Move to Laughlin, NV?
From the above thread, some member suggests the OP to do RV instead of buying a home.
I wonder whether it is a good idea for Las Vegas. I am thinking of this myself.

RVs run the range of spartan to palaces. The palaces are six figures.

What is your goal with one? Do you plan to live in LV long, medium, or short term? Would you buy or rent otherwise?

My guess is if you want more privacy it is not the worst option, just remember the water and septic do not fill and empty themselves. If you plan to stay 18 months or more I would consider a regular place.

Some comments in addition to AZD...

You have versatility. Don't like the view? Move. Wanna be closer/further from something? Move. That can be handy.
But these things are boats. You'll likely need to tow a travel car, unless you wanna try and cram that thing into drive thrus, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. That's an added expense for car, maintenance, insurance, etc.
They are also not economical. Our WarWagon gets but 8mpg, and I wouldn't consider it big enough to live in for an extended period of time.
I'm not too familiar with power, but in LV you are gonna die without AC. They all have inverters which you can run to power appliances, but the batteries need to be powered/recharged by the engine. A diesel can idle almost in perpetuity, but it's still gonna cost ya.
Unless you're baller status, you will save money rather than buying a house. You'll also still have an RV if you change your mind down the road. But unlike a house, it will depreciate like mad. It's not much of a problem if you buy used and buy smart, but get one at high cost and you'll lose it all.

I'll post again if I think of more...

In Malibu and Palm Springs, CA extreme upscale mobile home parks are making a comeback. Million dollar pads. Top notch Class A only. Restrictions on add-ons. ETC.

In Vegas, some people make improvements to the trailer parks but find the parks are being closed anyway.

I know of one woman who constantly travels, all she owns fits in her car and her tiny little Teardrop Trailer. Its a lifestyle that she knows and loves, its not a new "experiment". She has her camera, her dogs and the open road.

Heck, when Laughlin casinos first opened, they had RV parks and two dollar movies. Sams Town in Vegas still has an RV park.

So if you are really considering it, try it out first.

About what a late 60s Rivera gets!

I thought of some more so let me add back.

As Face mentioned, they have inverters. Know how much inverter you need before you buy, most have options. Besides the A/C you will need to run a fridge, stove, and water heater as "musts." TV, Internet, and other "near-musts" may add up.

Do A LOT of research before you buy. RV salesmen do not exactly have a great reputation as a group, stereotype or not if you buy the wrong thing it is 10Xs as bad as buying the wrong car. Visit an RV Show for sure, even if you decide to buy used, which is the only way I would buy.

When you do buy used, do be aware that some RVs had a hard life. Watch Season 1 of "Breaking Bad" to get an idea of some red flags............

Same as a car, shop for financing before you go. Get pre-approved. When you are ready to get final approval of the one you want, have your salesman by the phone when you call it in. RV loans are more complex than car loans (I've done both.) They will have a dozen questions about how it is equipped, and unless you know RVs most will not make sense to you.

Slide-outs are nice, but they jack the price up fast.

More as we think of it.

WAIT A MINUTE! are you guys saying you don't want to count cards and play craps out of your car in Vegas or Laughlin? bunch of pussycats;) well if you be comfortable and wast money.

I think it might depend on your age and what your trying to do. RV parks don't impress the ladies much. if you're older and you don't care about the depreciating value, I would go for it and buy a USED one. If you're younger I would invest in a condo or a house. I have bought and sold a few used RVs, used them for a few years and got back my full investment or more when I sold them. It depends what time of the year you sell them and what the normal rent is like in the area you sell it.

If you do get a RV i suggest a scooter or a Harley for transportation If you plan on traveling (Biker weekends in Laughlin at the camp ground = good times) .

I don't know the policy's on buying RVs. I would try my best to test the one you are buying for a week or so first. Looks can be deceiving, you think somethings adequate from the way it looks and quickly find out its not. don't forget about registration costs and and insurance on the RV.

I would rent a smaller one, then you plan on getting first if you can deal with that then and upgraded one should be even better.

As far as emptying and filling tanks. You don't have to do all that, if you don't want to, RV parks have all the hook ups including direct sewage and running water.(there is always quick release over a bridge) You only use that stuff when traveling to places and from places or if your there for a very short period of time. Most Parks have internet ,cable, laundry showers. Some RV parks are very nice with clubhouses, workout centers etc etc. I say rent one first for a few weeks. If you do buy one and want to park it permanently amusing you can find a place it think its 250 to 400 a month. everything induced
♪♪Now you swear and kick and beg us That you're not a gamblin' man Then you find you're back in Vegas With a handle in your hand♪♪ Your black cards can make you money So you hide them when you're able In the land of casinos and money You must put them on the table♪♪ You go back Jack do it again roulette wheels turinin' 'round and 'round♪♪ You go back Jack do it again♪♪

I will obviously defer to AZD for the important financial info, as my RV experience comes from one which was bought for $100 (and more than $100 was found inside during the clean out, making it less than (more than?) free).

And while I can't think of any RV tidbits at the moment, I will remind you of pop-ups and 5th wheels.

These also have a gargantuan amount of configurations. You can get one that's little more than a convenient tent, all the way up super luxurious portable condos with multi level arrangements. I suppose all the little niggles and details with these would be similar to that of an RV (how big, what accessories, cost, etc), but it's adds another level of choice to fit your needs. With a 5th wheel, you'll need not tow an extra car or scooter, as you can just unhook the truck and go. Of course, hooking and unhooking is an added level of preparation. Also, some don't like RVs because of their enormous size and blind spots. Then again, some could easier understand quantum physics than back up a trailer.

You, sir, have a lot of thoughtful research to do.

I own an RV so here are my 2 cents.

I own a popup that I tow with my SUV. I tend to do a lot of multi day music festivals and like to be comfortable.
Even though all I have is a popup, is has everything I need to be comfortable if I get an electric and water hookup which are common at campgrounds.
Its like having a small apartment at a music festival.
I have AC system on the RV roof to keep cool. I have heat using my propane tank.
I have a 20 gallon water tank and a 6 gallon hot water tank. Water is heated due to propane.
I have a hot water shower set up in my popup camper.
3 stove burners and a grill on the side of the camper.
3 way fridge, works on either propane, AC or battery.
toilet with a black water tank

If I don't get the electric hookup, the only thing I cant run is AC.
Still comfortable if not brutally hot outside. I heat with propane and RV battery runs the fan.
I can shower, propane heats water, rv battery runs the water pump.
Music festivals I go to tend to be in cool weather so I don't need AC so generally don't get a hookup. This known as boondocking and I am still super comfortable.

I have had big rig guys look at my popup and ask me what I have inside and are surprised how comfortable I am. They get a mile or 2 to the gallon, pulling my popup , my mile to the gallon only drops about 10 to 20 percent.

Thanks for all the info.
what about a delivery van with 6' height. I convert it into a camper with a bed, shower, table and a sink. that is what I need.

You mean you don't have to empty it yourself?

Because of this thread, I ended up watching the entire 14 minute how-to emptying the "black tank" of an RV (below). I just couldn't stop watching. I think I was waiting to see if something horrible was going to happen.

I have thought about moving to Laughlin (decided no) and also getting a RV. Still maybe.

That's all pretty complicated. Mine is simple, 2 to 3 gallon cassette black tank, just below the potty, that I simply remove and empty. It always lasts a music festival. Its so nice to have a clean bathroom at a music festival. Come home and empty the cassette black tank in the toilet.
