I dont even remember those days. I wondered how some comments get hundreds of likes and what not. If I had all the time in eternity, I'd figure it out. My thought was to copy exactly every top comment, then go back to see how they compared. Pretty much know already it wouldn't work because the comments aren't really organized clearly and logically, some algorithm is used.Quote: FleaStiffOh, for the good old days when Youtube comments were fewer and always relevant to the video they were posted to and not used as some springboard for endless discussions.

Yes they did. I remember paying like 4.95 a year for unlimited. At some point they stopped charging. Now I use that email as my junk mail for promos and online sign ups. I check it about once every other week. I just checked it now and had 459 new emails.
Thanks for reminding me... I think I'll go delete some of teh junk now.
Quote: lilredroosterThat is so true. If you fly to Vegas and get robbed and the thief also gets your ID such as your drivers license, and you don't have a backup such as a passport, you're really SOL. You're not getting on a plane. Good luck getting your state to FedEx you a copy. It's a potential nightmare.
Fortunately, this is not true. Having your state ID/passport stolen (or lost) while visiting Vegas does not mean you will be denied access to your flight by the TSA.

I didn't know that. Quite interesting.
On another note, it's somewhat interesting to see what is permitted to carry-on vs baggage-checking for a flight. Most is obvious, but some stuff isn't obvious and kinda scary.

Good info. I didn't know that. But a caveat. From your link:
"In the event you arrive at the airport without valid identification, because it is lost or at home, you may still be allowed to fly. The TSA officer may ask you to complete a form to include your name and current address, and may ask additional questions to confirm your identity. If your identity is confirmed, you will be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint. You may be subject to additional screening. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO FLY IF YOUR IDENTITY CANNOT BE CONFIRMED."
even if you are confirmed considering it is the U.S. Government it is likely to be a long, tiring process and probable that you will miss your flight. also, if you do not already have your boarding pass or do not have the necessary info to print one out at the self serve kiosk the airline personnel at the ticket counter will not give you your boarding pass without a valid ID. also, if you want to check bags and you are unable to use the self serve kiosk to print out your baggage claim you will most likely be required to present ID to check your bags. not having a passport and trying to fly internationally is going to be a horrible process and your attempt will most likely be unsuccessful.

You seem to be "doubling down" with more inaccurate information in your second paragraph. In an effort to find some agreement...
Having your personal items stolen or lost will be a very stressful situation. It will require time and effort to resolve all the issues that will arise. It is a very good idea (as you and others have mentioned) to protect yourself and prepare for these situations.
Anyone wonder what that might do to the odds on their next game? Or can he afford such losses?
Hard to say what he can afford, but that's a lot of money to lose in two hours. Maybe a martingale in play. Losing definitely devastates a person, would make sense to have trouble concentrating the next day. They're multimillionaires though, don't know how rich they are but half a million has to sting like losing a few paychecks.Quote: FleaStiffTabloids reporting Manchester United star just dropped 500k at roulette in two hours.

Didn't see the story myself and wouldn't care to, but maybe the guy bought in smaller, built it up, then lost it all. That wouldn't make much of a difference to state of mind.
"Professor Bessembinder found that a mere 4 percent of the stocks in the entire market — headed by Exxon Mobil and followed by Apple, General Electric, Microsoft and IBM — accounted for all of the net market returns from 1926 through 2015. By contrast, the most common single result for an individual stock over that period was a return of nearly negative 100 percent — almost a total loss. A very small percentage of winning stocks have done splendidly, but when gains and losses are tallied up over their lifetimes, most stocks haven’t earned any money at all. What’s more, 58 percent of individual stocks since 1926 have failed to outperform one-month Treasury bills over their lifetimes, he found. That is a low bar, given the piddling returns on one-month Treasury bills, which now yield less than 1 percent."

Quote: onenickelmiracleWhat's the movie with the Greek owned casino cruises out of Florida and a congressman? That's not the one with Christian Bale and Jennifer Lawrence....
They made a movie about that? I had no idea, but I'd really like to see it. I was aware of it as it was happening, but I've never known the full story. I gave them a fair amount of business before they abruptly closed up shop and threw several friends out of work.
That Palm Beach "boat" was half owned by the Gambino Family. Gambino representatives walked in and announced that they were half owners. They didn't pay anything though.
The M boat in Fort Myers sailed to South Carolina and never returned because it was mainly slots and local competion kept the crowds down. I was disappointed. Boat was made famous in "Lay The Favorite" as the author's father having an "office", the high stakes blackjack table on board The Big M Casino Boat.
The much larger, full casino boat out of Cocoa Beach (Port Canaveral) was fun, but its a trek for me and a virtually impossible trek for my often unfaithful steed, my Chevy Venture.

