Lemieux66:

You decided to punish a bookie for encouraging you to gamble?

That's like an obese overeater deciding to burn down the local all you can buffet because he cannot stop himself from gorging there regularly.

It is all YOUR fault, due to your obvious lack of self control.

Too late to "man up" and try to grow a "tough guy" backbone; that train left long ago, when you were betting heavily and merrily with the bookie.

Dude, you should change the name you use on this gambling-centered message board.

From now on you should forevermore be labeled "PARIAH."

You're making completely blind assumptions about me. I mean I kind of expect that since we only met once. But as I said, I have my own moral code. I will NEVER screw people who aren't trying to screw with me. I don't waver from that. I'm sure I cost myself opportunities, but I'm a pretty private person about gambling ventures(the thread about my adventures wasnt started by myself). I wouldn't even ask to do a partnership.

I'm just confused by all of you. If a person is trying to take advantage of you. Bribe his own cousin to try to keep me on the betting wagon. Promise kickbacks that never came? This is ok? It's not ok. Do you just allow yourself to just get totally owned by these people? Maybe it's a New York thing but I'm certainly nobody's victim.

You did your research on the games you bet. You picked up the phone. You made the wager. You lost. That's it. You need to pay. Why is this so difficult to understand? Who cares about some outside source (Your agent).. Again, I know you gladly took the money when you won. You want to play and got to pay. PERIOD!

Did you make the bets?

Were you under the influence of drugs or drink when you made the bets?

Did you know you were making bets?

People make bad decisions all the time--your bad decision doesn't make it okay to cheat someone else out of what you agreed to pay. All of the rest of it is just a pile of crap that you are trying to sell to us as lobster or something in order to make yourself look bad.

You look bad.

In the antique biz, the lowest form of life
are the 'be backs'. They see something they
want at a show and tell you they want you
to hold it for them, and they'll be back. Except
they never come back and you lost sales
because the item was set aside for them. You
only do this a couple times before you catch on.

In theory, that is why they have deposits. However, knowing myself, I would probably be a nice guy and let them hold stuff on faith too. However, with me it would take being stood up about a dozen times before I toughened up and made a firm deposit policy for people I don't know.

They won't do deposits because what they want
to do is shop the whole show and if they find a
cheaper one, they'll buy it. Antique buyers are
the original cheapskates. They think you paid
nothing for the item, so they want it for almost
nothing.

PS. I never welched on a bet. Ask the Wizard or Axel.

PSS. I might welch on this bet if you resell it to someone else.

PSSS. I might welch if you take a kickback from my action.

If he promised you the kickbacks (note that you are changing your story -- before you were saying that he gave other people kickbacks and didn't tell you about them) then just subtract the amount that he owes you from the debt.

The problem is that you are just making excuses to not pay your debt. No one believes any of this morality BS. You just see an opportunity to rip someone off and you are doing it. All the rest of it is just rationalization.

Welching is not paying a gambling debt without reason.

OP is not Welching on a bet which many of you don't seem to understand regardless of how many different ways op tries to explain to you. He's retaliating against someone who stole anywhere from $500-$1000 in total kickbacks, conspired with his cousin who happens to be OPS friend to keep him betting, refused to close the betting accounts multiple times.

OP simply took a stand. There's consequences to being a theiving, lying sack of shit and unlike most of you who would still pay after being manipulated, OP just served it right back to him. How does everyone not see that you're just defending the bad guy in all this?

So "backbone" is what is needed to welch on bets?

Was the OP promised kickbacks?

No--he never says that they were promised to him. Can he prove that the bookie gave them to the runner for him to receive? Not from what he has told us so far, but his story may change again.

Did the OP knowingly make bets after he asked for his account to be closed?

If the OP didn't make the bet, he doesn't owe the money. While casinos have self-exclusion for those who need it, bookies don't offer the same service. You have to say "NO MORE BETS" every time you are asked.

It isn't relevant that he thinks badly of the person he asked to carry his bets as related to whether or not he owes him. The most you can give him is that he should pay less than the full amount if he can prove (not just say) that rebates intended for him were kept by the low life scum running the bets.

Does the OP think that the world of bookies and hookers doesn't have a few bad people in it?

It is a gambling debt. He gambled and lost. He is not paying a gambling debt and there is no legitimate reason to not pay it.

Again, if he knows the bookie gave a kickback meant for him to the runner and the runner kept it as extra juice, there is some room on that issue...but he has to have proof of that happening.

He made the bets, he owes them. Casinos encourage us to bet extra every time by giving us comps, food, rooms, drinks, etc.--can we just welch on those now, too, given this "code"?

I do not believe that anyone here is anything like this person.

"Slick" was someone that I knew who enjoyed cheating people.

If he cheated someone out of their life savings and ruined their lives and those of their children, that was their problem.

Not his.

He was tough, strong, carried a gun and he feared no one.

Slick had two businesses. He used one of them to cook the books of the other which was losing money.

He sold that one to a man who could not pay the note and quickly lost the business back to Slick.

Slick even bragged about this stunt.

One day, the guy's wife telephoned Slick in tears.

She accused him of cheating her and her husband out of their money and demanded return of their down payment.

Slick hung up on her, but not before getting in a few insults.

He bragged about this too.

People warned Slick that he crossed the line by dishonoring the guy's wife.

He laughed it off.

Two weeks later, Slick was alone inside that same business when someone came in and escorted him to the rear of the building where he pumped two bullets into the back of Slick's head.

The killer was never found.

I was a big fan of Slick in the WWF back in the day. Jive Soul Bro.

Anyway, I am DONE WITH THIS THREAD.
10 eyes for an eye. 10 teeth for a tooth. 10 bucks for a buck?! Hit the bad guys where it hurts the most: the face and the wallet.

There's a difference. He didn't try to use your sports betting addiction against you. Of course you pay back the child molester.

Wow.
Lemiwelch4400 was in great standing last time I was on this site, lol.
Having anger and rage issues myself, I could almost try to understand where Lemieux was coming from. Until this comment.
Shame on you and anyone else who said they would pay pediophiles back. I would stab them in the throat and sodomize them before they bled out. Then took the wallet from the pants around their cold dead ankles.
Why are you making bets with child molesters anyway? Way to many people were happy to pay back molesters for my comfort.

Just an observation when Lemmy did it, it's welshing but if Gary Loveman does it, it's renegotiating or structuring. Sometimes it's just a passive aggressive move being made to do it.
I am a robot.
