SOOPOO- that's damn funny! Hopefully our fearless leader will feel better soon so he can reveal the secret roulette system!

It would take some serious play to get a comped room, I think.

Mike has informed me they may keep him another night.
Fortunately, his psychiatrist has written an order for a VP machine to be brought into his room, to prevent psychosis from setting in.
I'm putting the over/under on his hospital bills that are paid by insurance at $8,000. This is not the phoney number that is listed first, but the actual amount his insurance company pays the hospital. If he stays more than 3 nights I'll have to adjust upwards.

Is the actual amount paid by the insurance company available to the insured, so that it can be verified? If so, I'll take the over. He came in on an emergency basis, so I am sure they ordered a bunch of tests that are going to run up his meter.
Get better soon Mike...I just fought the flu here for 4 days this weekend too,....sickest I have been in the last 25 years of my life
for the flu. Lucky for him Obamacare hasn't
kicked in, he'd still be in the emergency
waiting room. And they never would have
paid for a guy his age to be admitted to the
hospital with just the flu. Send him home
with a scrip, he'll be just fine..
Quote: coilmanAny truth to the rumor that the real cause of this sudden illness was a photo of Wiz 's wife test driving a Bently arriving in his email?
I thought it was the Bugatti Veyron SuperSport @ just $2,400,400.00 it's a steel!!!
Feel better Wiz.

I spent a night in the hospital recently. The 'fake' bill was over $7000. The amount my insurance company actually paid to the hospital was around $3500. I was responsible for a $150 copay. The bill I received was easy to figure out. I know exactly how much the hospital would have billed me if I was uninsured, and exactly how much they accepted because they 'participate' with my insurance company.
And, geez, Bob! Obamacare IS the law of the land, and Mike was taken care of.

That's not remotely close to how it works, and you really just sound like an idiot when you keep repeating this.

That's because the Death Panels aren't operating yet. Gamblers will be deemed useless eaters as the Nazis used to put it. Yes, I am kidding!

Really? 95% of Obamacare doesn't even kick in till
2014. Its 2013. Barely. The fun has yet to begin.
Quote: odiousgambitThat's because the Death Panels aren't operating yet.
Sure they are, just not vigorously. Just last month
a woman of 72 was turned down by Medicare for
a heart operation because she had the same operation
when was 66. It was supposed to 'fix' her and its
not Medicare's fault that it didn't. They aren't paying
for it again. No, I don't have the link, look it up yourself.

He said food poisoning and some form of an e coli infection. I did get the impression that he is recovering and that the worst is over even though he didn't sound well.
Quote: rainmanDamn? this is just the flu?
People can die of the flu. Not only from agressive, exotic varieties like swine flu, but also the regular seasonal flu. Granted this risk is higher for the elderly and those with health problems. But it happens.
Food poisoning and E. Coli are more serious than a mere flu.

Holy crap! This is not good news, 2 weeks? They feel his life is
in danger or they'd send him home. Wish we had more info.
Quote: NareedFood poisoning and E. Coli are more serious than a mere flu.
Hopefully, he will recover without any permanent damage, but it sounds pretty serious to put him out for this long.
Eh, I wonder what the food poisoing source might be?
Only about 3% of those infected. And 10% of those usually get
complications like the following. If Mike has this, he's in
some serious trouble.
Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, or HUS, follows around 10 percent of E. coli O157:H7 infections. HUS occurs when Shiga toxins get into the bloodstream and cause the part of the kidney that filters toxins out of the blood to break down, causing kidney injury and sometimes kidney failure. Some HUS patients also suffer damage to the pancreas and central nervous system impairment.
when you have your health you have everything.....he seems like a great guy, hopefully everything will be OKQuote: EvenBobJust reading about e coli. Most don't require hospitalization.

has a 25% chance of dying in the hospital? What

Is there a Doctor in the house? The guy is alert and talking to everybody, evidently not in the IC. They are talking like he could still die? WTF?
Slow-can't-do-nothing-for-you dying sounds like eating poison mushrooms, touching a poison frog, or swallowing polonium-210 or some damn thing, not food poisoning!
Can some knowledgeable person explain if this sounds right?

That is great to hear!Quote: JBHe is out of the hospital and is working on a blog post this very moment.
I was just about to post that E. Coli infection is very serious and everytime there is an epidemic (like with the green onions a few years back), there are always a non-insignificant amount of deaths.

Darn you EvenBob... You scared the E.Coli out of me..
Anyway, glad to hear recovery is sounding more certain.
Looking forward to the announcement that all is well soon!
