? Alls I know to do from here is to convince people to vote for me.

Both you and Zcore are right, why are we not banning other things that cause death as well? Ill tell you why, because there is no amendment to get rid of for those things and is not in the best interest of govt and big pharma. Guns on the other hand is in the govt's best interest to get rid of to gain massive control over the population and create the inevitable police and communist state as history shows us will happen.

Until the medical mafia and the swamp is cleared from govt, this country is doomed. It's a sad state of affairs when the younger generation is so easily brainwashed and holding rallies. Where are the rallies to get rid of big pharma and this toxic plastic being prescribed to us on every doctors visit? Are people seriously this idiotic? Do they not realize how powerful the human body is and that drugs are not the answer. Unbelievable. Oh wait, maybe these rallies are all govt shills to carry out the agenda that there is some kind of 'movement' going on. Nice try govt
Any private business open to the PUBLIC (ie. droned out casinos) cannot have a criminal trespass enforced against an individual without GOOD CAUSE (Disruptive or Disorderly conduct). You will never go to prison for being thrown out of a casino for legal advantage play and then returning because it's simply unconstitutional 'as applied' to the individual. 'As applied' constitutional issues must FIRST be raised in DISTRICT COURT (trial court) to have it thrown out. You CANNOT raise it on APPEAL This is the best kept secret in the world of casinos not just in Vegas but everywhere in the country. Thank me later.

And let me help you out a litter ... sex can cause STD, AIDS, and many other deadly and contagious diseases, and consequently sex should be banned too.

Because we need water. We may not need cars, but the benefits far outweigh the risks.

Not having an AR15 will have very little effect on someone's life for the most part.

Who cares what other things people might die from, we are talking about guns. Comparing burgers and fries to guns is dumb.

And all you pro gun control advocates are completely naive and brainwashed to think a law on the books will ever stop a criminal from getting his guns illegally, whether in the U.S or in some other country. You think someone sick in the head that's gonna end his life as soon as hes done, cares about what's written in the statutes? There's literally nothing you can do to stop them. The only way you can stop them is addressing the root problem, which is called PREVENTION. Yes, PREVENTION. Prevention doesn't sell though. It's much easier to drug someone up and treat the symptom. It's much easier to ban guns and treat the symptom. No one ever wants to address the problem because there's no MONEY or in their BEST INTEREST to address the problem.
I don't think the founders in their wisdom really thought about the idea that EVERYONE, even paranoid hallucinating lunatics should have a gun by default until they proved they were actually dangerous by shooting people.

Because if they had really thought about it, they would never have allowed that to be the default condition.

No, but they warned about a misleading and corrupt immoral gov't that will brainwash everyone through the media/press or any measure possible to think there's a major problem when there is not, to fulfill their agenda. Turn off the tv and get off social media. Read your Constitution 10 times repeatedly and memorize it. Read the Federalist Papers and Madisons Notes. Try to understand what this country was founded upon and the history of corrupt governments around the world and what they do to try and control the masses. Also stop going to these so called doctors who are labeled 'professionals' that only prescribe drugs that you don't need that will only kill you faster and empty your wallet. Instead go and try to fix your life through diet, exercise, and fasting. It's free and your body will thank you.

The fact that there is a media backlash regarding guns, but no media backlash ever about all the deaths caused by these so called drugs prescribed by doctors should tell you all you need to know about the society you live in and what the real agenda is. Why does the media always cover up all the deaths and long term negative side effects caused by vaccines and prescribed drugs? Why does the media run and hide? Where is the backlash to end every drug on the planet? Why are never focusing on prevention of any kind and resort to treating the symptom for a 'quick fix'. ANSWER : PREVENTION DOESN'T SELL. Just look at these drug commercials. Have you never noticed whenever the time comes to talk about the side effects, they subconsciously change the background imaging to people smiling and having a hell of a time. This is all done purposely to disguise you from hearing the side effects or have it go through one ear and out the next.

People don't understand how dangerous the tele-lie-vision is in their houses truly are. They don't understand how dangerous newspapers used to be. Social Media is the new 'newspaper' and it's as dangerous as it used to be. Fear, intimidation, lies are all fed to the public on the daily by the media and changes how their brain functions. Turn off your tv, get off social media, and memorize your constitution and read every supreme court ruling you can get your hands on. You will never live in fear again.

You won't be able to stop ALL criminals from getting guns, that's obvious. But I'm fairly certain many senseless deaths and mass shooting may not have occurred if it was much harder to get guns.

Is it worth more gun control laws to save lives? I don't know the answer to that. What are lives worth, whats it worth to keep guns as they are now? It's hard to know what may have happened in the past or will be prevented in the future.

I'm all for certain people getting any gun they want, but allowing just about everyone to easily get guns seems absurd.

If I'm walking through Northtown at night, you danm well better believe I wish guns and knives had never been invented. Even if I had one myself in that situation, I cant know whos going to shoot at me from a distance(obviously not likely since I can just avoid that situation).

