what statistics?

driverless cars haven't been around long enough and there aren't enough of them to have any kind of meaningful statistical study

They haven't been around for a 'long' time, but they probably have millions of miles on them. Let's just say for arguments sake that they ARE much safer than their human counterparts, what do we do about it?

Let's just say for argument's sake that a robot doll is more is more enjoyable to be around than a person's wife. What do we do about it?

Enjoy the robot doll for like 2 days and then start clamoring for REAL human interaction. ;)

There is a company testing self driving hotel rooms. This could change the entire hotel industry. Imagine you are sightseeing in Manhattan. You have a nice dinner, summon your hotel room, and wake up the next morning in DC.
It's a mini mobile home, with widescreen tv, satellite, and internet access, shower and mini bar. It comes to you and drops you off where and when you want. They claim 12 hour battery life will get you pretty much anywhere on the East Coast and batteries will be able to be easily swapped out for 24 hour service.

ya but some of us like taking a bus for 3 days to our destination. (inside joke)

This is incorrect. Waymo has been testing driverless cars in Az for years. I believe Waymo has had 1 at fault accident and no fatalities in millions of miles driven. They drive 24 hours a day on 3 shifts.

3 days to your destination just to get 86'd within 15 minutes of walking into the casino, then taking a 3-day bus ride home. Ah yes, you haven't truly lived a life worth living if you haven't spent a full week in a bus.

from the article dated December of 2018:

"Waymo has disclosed little about the tests, even as autonomous vans have racked up 10 million miles on the roads in multiple states.

The company says only that the cars run through parts of Chandler, Mesa, Tempe and the southernmost portion of Phoenix in Ahwatukee. "

just wait until they test them in: 𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝒀𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝑪𝒊𝒕𝒚 and at high speeds on very accident prone highways such as the mixing bowl outside of DC in Springfield, VA where the Beltway and Route 95 come together.....................😆

According to United States Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration, Americans now drive an average of 13,476 miles per year. Do the math and the average American drives well over 1,000 miles a month.

I did the math. maybe 250 million American drivers. 250 million times 13,476 equals - the calculator couldn't handle it but that's more than 𝟑 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 miles. Waymo's 10 million miles in mostly sparsely populated areas is nothing.
