Thanks Funny take on the situation. Not funny if it happens to you. This should be an ongoing discussion here and talked about on gambling shows/websites and other venues.

My question, if you want to carry cash(not how to avoid carrying cash, I know how to do that) Is there a way to 100% protect yourself while carrying cash?

Looks like even a legitimate reason isn't enough.

Was recently in a scary situation with friends in a small town(2nd time in 6 months) while getting pulled over, this was the first thing on my mind. Luckily the cop just wanted to issue ticket an go. How sad is it, rejoicing over a ticket when your not doing anything wrong(other than ALLEGEDLY speeding)?

We are closer to a police state than a free state but the average American either doesn't see it or thinks it is "OK" if "for a good cause."

Of course not. The cops are after the item, they are not holding some contest to judge the legitimacy of the possession of it.

This has been going on for decades. Druggies were always arrested in their cars, once the cops started getting paid for the vehicle seizures. Lots of people speeding down the freeways but cops stop the out of staters for "transporting" money, drugs, whatever. Its like going after tastier fish. What's the use of posing next to a minnow when you can pose next to a swordfish. An ordinary speeder is no fun, get one with out of state plates.

We have zillions of untested rape kits in police or laboratory custody, we don't have zillions of DUI untested samples. DUI cases are profitable. Rape cases are a nuisance.

Just think what it would sound like "Dad, the cops seized the 2400 you gave me to go to California, can I have 12,000 for a lawyer's retainer to get it back again?"

Remember too that many times the owner of the property may be facing additional charges and if he tries to fight the seizure, those additional charges will be multiplying yet there is a time deadline for filing to get your property back.

Some drivers avoid certain states but its now almost universal that law enforcement is seizure motivated. One guy bought a car at a police auction and later got pulled over and the car was seized for having a secret compartment which although empty was clearly for the purpose of concealing drugs. Bingo.

It's scary and illiberal (which doesn't mean I view it as a conservative thing either, (grin)).

Ha. It made the national news in Canada last month. We're not supposed to go visit the U.S. anymore:

Every once in awhile the police state is just around the corner from being here.

There's no secret. Just know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.
