Playboy Mansion's secret tunnels

It might even be true.

Supposedly in 1977, four underground tunnels were built beneath the Playboy Mansion. The tunnels connected the Mansion to the homes of Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty, Kirk Douglas, and James Caan. The tunnels were closed in 1989. Hugh Hefner will neither confirm nor deny this rumor. Neither will the 4 actors.

Reasons it might be true:
1) People did crazy things in the 1970s. Building a tunnel is crazy.
2) These 4 actors were extremely wealthy.
3) These 4 actors were extremely horny.
4) The blueprints still exist. The Mansion had a big construction project in 1977.
5) It's fun to think about.

Reasons it's probably fiction:
1) Building a tunnel is crazy.
2) Too expensive.
3) Too noisy.
4) Too dangerous (earthquakes)
5) If longer than a mile, a car is more convenient.
6) Secrets like this don't stay secret. Too many people had to have known.
7) The story was reported by Playboy.com which means it's a publicity stunt.
8) April Fool's?

I don't believe it's true because it would have been prohibitively expensive and would have served no logical purpose. Plus, if the tunnels extended farther than the property next door you would have to have contractors willing to build under other people's homes. If it was the prohibition, and the tunnels only went to a property a house or two away, then maybe.

1977, it's not going to happen. The cost would be astronomical.

I recently read Hugh Hefner's biography, and don't remember any mention of these tunnels. The were stories of how the rich neighbors would be irate at Hef's swans and flamingos being a problem to them, and noise from parties (to be expected of course). Fascinating book.

Probably a Playboy April fools, but...

Guess it depends on how elaborate the tunnel system is. There are certainly tunnels down on the Mexico/Texas border.

Of course, the blueprints could be authentic and from the period of time, without the project ever being completed.
