Hello everyone! Sorry for cheesy title heh...I am sure most of us are seeking ways to make more money besides our job (and gambling?)... I've tried equity trading and internet marketing but was not successful. I've looked into real estate, cleaning and vending business however, I'm not sure what I should to get into...so I thought why not ask you wizards for ideas!

There are always people with beat up pick ups on trash night scrapping metal. Uber is everywhere now it seems too. Otherwise niche markets seem the best way if you can devote energy to something. Focus on your strengths and interests.

Depending where you live, one business opportunity is mowing lawns.
Seriously. It's a simple business to set up and for just a few hundred dollars you can buy the tools you need. Not much skill needed and you can get the venture up and running quickly and easily.

I pay a guy to do mine and it seems to be "money for old rope" All he needs is a beat up van, a powerful mower, a strimmer and an mp3 player.

My son tried to walk dogs one summer. It was a good concept but never really worked out. His idea was to walk two or three at a time but that never happened. He'd also drive twenty minutes each way to walk a dog for thirty minutes and $8. His friends would be going to the beach but he'd have three appointments and stay home to earn $24.

I got some late 80's comic books somewhere! However, I checked eBay and was surprised they're sold for just over a dollar per issue. :-/

I tried Uber last year...mostly money can be made on weekends...however, once in awhile the riders' behavior were so bad that I decided to stop working for Uber...

Not a bad idea! I live in San Diego and since it is near the border, there is a lot of competitions...another idea is to look up Craigslist and see what kind of services are being offered in local areas then offer the service yourself.

I heard there is an app where you can make a "bid" for walking dogs...even I heard another app where you get paid for standing in a long line at a popular event.

I have about a dozen books ending at auction in the next few days. They'll sell for about 3500, and I'll profit about a grand. These were books bought from other dealers too lazy to keep up with current trends.

Politics ain't all roses and glory, if you get elected; you often have to spend hours each day calling donors to make sure you get reelected.

Trading has been odd lately, a lot of it is due to algorithm's taking almost all of the small edges out of the market (excluding thinly traded penny stocks and most commodities, supposedly commodities and options are not effected; but I think they might be.)

Lawyers make good money if they become partner or are at an expensive law firm. Police make good money if they seek overtime agressively (in cities with lots of overtime) and marry another cop.

Really skilled AP's make money if they continually reinvest and protect their gains. Forming a team is good, but the challenges are either difference in skill, honesty or rate of reinvestment (many members want to reinvest little and get their reward now, others want to continually increase their win rate.) Hole carding or team play are your best choices long term, if you're good. Poker is great for the top 0.001%, but 5 card draw is the best game and it's extinct outside of home games. I'll take on all the Phil's (Ivey, Helmuth, Gordon) at my poker table for draw (though. I'd prefer rich idiots.)

I'd suggest start brothels in Greece and NV, a casino in Ireland (unregulated) and online (Caribbean server). These all cost $$$, but not as bad as the regulated areas.

Most drug dealers make little, those without drug problems are conned more than those using their own supply. They also get robbed, if they have a gun to protect themselves and get caught, even with 2nd amendment and registering it; they can get serious charges. Pimps get serious charges, even if they improved the quality of life for their girls (sad but true, lots of gutter whores would be better off with a Meck, ho manager.)

I want to get lean and tan, the porn industry is now making more content in Las Vegas than in Los Angeles, shoot scenes when I'm not counting cards. Get laid get paid, I tan well and have other qualifications; but have to lose weight to get back into making films. Since movies have all but disappeared in the last few years, there is not much work for directors; and I like getting laid anyway. Maybe being a pornstar is good camo, people wonder where they've seen you but won't admit it.

Real estate brokers can make good $$$, start a mafia family, stage a coup d'tete, smuggle coke. Those can all be lucrative. Oh, be a money launderer; there you go. (Disclaimer-all statements parody, no advice; consult a lawyer.)

I admit that I've researched on how to setup an online casino ... basically, you need a LARGE start up money ...another way to go is to become an affiliate for online casino...

billionaireben:
Thanks for your insights! Most of those opportunities are shady and luxury... investing in real estate seems the closest you can get for honest passive income and high profit ... I've looked up Forbes' top 500 wealthiest people and most of their source of income is from investing in real estate....

Purely passive investment opportunities aren't nearly as lucrative -- at least at the small dollar levels -- as actively working for it somehow. If you have enough money, you can hire someone to manage it for you. Or if you're really rich, you can hire about 1000 people to manage it for you. But until then, you need to figure out how much time you're willing to spend and what kind of return you want. If you want zero time commitment, you're either going to have to trust someone else with the money (or what you buy with it) or you're going to need to get into the public equity or bond markets -- which is really the same thing.

Apparently you can also make some decent money by selling kitchens in Cardiff or Glasgow.
