Co-worker and wife headed for a nice week in the Vegas sun yesterday. When you live and work up here in western Canada getaways to southern places are needed to warm your soul. Winter here lasts upwards of six months ( we had snow storms on back to back weekends here in MAY!!! )

But I don't think they were expecting this 111*F stuff seeing how the high back home will be all of 61*F crazy what a 3 hour flight does weather wise

Several Commandments for those visiting Las Vegas:

Thou shalt do the Lord's Work at all times with regard to all outstretched palms.

Thou shalt neither dwelleth nor goeth to any place in Las Vegas without Air Conditioning and shall not board any public conveyance that lacks air conditioning.

Thou shalt accept all free beverages offered you in a casino and express thy gratitude with one dollar but shall be most grateful for the free water bottles for which you will express extra gratitude.

Yeah, it is brutal right now. Much warmer than it should be this time of year. Today (sat) and tomorrow will be the worst of it, 112 and 111 predicted. Monday should be back down closer to normal 101. I suppose it is even harder for those of you coming from a cooler climate to adjust. Please be careful out there and drink a lot of water. And if you are drinking alcohol, which hardly anyone does when they visit Vegas (lol), be sure to drink even more water. I have a friend who works at the Mission downtown which tries to help some of the homeless and he told me yesterday they have 'lost' 4 of there regulars this week due to the heat. 3 were young, with 2 being in their late 30's and the third in his 40's. They were all alcoholics and suffered from other problems related to alcohol abuse, but it goes to show what a deadly combination the heat and alcohol can be as far as dehydration.

What a difference two weeks makes.

It was PERFECT weather during WoVCon, with a high about 90 or so.

I hate Vegas in the heat, I won't go in the summer
anymore. Its worse than winter back east, where
at least you can wear protection from the cold.
You walk outdoors when its 112 and its like walking
into a pizza oven. You can't even think straight, it
fries your brain. Its hugely stressful on your body
whether you know it or not. Who needs that..

As long as the casino air conditioning holds up, I'm good. I've been in a few where the air conditioning just can't keep up. Or at least at the time they couldn't.

But you know it's been really hot when you're outside at 3am and the place is still baking from earlier in the day.

The only way to take the heat is to never leave
the hotel you're staying at. But whats the point
of being in Vegas, then. I can stay at the 4 Winds,
which has nicer rooms and as nice a casino than
anyplace in Vegas, for a fraction of the cost of
actually going to Vegas.

I agree that no one should go to Vegas in the summer. But surprisingly, the hotel price in Vegas during the summer is not cheap at all

Thats because of the foreign tourists. Go there in July
and its all flocks of Japanese with cameras around their
necks, and tons of people from EU. And they'll all be walking
on the Strip at 3pm at the hottest part of the day, thousands
of them.

Same here. I am in Seattle right now and while my studio gets pressure cooked when the suns out, I can imagine how bad it's gonna be once I move to Vegas. I have the weather app on google with both cities side by side; 67F here and 109F in Vegas. My days will consist of A/C in car, to A/C in casinos, and running at weird hours of the night.

What really sucks is that my car's AC is down. BUT I refuse to shell out any cash to fix it because my vehicle has well over 200,000 miles on it. With my luck, the car will take a dump as soon as I throw more money into it. Needless to say, I take care of all of my business in Vegas after the sun goes down.

So has this heat wave affected any of our Advantage Play Bingo types who now attend games that are sparsely populated due to the heat being too much for the elderly women who otherwise would be there for the early morning games?

Define "cheap." Of course it won't be that much less expensive on weekends in the summer than in the winter, since it's mostly I-15 types. As for weekday rates, could the recession be one explanation for it - in better times, did Vegas normally get more people in the spring / fall / winter (New Year's Eve excluded) than in the Summer?

Oh, and if it's up near 110 the week starting Father's Day, you can blame me - that's when I'll be in town, and as usual, I'll be doing the "Vegas local bus tour" with a bit of walking (planned examples: walking from Las Vegas Blvd to the Silverton; walking from Jerry's Nugget to Silver Nugget, and then on to Opera House) thrown in to get around. (I thought about renting a car, but with just one person, it's just not cost efficient.)

Let's see....middle of the afternoon in an open parking lot. If the windows also are rolled up.

The AC may just need a recharge which you might be able to do yourself.
