One great thing about this thread and the story is there is one less person I'd lend money to or take bets from.

You should never loan money to any gambler. Something small like $20 to eat you don't expect back max would be ok.

I have lent and borrowed several thousand dollars to/from friends who I trust, including gamblers. Never a single issue getting paid exactly at the agreed-upon time. They key is, only to people who I trust. I don't trust just anyone.

I guess if you don't know who to trust and who not to trust then this is good advice.

You are the one who is lying and cheating to get extra money, not him.

Every single thing that you are saying about him is true about you. However, it doesn't appear to be true of him. If we take everything that you have said at face value, he has done absolutely nothing wrong and you have stolen from him. He is a better man than you.

I don't even know where to begin with this one.

Ok, as I've said before if someone is lying and trying to cheat me out of money....I AM GOING TO TRY TO CRUSH HIM. It is not dollar for dollar. You might call it stealing and technically that's true. But I would never start it. I'm not that kind of person.

You don't know this person. You can't make a fair judgement of his character based upon your opinion of my character. Before you post, I ask that you do some critical thinking. I mean the person I'm describing does not even post on this site!

So you'll do it dollar for dollar? Why are you free rolling him? If he gets away with it, he wins. If you get him back, he breaks even. It gives terrible people motivation to try to steal from you.

Well, if he actually stole from me, I would give him the money I owed him (minus the amount he owed me) and I would also report the theft to the police. Not exactly a freeroll for him.

Even though I started the thread to let 66 know that practically everyone thought he was wrong, I will also say that Mission may be the one who is lucky he is not reading this thread!!

Hundreds of posts telling someone they are wrong and should pay the debt in two threads along with hundreds of posts telling us why some imaginary code allows him to not pay for bets that he made. It is so simple, yet so hard for him to get it...pay the man! If you would have paid the bookie directly for the bet, then you should pay the guy that carried the bet to the bookie.

If you stop defending being a welch, then people would stop bringing it up in other threads and the original two would just fade away. It isn't us, it is you. You are saying something that goes against what almost everyone here believes about paying bets due to some "code" you think justifies non-payment.

Someone calls you a name, you post "personal insult"...but you are only trying to call extra attention to what the Greens will find anyway in most every case...because I think you want to see how many people can get suspended now that you 100% understand that everyone thinks you are wrong.

It is a pretty honest question to ask if you paid the hooker since you didn't pay for bets you made. Both are things you can get away with not paying unless muscle becomes involved because they are not "legal" business transactions--you can't be sued for being a cheater.

Advocating your suspension for not being worthy of being a member due to admitted bet welching and even possibly trolling...well just what the heck did you expect?

Sorry, just found this thread and I'm confused. Someone lost $4400 to a bookie and is wondering if he should pay it back?

And his one argument is that he was told at one point there would be a loss rebate and never followed up on it? Oh, and the bookie is "not a nice guy".

I'm assuming I'm missing the actual reason he has for not wanting to pay the bookie back, can someone fill me in?

While I happen to agree with you, the real question could be this: does Lemieux genuinely feel the way he claims, in which case he could arguably be following his conscience, or is he just taking a shot?

A man is not necessarily "of low (or no) character" if he acts in conformity with his true beliefs, beliefs which are not shared by most others.

Think for example of the Mormons in the mid 1800's as an example of a group with unpopular beliefs who were murdered and persecuted for holding them, who later went on to bankroll and enable the growth of Las Vegas today.

It depends on who's value system you want to judge his beliefs against. If he really feels the way he claims (questionable), then in his mind he may not be a person of low character. But I can only judge against my values, and when doing so, his character is woefully lacking.

Well, if nothing else, the results of the poll should encourage him to reconsider his position.

But if the tone of the replies move away from being civil and reasonable (some are, and some aren't on that slope), won't that just put him on the defensive ?

Surely you can not get suspended for merely asking a valid question ? I mean my opinion of him is much lower than that. I guess I will go back immediately and delete that. Just to avoid any misunderstanding.

Damn, someone is at the door. I will be right back.

It's was 7th Day Adventists. I was at door door an hour. I came back to the computer SAVED but suspended. And now he has resigned. Before I could offer my sincerest apologies. This has been one hell of a year for me. And I do mean HELL !
Maybe I will meet him in person someday. And express exactly how sincere my apology is.
