How was the Sunday weigh in?

Thanks for asking.. It was really good. Current weight is at 291.8. We had a date day/night planned for Sunday that was planned for about a month now. We went out to a movie and went to dinner. I did have pop corn at the movie and I had part of an appetizer but to offset this we walked around the mall that the movie theater is in for an hour.

Ankle tendinitis from hitting the weights too hard (specifically squats with the wrong shoes), which I was doing to rehab my ACL knee *shaking my head*. I'm becoming permanently injured.

So, I'm sans exercise for a while (2 weeks minimum counting from last Thursday), in a walking boot. Hurt like crazy at first, but it's getting better now. Doc says I can still ride my bike, except that it's rough walking up and down stairs not carrying anything, let alone my bike (have to carry bike down 1/2 flight of stairs to get to street level from our apartment).

Not to be outdone, fiance sprained her groin skiing today. We are gimpy together.

I have been following my fitbit like crazy and I think it was a great investment. The first week I just did my normal thing with no extra exercise at all. I was shocked to see that on a normal day I was only walking 2500 steps. My job is basically a sit down job. I am sure this has been a major factor in my weight gain. The next week which was last week I had a goal of 4000 steps. I made sure I had 4000 steps each day which was pretty easy. This week I am going to have a goal of 5000. Each week I will add 1000 steps to the daily goal until I get to 11000 steps a day.

This last week I lost a little but I feel that I did bad. I had fast food 1 day and we went to a restaurant 2 times. We had a free voucher for the casino and we also had $25 off at Bravos so I didn't want those to go to waste. I did eat a healthy meal at Bravo and I did not get pop at either place. I did have 1 16oz of pop this week. When I did my weigh in on Sunday morning the scale reflected a small weight loss so overall I feel the week was successful.

Only read the spoiler if you want TMI about my bowels.
Since the start of my weight loss I have been eating a lot of fiber, veggys, and minimal grease compared to before. I noticed a change in my bowels right away. Without describing them completely you can figure out what fiber will do to them. On Sunday we went to the casino and I decided that I would reward myself a little since I had lost weight. There was nothing on the menu other than salad that was healthy anyways. I ended having a little bit of Chili nachos as an app, a small piece of a cheeseburger, and about 8 french fries and water. This morning I woke up and ran to the bathroom and it was not good. 2 times since I have been in the bathroom. I am thinking my body is rejecting the grease that I had. It will make me think twice about eating something like that again.

Yeah you start messing with your diet or taking certain meds and it can become like a Prospector's Sluice back there. Good luck on the continued weight loss.

Today marks the 1 month mark for dietbet. In the first month the goal was to lose 3%. For me 3% would be have been 289. As shown in post #2 the scale said 283.8 which means I win round 1. Round 2 starts today and you have to lose 6% of your starting weight be the 7th of next month. That means I only need to get to 280 which I really hope to be at next week. So far the diet has been pretty easy. I have changed it up a little but it is working for me so I am going to stick with it.

Here is my current game plan.

I purchased a fitbit which shows your steps and also tracks your calories in and out. Right now I am doing 7k steps a day. Starting Sunday I am upping it to 8k steps a day and then each week I am upping it to 1k. I also have a goal to earn a badge each week. You earn badges for hitting goals. The goal for this week is to have 1 day at 10k steps. That is the only thing that I have been doing for exercise. I know as I lose weight I will have to up that which is fine but for now this is working well.

As for food intake.
M-Th, I am eating approx 1500 calories a day and not consuming any calories through drinks. I do have 1/2 a cup of milk with my cereal in the morning.
Friday- I do my normal breakfast and lunch and then for dinner we eat out so I go over a little but still no calories through drinks and nothing fried. For example tonight we are going to McCormick and Schmicks before we see Wicked. I plan on getting a fish dinner which will be good but I will probably have bread, side, and possibly a dessert.
Sat-Sun, I am allowed 1 16 oz Sweet Tea, and my goal for food is to not take in more calories than I burn. Currently I am burning about 2800 calories in a day because I am so heavy so I will eat approx 2500 calories.

Obviously as I lose weight I am going to make some adjustments but this is working for me right now and it gives me a weekend reward to look forward to.

Net results... -16 pounds in the first month.

Next month goal. I am going to set my goal at 10 pounds a month so my actual next month goal will be 273. Ultimately I would love to see the scale hit 269 for next month.

For the first time I have gained weight. Last week I gained .6 pound. It is not a huge number but my goal was to lose 2.5 pounds so it is essentially a 3.1 pound set back. I think it is actually a good thing because it was going to well and it was too easy. This isn't supposed to be easy and this last week showed me that. I cheated 3 times, I had pop, and sweet tea. I went to a wedding and had about 9 coors lights. I was also doing great with my daily step goal until last week. On Tuesday I told my wife I needed a break because my legs were super tired and sore. However, that 1 break got me off of my routine. This small set back has re motivated me to get back on it. I have already completed 2 miles today and I plan on having a strong 2 weeks until our next hurdle which will be my sons birthday party.

Keep up the hard work! I know it doesn't matter for the purposes of DietBet, but don't forget that you may be gaining muscle (and losing fat) from all the increased activity, which could cause your weight to stay the same or increase a little, even though you are actually slimming down.

Does your scale do a % fat / % muscle measurement as well?

Ankle is mostly better. PT cleared me to return to regular sports, so I played Ultimate yesterday for the first time in 10 months, which brings me an amount of joy it's hard to really describe...it's probably the one thing in life other than my fiance that really makes me happy*. So, yay for that!

Unfortunately the ankle tendinitis threw me off of my pretty decent routine of biking to work and to the gym and lifting 3x/week. I'm still getting back into it, and my bike is temporarily out of commission as I'm trying to become competent and home bike maintenance, and I have an issue with my rear brake that I think I know how to fix, I just need to get it up on the stand and watch a few YouTube videos.

I haven't stepped on the scale in several weeks, but based on my fat gut while staring in the mirror, I'd say I'm probably back to about 227. So, off to the gym!

*ETA: to tie this back in with gambling, I would say that winning a series of big bets with a juicy count also makes me happy, but to a slightly lesser extent than playing Ultimate or spending time with my partner :).

So GWAE, what was the verdict on your diet bet? I just requested my $288.03 payout ($125 paid in.)

I started at 277.2 and needed to get down to 249.5. I crushed it, ending at 225.4. I was at 221 two weeks ago but between a trip out of state and holiday weekend, I put on a few.

That is great. Results have not been so good for me. I ended up winning 3 of the months but not the overall. 2 of the events that I was worries about really got me. I am down to 274 which is only 24 pounds. I am doing a monthly this month and need to lose 7 more by the end of this month.

Yea I had a few things I knew would get to me too. I weighed myself just about every day and when graphed out it has huge upward spikes around them. It's hard to get back on track afterwards. I did quite a few monthly bets and started 2 more 6 month bets in April. Those are all I have left and I'm only 2 pounds away from the final weight for those. Good luck on your monthly bet!

my problem is, once I get off track like at a party it snowballs. The next morning I am like, wellll I did bad yesterday so I might as well have a 5 egg omelet. Then at lunch I say welllll I can start again tomorrow. The whole time I am telling myself that I shouldn't do it but I can not overpower the want for awesome food.
