That's what these kinds of posts really are; attention whore posts. Look at me! But I think this one is important, and especially since I know some folks here.

I'm no longer a 300 pounder.

Not that I set out to do this, or anything, and diet talk is boring. I still love my food. I'm still going to eat it.

But anyhow, I've lost 10%. I didn't really set it as a goal. I changed some things, but not a lot of things. I used less oil on stuff, ate less sweets and salty snacks, declined to eat the last third of whatever I was served, except I could finish the vegetables if I liked them. 2 egg omelets instead of 3 egg omelets, or 2 soft boild eggs on rye toast instead of an omelet. 5 oz hamburgers instead of 6 oz cheeseburgers.I switched from ice cream and cake to watermelon and pineapple for after dinner.

I don't own a scale. I don't beat myself up. I found out how much I lost at the doctor's office today. Last time, at the end of April, it was 329; today it was 297. I might go down more, I might not... I'm not thinking of it that way, I'm thinking about how to be happy with whatever it is I do. I eat a little less because it pleases me to do that, is the only way to say it.

I hate exercise, and I don't do it. I should walk, but it seems so pointless to me, there's no destination. If it pleases me to start walking, I'll do it, but I don't think that's going to happen soon. If the dog liked being walked, I'd do it, but she walks 15 yards and sits down and looks at me like I'm an idiot. (She's an English bulldog.)

Anyhow, look at me, look at me!

Wow, what a strange dog you own!

Seriously, all dogs I've known love nothing better than going for a walk. One dog I owned, a timid French Poodle called Daisy, would not be swayed from a walk even by ice cream.

Hey! That's only a 9.72% reduction! Quit yer squakin till you get that other 0.28% buddy!

Just kidding. That's great! Keep up the good work.

FYI: 0.28% is less than one pound....

Mosca--

a year ago March I hurt my back real bad. I was stuck in bed except for suffering to get to the bathroom and meals. I had gone up 30+ pounds since retiring a year earlier. I knew losing weight would help my situation so I went on a very low carb diet. Tuna, salads, fruit, fish chicken ...without any activity the 30 pounds came off just watching TV and playing Chess (computer chess) over a 2 month period.

Thanks man. Bob, you'd win. I'm happy that I lost, but I refuse to become a body nazi. If it makes me happy to do this, I'll do it, if it starts to rule me I'll become unhappy and stop.

I love food. I love hearty food, like ribs and pulled pork and greasy pizza and bacon burgers and chili made with cheap beef and lard. I refuse to stop eating food I love... but I reserve the right to eat less of it. That's all.

Yeah, Nareed, that is really strange. She's a rescue dog, she was a puppy mill dam. She was born in a puppy mill, and then gave birth to three litters in three years in the same one. She doesn't like walks, she doesn't know how to play, she doesn't mark territory, she doesn't like to walk on grass (a vet told me that's common, if they live in barns and walk on dirt and straw.) She's got a very sweet disposition, but her personality is very flat, very one dimensional. She fills a dog spot in the world, but nothing more.

And really sad, too. I hope at least you "spoil" her now.

Good for you Mosca! It is amazing how the little things make such a big difference in weight loss.

Just curious, how long did it take you to lose the 30 lbs?

And are you doing anything to reward yourself? A trip to Vegas perhaps?

Losing weight is simple. Figure out what makes you fat
and stop eating it. For most people, its complex carbs.

I started at the end of April, so about 2 1/2 months. Mind you, we went on vacation at the end of June, and I ate at some laid out buffets and at Seafire Steakhouse. We had prime rib at Pacer's Clubhouse on the 4th. My only thing is, as soon as I feel a little full I stop. Most of us big folks don't have the governor that says "I'M FULL!" So I have to do it purposefully.

If all goes well we'll be in Vegas at the end of October. We'll be staying at The Wynn. I'd like to meet some folks this time, it will be fun.

For me, it's sitting at the computer staring at this forum. I'm taking your advice. Goodbye people! See you in 50 pounds!

I got an app on my cell phone called Lose It! and have been tracking my caloric intake. I have a budget of 1800 calories a day to lose 2 pounds a week. This and I have started riding a bicycle again after a decade of not riding. I too have lost around 30 pounds. Now I'm hovering around 205. The gubbemint says I should weigh 190..

Excellent! It works for you, and makes you satisfied.

Some background,

I've yoyo'd my whole life. I've been as high as the 329 I said, and as low as 197. My problem is that when I'm light I'm not happy. I have a short temper, I am intolerant of others and what I perceive as their shortcomings. I get very highly driven. I become an asshole. (Not that I'm not an asshole NOW, but now I care about being seen as one, and cover it up very effectively.)

If I drive myself to lose, that will happen again. A long, healthy life of anger isn't worth living, IMO. But if I do it in this offhand way, then I get to stay happy and easygoing. And that would be really excellent, if it works.

Hey Mosca,
Just curious. How much did you weigh when we met? LOL
