Never heard of him.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

He had a huge body of work mid-century. The newscasts will do a recap, but he was hugely talented with a broad range. He also had a very full and long life, so Well Done and RIP.

should have gotten an oscar for Tuco

I think John McClane used the same line in "Die Hard." An homage to a great movie, perhaps?

I disagree. I am certain he was The Ugly, and Angel Eyes (Lee Van Cleef) was The Bad.

I'll go you one better. I had Chinese food in 2 takeout cartons in the lunch fridge, and took them out to eat. They were EMPTY! Who has the nerve to steal food from inside their packaging and puts the empty packages BACK??? I was already having a crap day, and finally got a break, and that's what there was, with no opportunity to get more food (we were in lockdown). Grrrrrrr.......never found the culprit.

It was really Eli Wallach, not Clint Eastwood or Lee Van Cleef that made The Good, The Bad & The Ugly so great. Tuco is my favorite movie character of all time. For those of you who mistakenly thought Lee Van Cleef was the Ugly, don't feel bad. Even the bombastic Bill O'Reilly thought so. In the opening scene, when Tuco crashes out of the barber shop window, the frame freezes and it clearly says across the top of the screen "The Ugly." The soundtrack, written by Ennio Morricone, is also my favorite of all time.

Wallach was also great in The Misfits. But I think that for generations to come kids are going to get a big kick out of Tuco.

Wow. That's terrible! I've heard some bad office kitchen scenarios, but that takes the cake.

Thanks Mickey. I was 26 when that movie came out 48 years ago. Still a great primer about religion. Tuco had it right.

I think that's a great idea. I might just do the same. The one I have is boring.

I did have a lot of fun with the Austin Powers ringtones app a couple phones ago, though...might have to find that one again. Yeah, baybee!

I never did understand any of those spaghetti westerns.

I remember the New Yorker review of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly was "I must have missed part one".

I remember the weird music. For a while everyone in NYC was going around wearing a thin Mexican serape and chewing on thin cigars in some sort Clint Eastwood fixation theme.

For myself, Eli Wallach will always be Calvera, the bandit chieftan in the classic western "The Magnificent Seven." He was not totally evil, he was caring and thoughtful toward his men, treated his foes with a sense of chivalry, and had a belief in God and religion.

AND THIS : Calvera is such a miscreant that he regrets leaving the villagers whose food he keeps stealing enough money to hire their heroic posse. “Sooner or later,” he mutters, “you must answer for every good deed.”