You're missing the point. Focusing on 'guns' or 'gun control' is not the problem why mass murders are occurring. Look at the people who carry this out(that is of course, even if they are legitimately sick people and not govt shills bought out), these people are sick in the head and either are on some type of medication(drugs) or suffered some mental trauma in their lives.

Why are we not focusing on mental health of people and why people are becoming so sick mentally? Where is the outcry to ban drugs? It's a fact drugs do nothing but cure the symptom and do nothing for anyone long term. Why are we not focusing on lifestyle changes, creating a positive work environment and positive household environment. Why are we not trying to screen or question parents that might be mentally and physically abusive to their kids that causes their kids to become depressed, anxious, etc down the line? Why are we not conducting autopsies on these shooters brains after they are dead?

These are the real questions that should be answered, not holding rallies worrying about the symptom which is gun violence. The gun is the end tool for a sick and deprived individual. Why are we not focusing on the root problem, the beginning tool?

When I say gov't, im not talking about the senators and the house of representatives. I'm talking about the people behind the scenes who really run the government. You know, the international bankers who bought out congress in the early 1900s to get the federal reserve act passed. Yeah, those guys. But that aside, don't let it distract you from the rest of the post because even if they are not shills, i explained the deal of what is going on in society.

I think it's hilarious that there are conspiracy theorists who believe the government is orchestrating these massively complicated false flag operations involving hundreds if not thousands of people, when it would be EXPONENTIALLY easier to simply brainwash one person to actually do it for real. Why do you need to pay dozens or hundreds of crisis actors to PRETEND a shooting happened when you can just drug one guy to ACTUALLY shoot up the place? Way less moving parts, way less complication, superior outcome.

Meanwhile those same people are popping pills in their mouths slowly killing themselves. Where are the rallies to ban drugs? Where are the rallies to hold pharmaceuticals responsible for lying and misleading the public to take this plastic prescribed to them each doctors visit? Where are the rallies to hold the media responsible for covering up every single death and long term side effects caused by medication. Where is the ban on drugs? WHERE? I think im officially destroying my TV and deactivating social media and never picking up another newspaper.

Lastly, if there's gun control for the people, there better be gun control for the government. Why should the government be the only ones to have guns? How can people seriously be this stupid? I feel so sorry for these teenagers at these little rallies and also for society as a whole. They know nothing about american history or history surrounding corrupt govts all around the world. They think just because its the government, we should trust them. Yes, the very own government that is known to lie straight to our faces for centuries.

The citizens of other countries such as Australia also like to claim that ever since they banned guns, gun violence has gone down. Ill tell you exactly what went down and it wasnt gun violence. It was the media controlled by the their govt, they stopped with their agenda about broadcasting every single gun related story after they got what they wanted.

The brains of these naive little kids are not even fully developed yet and also dont know how the real world even works, but yet they are being given a voice and a platform. Scary times.

If more people actually read their constitution and actually UNDERSTOOD it, and stopped trying to destroy it and be completely oblivious to it, maybe this country would be what it used to be and that is the strongest and best country on earth. These little kids at these rallies dont deserve to be American. They dont know what our founding fathers and the true patriots fought for to give them the rights they have today. They should go live in Russia or China.

The United States crime rates are pretty normal when you compare them to other industrialized countries. The one glaring exception is homicide. On average, assaults in the US are 3 times more likely to involve guns than in these other countries. The difference is NOT because we have more mentally ill people. It's also not because our country has worse access to mental health care (it does). The difference is because our country has an overwhelming abundance of GUNS.

Quit blaming mentally ill people, which are more likely to be victims of such violence than perpetrators, for mass shootings and start focusing your blame on the problem, America's abundance of guns.

I'm sure guys like John Paul Stevens and Warren Burger are just ignorant hypocritical liberals and know less than the guys from Alabama posting on this forum. that illusion of money in their wallet. That piece of paper in everyone's wallet is worth just as much as a piece of loose leaf paper. Both of them are worth ZERO.

Two easy to refute points.

Life expectancy has gone up DECADES over the last 100 years due to modern technology, and modern medicine is a large part of that, especially the prescription drugs made by BIG PHARMA.

I just came back from the supermarket, and the single $100 bill allowed me to walk out with three shopping bags worth of food. One piece of paper traded for rotisserie chicken, asparagus, cashews, Gorton's fish sticks, fake crab sticks, diet soda. You may want that C note to be worth nothing, but you forgot to tell Wegmans.

Huh? Guns are the problem? I have 4 and not one has ever shot anyone, robbed a store or threatened anyone. Can you show me any news stories where a gun has done this? If guns are the problem, then aren't cars at fault for traffic fatalities?

Devil's advocate: Cars aren't at FAULT, but if we got rid of cars, there would be no more traffic fatalities.

So why don't we? They kill more people than guns. Why not start with the #1 killer??
