You just caused me to get up and look at my thermostat.

It's 7:26p, and I have no idea the temp because the stat only goes to 90 and the needle is in uncharted territory where the markings daren't go.

Pretty sure I can suss out those details without Mr Williams help.

I switched from central air 2 years ago to window
units, much cheaper all around. Called
ABC Warehouse and they had 5 5000BTU GE's
left for $87. Rushed over, they had 3 left. As I
was leaving there were none left. Salesman said
they sold 50 since day before yesterday. I have
a small 8x8 room this is perfect for.

My very first air unit in 1969 cost $400 at Sears.
$400! 8000 BTU, the same unit now is $125.
$400 was a boatload of money in 69, you could
buy a reliable used 63 Chevy for $300. Hell, I
bought cars in the early 70's for $150 that lasted
me for the winter, when I sold it and bought another
for $150..

There were two stories from NBC, not two full "segments". Big whoop. It's hot. 7 day heat waves (days over 90 degrees) with a large reaching heat dome is relatively rare.

I had central AC installed yesterday at the house, just in time. Usually I am on the road for my job, and last summer was no exception, but this summer I am at home, and our TV room is in our westward facing room which gets the hottest. I could have survived quite comfortably in the basement, but my better half would have none of that!

It's impossible for me to compare, because the worst heat I ever experienced back home was without air conditioning. Admittedly though, when the dew point went over 80 degrees yesterday, I wasn't doing too well on my walk to the metro.

Give me heat all day. I've posted a few times this summer about golfing in 115 degree heat. It's no big deal. Humidity though... No thanks. I golfed Saturday here in AZ and it was like 85 degrees and 45% humidity at 7 am. I was soaked through my undershirt and polo by 9 am. It's terrible. I could never live in Florida. The worst I have ever experienced was in Baltimore in 2005. 99 degrees and 99% humidity. I went to an Orioles baseball game and literally everybody was soaking wet. It was disgusting.

That whole DC, Maryland, Delaware area is deadly
in the summer. The old continental congress took
the summers off because the humidity was unbearable.

Under those conditions the dew point would have been 98 degrees, the highest recorded dew point is 95 degrees and the heat index would have been over 180 degrees. sounds pretty warm! Sorry bit of a weather nerd.

I'm in northern NJ. It's been an unbearable couple of weeks.

I'm looking forward to my Vegas trip next week and the even hotter temps. After all, no humidity....

PG county, basically Maryland southeast of DC, had a 54" watermain break and now 150000 people are out of water for 3-5 days. The low over the next few days doesn't go below the mid 70s in the middle of the night.

What heat wave, rode my bicycle home from work just a 1/2 hour ago, cool cloudy 73 degrees in Tampa after a huge rainstorm cooled us down.

In late 1950's, as a teenager, I used to help my dad on roofing jobs. Middle of summer in Baltimore, spreading hot tar on row house flat roofs all day. Now I go outside 15 minutes in 90+ here in Colorado and it is brutal !

It's over 90* again inside my house, and was still 90 when I went to bed at 10p last night. And man, have I been having some weird dreams as a result.

I remember those days (although for me it was just 10 years ago =p) 95*, sunburned but had to be out anyways, on a roof that was easily 130*, and doing hard, manual labor 14hrs a day, every day, for weeks on end.

Alot depends on what we are used to. Most of can deal with extremes if we have to.

I do know that ANY extreme condition in Vegas can have a brief effect on Bingo attendance and therefore may be turned to advantage by an alert gambler who chooses correctly how to take advantage of some extreme condition.

Otherwise the best thing to do in Vegas, is get all the free cold drinks you can and stay away from The Quad because its still built on a flood channel.

Here weather reports reveal the oxygen concentration in the casinos and that is all the locals ever need.

Winter was no piece of cake either. White asphalt shingles meant no wearing gloves.

Lol, I live near Buffalo. No winter work here. Would take us most of the day just to shovel the roof off! =D

Right now my home is over 90*F. Just 6 months ago, I was playing hockey outside, soaking wet, and without much clothing in +3*F.

The 3* was easier.

We've been lucky in Chicago. For most of the spring is never hit 80. It was wet and cold until mid June. Even in late June we nearly hit freezing overnight. The the weather pattern shifted when the volcano in Mexico erupted and we've been in the 80's with very few 90's since about the 10th of July. We've gotten lucky again and it's nice and cool in the 70's again for the entire week.

We've had only 2-3 heat advisories days and that was last week. I'm really hoping we're done with the heat, but we still have August and the dog days to get through. The only bright side is that I live in the basement of my mom's house and it's always 20 degrees cooler than the rest of the house.

Stay safe and drink plenty of water!
