(been posting alot lately from work last few days due to being in remote training at work and its boring. Teacher trainer is at home in San Antonio and me the student is in Tampa and other students at home in various cities around the country. Its all over the computer and phone)
I have to question you taste on this one. Good Idea but they failed to deliver.Quote: GWAE
Pan Am
Quote: GWAEI have now taken a pact with myself that I will not watch a new show until it gets picked up for the 2nd season.
Ah, I was disappointed The Sarah Connor Chronicles dind't get a second season. The cliffhanger endig was rather promising. And we never learned what the liquid metal terminator wanted....
These days, too, you can indulge in some binge watching when you come upon a show "late." I did that with Stargate SG-1 (in DVD) and the Big Bang Theory (reruns). I was very "late" to Stargate, too. I started watching it a year after it ended. Great show.
NBC's "American Ninja Warrior" is fun too. The most memorable moment for me was watching a background bit on a former Olympic snowboarder, who was touting her competitive experience and athletic ability for a full two minutes. When the bell rang, she took two steps and fell in the water, disqualifying her from the competition. She then ran off the course complaining about how cold it was. Hilarious.
As for most hated... I don't waste my time on any, "date then marry" nor "live with a group in a competition" shows.
Quote: kewljThe original Dallas. I was too young to have watched it when it aired, but started watching re-runs in my teens (90's) and found the show fascinating.
Likewise, I started watching re-runs of the Andy Griffin show 2 years ago after Andy Griffin passed away and find that to be enjoyable and a very wholesome show. Kind of a glimpse into yesteryear.
Andy Griffith is a classic. Pretty much have seen every episode. Opie and the Bully was one of the best episodes.
Quote: DRichThe only current TV show I watch is Big Bang Theory. Other than that I watch about 30 minutes a day of TV before falling asleep. My viewing generally consists of old sitcoms that I still record (Cheers, MASH, ALF, Hogans Heroes, etc)
I enjoy Hogan's Heroes. I am not sure how it "works", since the reality of the situation was so horrific. Perhaps the idea of bumbling Nazi's with an American pulling the strings is a very appealing escapist fantasy.

I never got that myself. My brothers watched that the whole way, but I never understood. Even now, "too soon".
Quote: AxelWolfI have to question you taste on this one. Good Idea but they failed to deliver.
I am intrigued on shows that take place in the 40-60s. Shows like Pan am, Play boy club, and Vegas show another side to life that I have a hard time believing was true.
Quote: AyecarumbaI enjoy Hogan's Heroes. I am not sure how it "works", since the reality of the situation was so horrific. .
It worked because the war had only been
over for 20 years in 1965. Now when you
mention WWII and Europe, people get the
knee jerk reaction of death camps. It
wasn't that way in 1965.
Most of the vets were in their 40's then,
not their 90's. They knew the war had
a lot of nuance, like having POW camps
just for captured AF. So having a camp
run by inept Germans was a funny
premise. Klink and Shultz and the others
at the camp were not Nazis, but Nazis
did visit occasionally.
The time the show takes place is mostly
the winter of 1941-42. That's why it's
always winter in every episode. We had
just gotten into the war and Hogan was
was one of the first Americans captured.
He was flying for the Brits at the time, I
believe.

