Paco,

Where is the "Eye" in this photo? Is it just out of view at the bottom?

The "Eye" is about 2 miles along the river on the south side from the Tower Bridge in the foreground of the photo. So the "Eye" in this photo is in the back where it is a little fuzzy. Because the river curves to the left, the eye is just to the left of the Shard.

This photo is showing the "City of London" or the "Square Mile" immediately to your right. It was the original walled city that the Romans built. The courtyard on the right riverside is the "Tower of London" which was built by William the Conqueror after he took over the country in 1066.

The bridge in the foreground is the "Tower Bridge" which is a little more than a century old. The second bridge is the London Bridge, and the train station in the left of the photo is "London Bridge Station where the Shard Tower stands above.

Unlike in Italy, the historic London bridges including the famous medieval London Bridge were torn down several times. The current one is a very ordinary looking traffic bridge. The medieval bridge stood for 600 years and was the equivalent of the Ponte Vecchio in Florence. But it was not the subject of the song "London Bridge is Falling Down" which was an earlier bridge torn down by Viking invaders.

In the stopped construction category we have Fountainbleau Las Vegas at 735' and Revel Entertainment Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City at 709'. No one is taking bets on which one gets completed first.

There are actually six other residential towers over 700' that have also stopped construction in the Chicago, New York and Miami.

Read an article Icahn sold the building for 600 MM to a Manhattan real estate businessman, which Icahn bought 7 years ago for 120 MM. The buyer says the building is structurally intact.
