That was a very good job your dad had.
I don't know the percentile, but i would guess he would have been in the top 5-7% of wage earners.

Yeah, you're right about that. He was the top - earning salesman nationwide in a Fortune 100 company most of those years. I would guess top 15% or so, though.

His commission was only .25-.50% per contract, but the contracts were multi-year worth millions each, so while he earned it, he was definitely making it, too.

It sucks you haven't gotten a raise but no one is forcing you to stay there.

I know. My job is super-duper easy and laid-back, though, so I shouldn't be complaining. Also, the 401k benefits here are awesome. And I actually get some decent paid vacation time which I know a lot of people don't (at least in America).

The only issue if I want a new job is I'd have to go back to school or something to learn a new trade. There are almost no jobs where I live that utilize my current skill set and training.

This could easily turn into a super-long post so I'll stop there.

Pah. Let 'er rip, it feels good to get it out =)

Count me as a multi-jobber. I've got three, neither of which include the "I'm a dad" or the race car, both of which are the REAL jobs lol. But, man... you almost have to. Without it,... ah hell. I ain't even going there. I don't want to remember what that was like.

You are nearly forced into a pre-arranged life. You almost HAVE to buy on credit, almost HAVE to have a life partner, even if you're only interested in the basics. And I dunno about you, but I don't accept that. I should be neither slave to a wage or bound to another, but GOD DAMN it's a tough go on your own. Despite three jobs, one of which being a federal with a relatively choice benefits package, I only manage thanks to "family fortune", the fact that I live rent and mortgage free. If not for that, I'd be a three jobber just to survive. And I ain't even got no debt!

We've got and are getting f#$%ed over and out, which is why I'm interested in this social-gender weirdness going on now. If these otherkins gain traction, I'm changing my status to "squirrel" and living in the woods wherever the hell I want.

Not the exact revolution I was looking for, but any port in a storm, ya know?

I don't know anything about your lifestyle Face but with no mortgage or rent,I would think u could survive on your federal job.
If you have kids or child support i can understand.
Unless you have a new car,the max cable package, multiple cars, eat out all the time etc...
But from your posts you don't seem like that.

Wait a minute... you have three jobs, one of which is federal with great benefits, no mortgage or rent, no debt, a "family fortune," and yet you're still barely able to manage? Something doesn't add up here...

Now add in student loans as a lifetime millstone, jobs that pay minimum wage in the whole town, no hope of home ownership or any hope on the horizon.. and you know why opiods are booming.

actually I lay this at the feet of the drug industry

for years kids, sons/daughters/grandkids would steal drugs from those who needed them and the thing that was going around was, well, "they still need their pain meds", leading to constant supply no matter what. They blamed the doctors but pressure was put on these docs to continue to supply the meds. Some version of this is still going on.

I'm saying that ultimately the pressure to keep the supply going was coming from the drug companies. Now that the death rate is unacceptable, there's a lot of finger-pointing.

He talks about a race car. How much time and money does that suck down?
A friend of mine loved to fish. At 16, he owned a small boat before he owned a car. By 20 he had a much bigger boat. By 25, he owned a thirty foot boat that he worked a second job to afford. According to him, his marriage was in turmoil because he spent so much money and time on the boat. One night, he had a huge fight when his wife suggested they were in such deep trouble they couldn't afford the boat. He stormed out and spend the night getting drunk on the boat.
Went home the next day, apologized and agreed to sell the boat. What he thought of as a hobby and a diversion was a millstone. He kept the second job but cut back his hours and in a few years they bought a house. That was almost thirty years ago. today, he is fairly happily married, takes his kids out on charter boats to fish and takes a fishing trip with our friends once or twice a year.

Gee Mister Face, if you have a life partner for the "basics" alone, no wonder you are unhappy.

Which means you are focusing on SUPPLY channels, not DEMAND.
Do you blame the County Commissioners who paved that almost mile long stretch of road in the middle of nowhere for building a runway with tax funds?
Do you blame the drug treatment centers in palm beach county that bill ten grand a week for treating drug addicts they recruit in New England and then dump in Florida when their insurance runs out?
