My apologies for the delays. I will get this finished, then post a single list in a seperate thread later. The last few may be a struggle, but this is a project I intend to complete this week.

I'm watching "Ed Bernstein" local show, and he has a guy on named Jack Sheehan who said something about Circus Circus use to have a live elephant on a bungee cords that flew around the casino and "was very distracting to gamblers" (you think?) and also had "accidents" while up above the crowd.

True or False? I'm asking.

(obviously, this would be well before PETA got busy on these kind of things)

According to biographies on Circus Circus, creator, Jay Sarno the "flying elephant" was one of the early gimmicks to draw attention to the new casino. It wasn't on bungee cords though, just suspended on cables. Read a blurb here

Is Flip-A-Winna or Penny Falls the name of one of those games that slides the coins forward?

Quote:

n 1978, Jack Gordon offered twelve thousand dollars to then-chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission Harry Reid to approve two new, carnival-like gaming devices (Flip-A-Winna and Penny Falls) for casino use. Gordon believed the games would bring him more than $100 million in profits. Reid notified the FBI and allowed agents to videotape a meeting with Gordon in his office. At the point where Reid asked, “Is this the money?” FBI agents burst in to arrest Gordon. Reid, a former boxer, exclaimed “You son of a bitch, you tried to bribe me!” and attempted to strangle Gordon, before startled agents pulled him off.[3] Gordon was convicted in federal court in 1979 and sentenced to six months in prison.[2] In 1981, Reid's wife found a bomb attached to one of their cars, a bomb Reid suspects was placed by Gordon.[4]

Jack Gordon also was once married to La Toya Jackson

On another note, we were surprised last weekend by the seeming lack of people handing out the cards on the strip of near nude women asking for escort services. Was there an effort to clean this up in the past year. This would make the strip far more kid-friendly, not that I would ever bring my children to Vegas.

I used those as bookmarks! Funny how my husband and I could walk down the strip together, holding hands, and he'd still end up with a deck of what look like baseball cards but weren't (I was very disappointed that they didn't have stats on the back).

That's a great idea-bookmarks. I thought about bringing a handful of those back with me to give out as souvenirs..."Look what I brought you guys".

Oh, my god. Baseball stats would be AWESOME in this context. Doubles, triples, homeruns, slugging percentage...

Then there's the whole issue about what the stats would mean. Balk? Error? Would those be as dirty as I think?

I dunno. "Balk" usually means to start in to do something but then change your mind and not. Could be a very reasonable course of action in this case.

While not about Vegas, it's about Vegas.

Quote:

Before the late 1950s, Reno was the gambling capital of the United States...

I kinda of wondered what happened to Reno.

Quote:

but in the last twenty years Las Vegas' rapid growth, American Airlines' 2000 buyout of Reno Air and the growth of Indian gambling gaming in California have reduced its business. Older casinos were either torn down (Mapes Hotel, Fitzgerald's Nevada Club, Primadonna, Horseshoe Club, Harold's Club, Palace Club) or smaller casinos like the Comstock, Sundowner, Golden Phoenix, Kings Inn, Money Tree, Virginian, and Riverboat were either closed or were converted into condos

(Oscar)Goodman is the only major city mayor in history to be succeeded by his spouse.

I find that hard to believe, that he's the only one.

But that's what it says here
