This story is absolute unbelievable stupid.

Italian geology scientists were sentenced to 6 years in prison, because they could not forsee an earthquake which killed 300 people. WOW

No earthquake prediction system is precise enough for criminal charges, but its a political event to charge them just as the trial is a theatrical event.

Often other countries automatically arrest air traffic controllers or airline executives upon a mere showing of over fifteen fatalities in an incident. When Air France lost track of a plane that had crashed hours before executives were indicted despite it being routine to make no checks until about one hour prior to scheduled arrival at Paris.

Making calming statements to the public about rumblings may have been sensible, but when they proved factually inaccurate, Italian newspapers and lawyers get involved. Trials are unscripted soap operas... the public loves them. Think of Amanda Knox.

Certainly, this ruling will not discourage any Italian students from becoming geologists.

No, that story is incredibly scary. What's next? Meteorlogists jailed o rfailing to rpedict floods or the exact paths of hurricanes? For failing to predict drought? Or we can immitate the noble savage and sacrifice the scientists for causing earthquakes, floods, droughts, hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, etc.

I hope the Italian courts are this harsh on the captain of the Concordia.

So there will be no geologists anymore in Italy, and those who still give their opinions will *always* dramatize the analysis to cover their butt.
With the effect that no-one would ever want to listen to them.

I think that the National Security bureaucrats should have been brought up on charges for failing to defend the nation on 9/11. I mean, come on, these guys are always saying that our safety is their top priority, and they didn't catch A highjacker.

Italy's court system is a complete joke. They even sentenced 4 Google execs to 3-6 months for allowing an offensive youtube video to be uploaded. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Then there was the whole Amanda Knox thing. I wish I could say that this verdict with the scientists surprises me, but in that farce of a country, it really doesn't.

Welp, any doubts I had about Knox's innocence just went right out the window.

It seems like Italy hands out convictions and prison sentences like they are going out of style. Then they have the audacity to think that they are setting a precedent for the rest of the world by throwing these scientists in prison. It's beyond ridiculous.
