Correct. The equipment isn't used for anything beyond professional uses though. That's actually something I'm incredibly strict on when it comes to this room.
Quote: jjjooogggHow often you have to surveil a card counter?
We get reports of an alleged or suspected counter every ~7-10 days. I love getting those calls, it's really fun to identify if someone is counting, and how skilled they are.
Am I standing out by not using a card?
Quote: jjjooogggWhen the floor pushes a button or calls?
Am I standing out by not using a card?
Call usually. Initial detection is usually from either the table staff, or from one of our operators. Cards are irrelevant to us, we don't have involvement in the tracking of comps and such. Having a spread, and knowing how to beat the game makes you stand out more than whether or not you're using a card.
This is for the Canadian places I work though, not Vegas.
Seven to ten hours, maybe.
Quote: MrVI suspect that in Las Vegas, surveillance probably gets a call about a suspected card counter more frequently than every seven to ten days.

Some stores, perhaps every 7-10 minutes!

Andy got a new job working for a large Manhattan bank in the 1990's.
The bank had a massive underground vault where gold was stored in segregated smaller vaults that were assigned to different countries.
When an international trade was made, the ingots would be physically moved from one vault to the other, and the gold was constantly inventoried.
The owners required this process to be done swiftly.
As Andy described it, inventory was his specialty.
While he was trying to find a way to speed this process, Andy conducted his own inventory of all the gold in the vaults, and found a discrepancy. He traced the records to confirm it.
He immediately reported to his supervisor, "There is no record for who owns $18 million of the gold in the inventory." "We don't know who owns it, and the error goes back twenty-five years."
With all the thousands of transfers between the vaults over the years, any number of errors could have occurred. There could have been dozens of owners of the misplaced gold.
They both repeated the inventory Andy's way and confirmed the finding.
The VP's were notified and they also confirmed the finding.
"We'll take it from here"
The following week, Andy and his supervisor were transferred to two separate branches.
A few weeks later, they were let go.
"Job discontinued"
He never found out what happened to the gold.

Your request is noted.
You're posting some questionable things (which you probably know, or you wouldn't have posted this). Two examples, somewhat intertwined; you're taking a mild shot at someone and appending some form of "joke, not insult" at least a half-dozen times in the last couple of weeks. And/or you're making a judgement on another member, calling them "bad" or some other language that extends your comment from the content of their post to a comment about them. If pushed, I would say this is passive aggressive activity, and some of it is trolling.
However, much of what you say and do has been put into context by a couple of your posts about yourself and your life the last few years, which if true (and they seemed sincere), backed you away from the razor's edge (at least for me) as to intent. It would be appreciated if you dropped the judgement and sideways slams, though, which would justify my not taking action on the "iffy" posts, as then there wouldn't be a question. If your intent is to find that "bannable" edge and stay just inside it for your amusement, you're toes-over it lately, as above.
So, I guess if you want a warning, this is the only one you should expect.

I watched a few videos on YouTube the other night on deep web weird sh**.
The twenty was counterfeit, which she had gotten in change from another store. We'll call the cops tomorrow, but something to consider. It had really good color, but after it was pointed out, it was obvious there was no water mark. It seems there is a lot of that going on around here.
Something to think about when you are getting change. The store said most of the fakes are 5's, 10's, and twenty's?

I watched this. IDK if it is real. But it makes sense that hackers could rule the world without us knowing.

Did they make her exchange it for a new one? or where they just showing it to her. Seems weird that they would know which bill was hers, unless it was caught right when she left or something.
The cops just left.Quote: GWAEDid they make her exchange it for a new one? or where they just showing it to her. Seems weird that they would know which bill was hers, unless it was caught right when she left or something.
The store checks most bills with the pen or whatever they use. My wife is frequent enough that it just went in the till and she left. I don't know who caught it at the store, but they know her and as I said gave it back to her last night in exchange for a real 20.
The cop just left here and he thought it was close enough that we should take it to our bank and have them determine for sure, so it is close, but. When compared to another twenty you can see that the mag strip is not in it, and no water mark. The cops said it is the best one he has seen. Most calls he gets he said the fakes almost look like monopoly money. : )
I almost wanted to keep it for a souvenir but even that is a serious crime. I met a guy once who did time for forgery, he kept a souvenir of his work, but printed on one side only so it wouldn't be illegal. These new printers if the right cloth/paper is used look good.
I wanted to share, I know I will look closer at any change I get now, especially over the holidays. People are willing to risk going to prison for passing phony one dollar bills.
I have heard that as well, but I don't think this one was that quality.Quote: rxwineMaybe it's from N. Korea. They're said to do some of the best fakes.
This looked like it had wear on it from being passed around and had a fold in it. Maybe the trick where they bleach out a one to get the proper paper and reprint a twenty on it?
When it was mixed with other change, [which the clerk handed my wife] you know how they do instead of counting it back properly, the color was so close it didn't stick out from the rest. So whoever it is has the color close. The paper felt just like money, so it's a decent forgery product. I'm sure if it is that good, there are many more out there, it isn't a one and done project.

I wonder what they printed that pissed him off enough to buy the paper. Maybe the series on the computer hacking exposed too much internal info.
I hope he's completely unsuccessful, if his purpose is to have editorial control.

After looking at it well enough with good light behind, I could see there was no hologram or water mark, but handed to anyone with a five and some ones, it would pass readily.Quote: GWAEMaybe the 20 is real. I have heard that people would remove the strip from 20s and put them in fakes to make them look better and pass through change machine like machines.
But it would be funny if the cop brings it back and said it was real. : )

What happens if the cop finds that it is indeed fake? Hopefully it is just chocked up to bad luck and they confiscate it and it doesn't become an issue for you.
That is a consideration. What if the store that gave it back had already called the police?Quote: GWAEWhat happens if the cop finds that it is indeed fake? Hopefully it is just chocked up to bad luck and they confiscate it and it doesn't become an issue for you.
IDK, I'm going with honesty, and see how it works? No guarantee, but I don't have a good enough memory to be much of a liar. We could just have remained mum, but I wonder. Maybe it's the store passing them? Like trying to get rid of a hot potato.

Quote:Possessing or issuing counterfeit currency is a misdemeanor offense carrying a maximum three (3) year jail sentence. I recently defended an individual in Harford County District Court who was charged with passing a fake $20.00 bill to a Starbucks' cashier at the now closed Maryland House. Both a Maryland State Trooper and Secret Service agent testified against my client. The case turned on whether my client knew or had reason to know that he had a fake bill in his possession and knowingly tried to obtain goods and services. Federal Reserve Notes have various security features that the Treasury uses to foil counterfeiters, including embedded fibers, microprinting, color shifting metallic flecks and embedded watermarks. Thus, the appearance of the fake currency and circumstances under which my client obtained his $20.00 were of great importance at trial - one that ultimately led to his acquittal. You would be well served to obtain the services of a qualified defense attorney who is familiar with cases of this nature, can examine the currency in question, and assist you in preparing a proper defense.

Quote: mipletI once had a customer try paying with a counterfeit fifty. It was a bleached five, so it had a strip and watermark. But the strip had "five" instead of "50". As soon as he realized I knew it was a counterfeit he grabbed it and took off.
Depending on how hard it is to generate good counterfeit, it makes more sense to me to pass 20's. 50's and 100's get a lot more scrutiny, and a lot of smaller stores won't even accept them.
