Exactly....I wish kids were not even allowed on the Strip, or within miles of any gambling establishment in LV...and it was enforced!

Tropicana only won $43.2 million from Jan-Jul of 2011 on their table games. So losing $53 million to one gentleman would be catastrophic. I think you are missing a decimal point. They lost $5.3 million in June to one gentleman so that their table game earnings for the month were only $0.528 million .

In any event the lingerie was probably part of a general strategy that had nothing to do with their losses that month.

I'm more concerned that those poor girls are outside in those skimpy outfits at night in the winter when it may be 40 degrees out.

I can't believe there actually ever was such a time in the post-Bugsy-Siegel history of Las Vegas where family-friendliness was a priority; I thought that as a Clark Griswald misconception is what made Vegas Vacation funny. But so what? Why would anyplace built around the sin of gambling be expected to be rated TV-Y7? Why do we measure the goodness of a tourist attraction by how many ballpits and jungle-gyms that it has for the kiddies? The nickname "Sin City" is nothing new, and not every entertainment hot-spot needs to be sterilized to become "safe" for your kid!

PaiGowDan needs to read this article, considering his talk about how lowered payouts on table games and diminished comps is positive proof of the devastating effect of "cheaters" on the profits of hotel-casinos. Vegas has fared much better than Reno (whose casino industry has been virtually wiped out by the depres....er, I'm sorry - I mean recession) just because the execs there are ruthless enough to know that we are glad to throw at them whatever money they ask for. The FSX-erotic-dancer situation is just an example of that thinking, because we "expect" such displays. And it keeps Las Vegas from becoming another ghost town.

It even made the cover of TIME, lo these many eyars ago (if you understand what a TIME is, that is).

You can see the detritus all over town: the Sirens of Ti (originally the Brit Navy vs pirates), the Mirage Volcano, the Dolphin and wildlife habitat also at Mirage, the late Trek ride and exhibit, the Excalibur, the rollercoasters, I dare say even the Bellagio fountains. On the upside, it left lots of free entertainment lying around. But the questions does arise: what the hell were they thinking?????

Its corporate greed. They saw a whole new market
of people who weren't contributing their fair share

I grew up down the road from VEGAS (Bullhead City, AZ). We went there all the time. Sure my parents would give us money drop us at the arcade and go gamble. BIG DEAL!!! It sure beat sitting at home playing "whatever", we were somewhere else and playing VIDEO GAMES! Now, I will say that the "adult Industry" side of VEGAS is not for the kiddies, but that is the parents responsibility, not the citiy's.

I used to love to go to VEGAS, I mean, we had WET N WILD ( it is now the WYNN and ENCORE, i think), CC had all the midway games and the trapize and don't forget the food...buffets as far as I could see and cheap. I know "new" VEGAS is different, been there many times since i have been an adult.

okay, I am done. Reading this, just got me thinking of my childhood.

oh yeah, did anyone's parents let them fill out the KENO card while at breakfast or whatnot and turn it in? Mine did..and let us keep the winnings( 99% of the time it was jsut a couple of bucks)....good times. thanks for the memories SIN CITY!!!

Demographically, it was also smart since the "baby boom echo" of the millennial generation was for kids born in the 80's. So in the mid 90's, they would be pre-teens and so could appreciate the visual over-stimulation of Las Vegas. Then there was a drop in the number of families, also compounded by the general increase in the age women get pregnant. Incidentally, as that millennial generation turns 21, they are less interested in gambling than the previous generation. The club goers drop money at the club but they may just dump a few bucks into a slot machine as a lark. Even at the trendy casinos like Cosmopolitan or Planet Hollywood, at the times where people my age might hit the tables, the majority of the people are middle age and up.

Actually, I have less of a problem with the kids in strollers (other than the traffic congestion caused by them) since the kids don't remember anything. When they are 5-13, they are impressionable. At 13 if they were boys they would have likely gambled on poker, marbles, or craps in junior high for quarters anyway. Teenage girls I think people want to protect more, although given how fast gossip travels in that circles that loss of those virgin eyes comes soon enough.
