I thought my life gave me plenty of free time. I guess I should choose to be gay. Then I too could whore myself out to several different guys. I could have plenty of free time, have no responsibilities, and still be able to claim to have all of these fulfilling chapters in my life. Sounds great, aside from the fact that sucking dick isn't my cup of tea. This is exactly what a great friend of mine has been doing for the last 20 years. He is the same age as me (41) and really has accomplished nothing in his life. But he does tell me about all of his exploits. Great life if you can get it I suppose. He has great friends, he travels the world (even brings my wife cool gifts from abroad), and claims to be extremely happy. Of course, I have known him for over 30 years, he is like a brother, too bad he is really sad inside, and wishes he would have made different choices. But on the outside, he is just a happy, carefree gay....god bless him!
I guess I will just have to suffer thought this mundane heterosexual life with my wife of 22 years and my 4 great kids, and somehow figure out how I am going to keep food on the table. Tough tradeoff, but I will mange somehow....

A few questions for the 'you are born that way' group.....
There are obviously many men who for many years only participate in heterosexual activities, have families, children, etc...., then come out later in life and leave their old 'lifestyle' behind and announce they are gay. If he are in a car accident and dies before he has his first gay encounter, was he a gay man? If before his gay encounter he reconsiders and thinks that participating in a gay act will ruin his reputation and harm his children, and thus he never has a gay encounter, would you consider him to be a gay man? It really seems pretty simple to me. He may have internal desires to have sex with a man, but for whatever reason, has CHOSEN not to.
As far as the Navy statement, doesn't that also support that it is a CHOICE? Many of those men were living 'normal' heterosexual lives, and then when put in a situation of scarcity of females, and abundance of males, CHOSE to have homosexual relations. Of course, the great majority CHOSE not to. The ones that opted to sleep with other men I would say were PREDISPOSED to do so, but ultimately it is their choice.
This thread reminds me of some of the ridiculous legal defenses used, with genetics as a basis... "I have a chromosomal abnormality so that's why I was violent". There are known gentic abnormalities that statistics will show PREDISPOSE you to be more violent, but ultimately, it is your CHOICE to pull the trigger or not.
As far as the 'science' behind either side of this argument, there really is none that is close to being definitive.

of course choosing to act on sexual desire is a choice.
but for many people the attraction to their own gender predominates their sexual self.
should they deny themselves to engage in activity with another consenting adult
because the majority of people do not understand those attractions?
what if you were attracted to a person, who was also attracted to you.
what if you fell in love and wanted to be next to that person
for the rest of your life.
would you just roll over and accept that you could not be

I imagine if one was raised in a society where one is told that heterosexuality should be resisted, and homosexuality was normal, we'd have screwed up people coming out later in life claiming they were actually heterosexual. The opposite of your description.
In Iran, there are no gay people at all. (Iranian Presidential statement) I wonder what kind of suprises that produces in families? Then perhaps they are executed if caught later in life, coming out gay.

You're laboring under the misconception that having one kind of sex defines a person's sexual attraction. That is just not so. You should know the body responds to physical stimuli more or less predictably. It's not unheard of for orgasm to take place during rape, for example.
So think about this: if a man needs to fantasize about men in order to get aroused enough to have sex with a woman, is he straight? Or is he merely managing to go through the motions well enough to ejaculate? Women don't even need to be aroused to let men have sex with them.

No, it's not that simple. Sexual orientation is a matter of attraction, not of mechanical actions. A gay man under pressure to hide his sexuality may go through great lengths to do so, including marrying a woman and having sex with her. But that doesn't mean he's attracted to her.
Is that plain enough for you?
The reason you do not see straight men engage in sex with other men, is that there is no social or family rpessure on anyone to pretend to be gay.
