Yes. That ad said 80s but it looked like 70s. I forgot all about the little silver shield chained onto the bottle.

Pierre Cardin was one of the most popular colognes for men in the late 70s. I probably shouldn't admit this, but I still have a bottle in my medicine chest from that era. Kinda for nostalgia. Haven't put any of that on in decades. Had a female friend about 30 years ago that knew a lot about cosmetology and make up and she said it didn't smell good anymore. I smelled it and couldn't tell the difference. Maybe I'll go home tonight and smell it again and report back.

Remember cuff links? I never threw any of mine away. Not that they're going to come back like bell bottoms. How about scarves for men? I think it was the character Alexander Mundy of the TV series It Takes A Thief that made scarves around the neck for men popular in 1969. He probably smelled good (trying to tie into the scent theme to get back on track).

Edit: Trip to my medicine chest report: I just smelled the Pierre Cardin I got as a gift from my then girlfriend on 1978. Smelled good to me. I'm going to ask a current kinda-used-to-be-in-limbo girlfriend what she thinks.

When my dad died we finally got to throw away a two-bottle set of Old Spice he had on the bathroom counter as long as I can remember. My mom probably gave it to him before I was born. I bet he used it at most once, to appease my mother. That would me one more time than I've ever used cologne.

Men's fashion is way outside my area of expertise but I think high-end shirts today often require cuff links. When I had to go out and buy some decent clothes when I worked for the Venetian some didn't have buttons for the cuffs, which I found out when I was getting dressed for my first day. Fortunately, some did have buttons. I later went out to buy cuff links somewhere. They are nice, made from old NYC subway tokens.

You missed something. Women have a great
sense of smell. If you smell good to them, it
gives a you a real boost when you meet them,
they will often overlook things they might otherwise
not like.

But you have to smell really good, not like you
bathed in Brut. It takes time to figure out what's
good for you. Sinatra used Lavanda because it's
not very strong and it's hard to put on too much.
It has a pleasant subtlety that lingers for a long
time.

If a woman is wearing White Shoulders, I'm putty
in her hands. It's a perfume put out by innovator
Elizabeth Arden in 1945. Great stuff.

The best (and most expensive) colognes smell different on different people, so I think it's worth trying stuff on, not just to see what it smells like, but what it smells like ON YOU. If you have a woman-friend who will go with you and smell the tests on your skin, so much the better.

Women will like a man they don't really
like in an office situation just because
he smells good. They say our sense
of smell has the greatest effect on
us of all our senses. Even though we get
90% of our info through sight, smell
triggers things in the brain that no
other sense does. It causes a chemical
reaction, which sight does not.

Try not to be bothered by a skunk odor,
or not get hungry walking by a baked
goods shop. Movie theater popcorn,
frying bacon in the morning, I wish
they could bottle it all.

You sure it wasn't Fred from Scooby-Doo?

Or was it Mr. Furley?

But, you're right. I bet neither of them smelled as good as Alexander Mundy. ;)

Excellent point - it is about the scent + body chemistry

This has been my favorite for the past year or so.

Got a sampler of Polo Red Intense off ebay along with Polo Black a few days ago. Will give the Red a try today.