Same way as "The Producers" works: making the nazis look like blithering idiots.
Quote: EvenBobAnybody else watching Hell on Wheels? One of the best
shows ever on TV. It depicts the Old West very well
and they spare no expense on sets or extra's. You can
see the first 3 seasons on Netflix, and the 4th starts
Aug 2nd. Anson Mount is wonderful in the lead role,
I have a man crush on him. We all wanted to be this
guy when we were 35..
Yes, I watch Hell On Wheels. Can't wait for Aug 2nd. It was a newspaperman in 1868 who coined the term "Hell On Wheels" in describing the railhead somewhere in Wyoming when the first transcontiental railroad was being built. I also like Deadwood.
When channel surfing, and I get to Animal Planet, if those idiot bigfoot hunters are on, I keep surfing.
Quote: NareedSame way as "The Producers" works: making the nazis look like blithering idiots.
Producers was also made in the mid 60's.
We looked at WWII and Nazi's differently
then, we laughed at them a lot. They
weren't evil incarnate as they are depicted
now.
I do to but ,PA was bad after a few episodes. As the youth would say, IT'S GAY.Quote: GWAEI am intrigued on shows that take place in the 40-60s. Shows like Pan am, Play boy club, and Vegas show another side to life that I have a hard time believing was true.
You might like Magic City. WIKI: Set in 1959 Miami, Florida shortly after the Cuban Revolution, Magic City tells the story of Ike Evans (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the owner of Miami's most glamorous hotel, the Miramar Playa. Evans is forced to make an ill-fated deal with Miami mob boss Ben Diamond (Danny Huston) to ensure the success of his glitzy establishment.
The Americans is 70/80s but its interesting
FX:The Americans is a period drama about the complex marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington D.C. shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected President. The arranged marriage of "Philip" (Matthew Rhys) and "Elizabeth Jennings" (Keri Russell), who have two children – 14-year-old "Paige" (Holly Taylor) and 11-year-old "Henry" (Keidrich Sellati), who know nothing about their parents’ true identity – grows more passionate and genuine by the day, but is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War and the intimate, dangerous and darkly funny relationships they must maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control. Their neighbor, "FBI Agent Stan Beeman" (Noah Emmerich) has already come dangerously close to discovering their secret, but was thwarted by "Nina" (Annet Mahendru), his KGB mole and paramour. Torn between his wife "Sandra" (Susan Misner) and his deepening feelings for Nina, Stan is completely unaware that the beautiful Russian is actually a double agent, reporting on him to the KGB. Philip has been more successful handling his mole within the FBI, "Martha" (Alison Wright), assistant to Stan’s boss, "Special Agent Gaad" (Richard Thomas). Romancing Martha under the guise of one of his cover identities, an FBI bureaucrat named "Clark," Philip has secured her unquestioning loyalty…by marrying her. Meanwhile, in the Jennings’ house, Paige has become increasingly suspicious that her parents are hiding something.
I'm surprised they have not tried a TV series with a Catch me if you can theme.
Rush - New show on USA that has many similarities to House
Graceland
Californication
I saw someone mention Cowboy Bebop which is one of my past favorites.
Quote: AxelWolfI'm surprised they have not tried a TV series with a Catch me if you can theme.
There was a show called, "It Takes A Thief" with Robert Wagner (based on the Hitchcock movie) with sorta that theme. More recently, there was also a really fun show called, "Leverage" on TNT that starred Timothy Hutton as an ex insurance investigator who forms a con-team to perform Robin Hood swindles. There's a British version of the show too called, "Hustle".
MASH, Cheers, Seinfeld (There may never be a sitcom as funny as Seinfeld)
In no particular order:
Comedies:
Always Sunny in Philadelphia
30 Rock
Dramas
Friday Night Lights
House of Cards
24
Person of Interest (Best current network show)
True Detectives
The Rockford Files, I almost forgot :)
Sports: (off topic, I know)
I know you don't agree and I'll not try to persuade you. It will always be a niche sport, but there is nothing better than the drama and beauty of the Tour De France. I will be sad to see it end on Sunday.
Quote: JimRockford(There may never be a sitcom as funny as Seinfeld)

That's because there's only one Larry David.
He was that show, and when he left it wasn't
nearly as funny. Seinfeld is OK, he doesn't
have half of LD's talent though. David's
show was on for 8 years and it wasn't cancelled,
he got tired of doing it. He says there will
be a season 9, when he gets around to it.

Scandalous :)

I thought it ended when Neil Armstrong admitted to taking illegal performance enhancing drugs when he rode his bike to the Moon ;)

OMG, Somebody here knows and likes Cowboy Bebop.
So cool. Hardly anybody in the general public is even aware of this show.
Great show, really good music, love the jazzy opening theme.
My 2nd most favorite anime ever, after Black Lagoon. Both are similar except Black Lagoon is a lot more violent.

