Similar to Red Light cameras, they can't pin it on a specific driver, so it would be a fine without points.
Quote: zoobrewBut what would you do if they could give you a speeding ticket, by using the E-ZPass data to calculate your average speed between your entrance and exit.
I had a similar thought some time ago.
But it was more in the light of questioning the system based on Selective Enforcement. The Definition of Speed is Distance/Time. So on most turnpikes, it is simple to calculate because there is a time stamp for when you get your ticket at the first booth (or there could be), and they know when you get off the turnpike, and they know the distance between the 2 gate booths. ( So it doesn't matter if you use EZPASS or not, right ?).
So why do they give some people tickets BUT IGNORE the majority of people, even when it can be proven "mathematically" that the vehicle was speeding ? I'm not saying they should do this, but isn't the whole thing hypocritical ?
Quote: FaceI can confirm they read your speed while passing through the EZPass checkpoint. I never received a ticket or a threat of ticket, but I did receive a threat to revoke my EZPrivileges
Can you provide details?

Sure. The tolls I use are posted for 20mph. Knowing that some states have them on the open highway, I wondered how fast you could go and still have it be read. So every day, I increased my speed a few mph.
I think they sent the first warning once I exceeded 40mph. But since I did it every day, they sent an additional 1 or 2 before I received the first one. So I ended up getting 2 or 3 warnings in a week for excessive speed (max ~45mph). I stopped the experiment after that.
Quote: GWAEThey wouldn't need ez pass to give a ticket if this ever happened. You get a ticket when you enter the turnpike which has a time on it. You give the ticket at the other end. The computer could calculate your speeding ticket easily.
I would have a field day with that in court.

I prefer the Lingenfelter works. Anyone can go zoom on giggle gas. Hell, my Silverado will go 200 with a big enough shot.
I suspect it could be beaten. I'm sure the camera has no speed limit, but registering the info has to take a bit of time. Line 10 of them up nose to tail and bump draft through the line at 200. Bet it doesn't nab all 10.
If you happen to find yourself in the possession of 10 Hennesseys, want to test it out and need volunteer pilots, PM me for my contact info.

How exactly ? The definition of speed is distance divided by time. They know the distance and they know the time. Next case, please. If you were WAY over the speed limit, I think a good tactic would be to have "lost" the turnpike ticket that you got at the first booth. I was just saying that I don't like the SELECTIVE, hypocritical nature of who gets ticketed. You're speeding or you're not.
Ethics? I'm comfortable with it, in fact my easiest wins came when the cop got caught in his own lies. Nothing is hopeless. They never have you "dead to rights".