I think the reference was to the SunCruz fleet. They had 6-7 boats at various Florida ports (Port Canaveral, Daytona Beach, Jax, Palm Beach for 4 of them), were owned by a Greek family named Boulis.
He was murdered by a contract killer after being forced to sell his fleet (under maritime law disallowing non-citizens from owning boats) to someone; he sold to Jack Abramoff and the Mob. They welched, he complained and tried to get his boats back, they killed him.
This story says the movie made about it was "Casino Jack", which I haven't seen. The story also gives a lot of really interesting details.
Edit: This follow-up lists the players and provides more info about each than the first story, including a crime scene photo.
Anyways, someone from the millitary just called and said they found it and she can pick it up. They called her cell phone which is not listed and was not in the wristlet at all. Good thing we are not on the wanted list because it was apprantly pretty easy to track her down.
....
I have a question about the charts on this page:
/games/double-exposure/
(looks like the editor is not allowing the full URL - this is from wizardofoddsDOTcom)
The directions say "The following tables show the basic strategy for double exposure when the dealer stands on soft 17. To use the strategy, look up the player hand along the top row and the dealer hand along the left column."
Shouldn't the dealer hand be along the row and the player 's hand on the column to the left? In other words, reversed from the directions? Or am I misinterpreting the directions? Or am I not understanding "row" and "column" definitions?
I have been following the chart, but reversing it, and it works pretty good!
If the air show was at Nellis they may have had a 'stingray' working at the entranceway: a fake cell tower that records all cell phone handshaking signals. Or since many cell phones operate apps in the background that use BLE Blue Tooth Low Engergy the cell phone can be recorded by any blue tooth tracker device.Quote: GWAEThey called her cell phone which is not listed

I forgot about SunCruz. At one new-dealers orientation meeting a guy stood up and asked about a Toke Committee. Management's response was sure and swift: "You are fired!".

It was not Nellis, it was at Pittsburgh air force base.

I went to microwave the beans the other day. I remember thinking, I'm pretty sure the can says 1 minute and 30 seconds....but it had been a week or so since I cooked them, so I'll double check the can. I look at it, it says 2 minutes. Huh....that sorta confused me, as I was damn near certain last time I cooked 'em for 1 minute 30 seconds. Okay, whatever, no big deal.
I'm waiting for the beans to cook, and I think to myself, NO, there's absolutely no way it's 2 minutes.....I'm ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN it was 1 min 30 seconds. Let me make sure I'm not going crazy.....so I'm about to pull the can out of the trashcan, but wait -- I have another can of the same product in the cupboard. I check the can and what do ya know -- it says 1 minute and 30 seconds.
I'm like huh, okay weird. I could'a sworn the can earlier said 2 minutes....meh I'm tired, who cares. But -- OH NO! I don't believe in coincidences, or something like that. Maybe I bought two different types of beans? Hmm, I take the can out of the trashcan.....same product, same size, weight, etc etc. But that one says TWO MINUTES.
So yeah, it's been a stressful couple days.
Oh no, this won't do at all. RS must have his food very hot.

Probably depends if you take them out of the can. Try putting the whole can in the microwave unopened and see how it works out.

They're good, I agree. They're almost like chili. Perhaps I'll get some cheddar cheese for it.
Quote: DRichProbably depends if you take them out of the can. Try putting the whole can in the microwave unopened and see how it works out.
Good thinkin'. I should probably cook it for longer too then, right? Because in a can it'll take longer. Tonight I'll pop the can in the microwave, set it to 20 minutes, which will be just enough time for me to drive to the store and get cheese.
Speaking of cheese, @AxelWolf, what is the proper type of cheese to put on chili?
After doing some research (I got a hold of both cans), they are both the same weight and size. But they differ in calories, fat, saturated fat, they both have the same protein amount, but one has 410mg of potassium and the other has no mention of potassium. I've been befuddled by a can of beans. :(
Shredded cheddar would be the most popular and the best fit(I would prefer sharp cheddar on chili) Pepperjack would be a tasty good choice as well. I don't think there's a wrong answer unless you start to get into some exotic cheese. I would also avoid American cheese and use a little sour cream instead.Quote: RS+1

When it comes to cheese there are only two potentially correct answers. Clearly they are Cheez-Whiz and Easy Cheese.
It sounds to me like someone is counterfeiting cans of beans and that you got one of them and one real can. By any chance are the beans jumping around in the bowl? If not, try planting some in your back yard and see if a giant bean stalk grows.
