It's 7:26p, and I have no idea the temp because the stat only goes to 90 and the needle is in uncharted territory where the markings daren't go.
Pretty sure I can suss out those details without Mr Williams help.
units, much cheaper all around. Called
ABC Warehouse and they had 5 5000BTU GE's
left for $87. Rushed over, they had 3 left. As I
was leaving there were none left. Salesman said
they sold 50 since day before yesterday. I have
a small 8x8 room this is perfect for.
My very first air unit in 1969 cost $400 at Sears.
$400! 8000 BTU, the same unit now is $125.
$400 was a boatload of money in 69, you could
buy a reliable used 63 Chevy for $300. Hell, I
bought cars in the early 70's for $150 that lasted
me for the winter, when I sold it and bought another
for $150..
I had central AC installed yesterday at the house, just in time. Usually I am on the road for my job, and last summer was no exception, but this summer I am at home, and our TV room is in our westward facing room which gets the hottest. I could have survived quite comfortably in the basement, but my better half would have none of that!
in the summer. The old continental congress took
the summers off because the humidity was unbearable.
Quote: Beardgoat. The worst I have ever experienced was in Baltimore in 2005. 99 degrees and 99% humidity. I went to an Orioles baseball game and literally everybody was soaking wet. It was disgusting.
Under those conditions the dew point would have been 98 degrees, the highest recorded dew point is 95 degrees and the heat index would have been over 180 degrees. sounds pretty warm! Sorry bit of a weather nerd.
I was off by a few degrees. Still ridiculously effing hot and disgusting
I'm looking forward to my Vegas trip next week and the even hotter temps. After all, no humidity....

Most of the time, anyway.

High heat, high humidity, discomfort, disgusting, and baseball, it seems you were actually in Hell :P
Quote: terapinedWhat heat wave, rode my bicycle home from work just a 1/2 hour ago, cool cloudy 73 degrees in Tampa after a huge rainstorm cooled us down.
It's over 90* again inside my house, and was still 90 when I went to bed at 10p last night. And man, have I been having some weird dreams as a result.
Quote: BuzzardIn late 1950's, as a teenager, I used to help my dad on roofing jobs. Middle of summer in Baltimore, spreading hot tar on row house flat roofs all day. Now I go outside 15 minutes in 90+ here in Colorado and it is brutal !
I remember those days (although for me it was just 10 years ago =p) 95*, sunburned but had to be out anyways, on a roof that was easily 130*, and doing hard, manual labor 14hrs a day, every day, for weeks on end.
Every man should roof for at least one year of his life.
I do know that ANY extreme condition in Vegas can have a brief effect on Bingo attendance and therefore may be turned to advantage by an alert gambler who chooses correctly how to take advantage of some extreme condition.
Otherwise the best thing to do in Vegas, is get all the free cold drinks you can and stay away from The Quad because its still built on a flood channel.
Here weather reports reveal the oxygen concentration in the casinos and that is all the locals ever need.
Winter was no piece of cake either. White asphalt shingles meant no wearing gloves.

Lol, I live near Buffalo. No winter work here. Would take us most of the day just to shovel the roof off! =D
Quote: FleaStiffAlot depends on what we are used to. Most of can deal with extremes if we have to.
Right now my home is over 90*F. Just 6 months ago, I was playing hockey outside, soaking wet, and without much clothing in +3*F.
The 3* was easier.

We've had only 2-3 heat advisories days and that was last week. I'm really hoping we're done with the heat, but we still have August and the dog days to get through. The only bright side is that I live in the basement of my mom's house and it's always 20 degrees cooler than the rest of the house.
Stay safe and drink plenty of water!