I'll keep Black Lagoon in mind. Most of my limited knowledge of anime comes from cartoon network. Fooly Cooly (Furi Kuri) is the only other anime I really got into, and it was only 6 episodes. I thought Lain looked interesting from a distance, but I never bought the DVD's.
It Takes a Thief with Robert Wagner was a good show as well.
The Avengers (1960 version with Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg) was worth watching too, even though it came on around 12:30 AM.
Edt: Don't know how I forgot my favorite, Alias Smith and Jones.
Quote: RaleighCrapsHogan's Heroes was a favorite. I'll always watch it when I see it on TV, even though I have probably seen every episode a dozen times or more.

I LOVED Alias: Smith and Jones; probably haven't thought about it in 30 years. Thanks for the mention.
How about the Prisoner. Loved it, I am not number 6. Who is number 1?
Great show except for the last weird ending episode.

So, without looking it up, can you name the two character names, and the actors who played them?
I know the characters, and I am pretty sure I know the dark haired actor's name. Not sure I have the second actor yet though.
show was on and had to be replaced?
Suicide, maybe.
Quote: EvenBobDidn't one of the S&J guys die when the

Yeah, I was just reading back about that. "Smith" killed himself on NYE 1971 over drinking and a DUI. They replaced him but the fans didn't accept the change. I, myself, was crushed out on "Jones".
was in the supermarket tabloids. No news
networks yet, no internet. And magazines,
a bajillion mags in those days.
Quote: IbeatyouracesYep. There were three actors.
Didn't they just just try and stick the new
guy in as a replacement, like they did on
Bewitched, and it didn't go over very well.
These days there would be a back story.
Darren's, Dick York and Dick Sargant, both
died at the same age, 63. York from smoking
4 packs of Lucky's a day, and Sargant from
AIDS. They died within a year of each other
in the early 90's.

Hannibal Hayes and Kid Curry were the characters.
I am pretty sure HH was played by Pete Duel, who committed suicide.
I had forgotten that they tried to replace him. I did not like the change at first, but the second actor was fine after a bit.
I am not able to remember the actor who played Kid Curry, but I can see his face plain as day.......

Ben Murphy. Particularly hot to a teen at the time.
If you look at his shows, though, he looks like one of those legendary people in the industry who was probably known as a show-killer. Can't believe how many short-lived series he had over 20 years.
as the new Hannibal with no explanation. Hard
to believe the show was only on for two seasons,
it seemed much longer than that. They were back
shooting 12 hours after Pete Duel's death.
Loves Raymond, is amazing. She was 71 when she
started on that show and had been on TV every
year since 1951. That's 45 years. She's almost 90
and still working, hasn't been off TV since she left
Raymond at age 80. She sure didn't look or act
80. She was 10 years older than Peter Boyle, who
died a year after the show went off.
Hahaha... I would even change channels when the COMMERCIALS for Cop Rock would come on. I never saw an episode, so I can't say it was the most hated.Quote: zippyboySo, nobody's gonna claim Cop Rock, Manimal, Jerry Springer or Pink Lady and Jeff as a favorite show?
Yes.Quote: 1BBGEMMA'S DEAD! Does anyone watch the show?
you forgot to mention the other 2 that died.
Quote: AxelWolfYes.
you forgot to mention the other 2 that died.
Yeah, Unser and Juice. I knew Juice would get it in the end. :-) I wonder how many deaths there were in the entire series. There's more to come, that's for sure.
I'm shocked that the show will only survive 3 seasons. I think this may have been my favorite show of all time. I love the characters and the writing......doesn't hurt that Olivia Munn is a FOX!!!
The only two shows I now watch regularly are:
"The Heart, She Holler"
and
"Raising Hope."
Both are absurdist comedies which mock the human condition.
Other than that, I like Workaholics and Supernatural.
Big Bang Theory
Big Bang Theory,
Arrested Development
Seinfeld reruns
Portlandia
