I've been drinking since I was 12. I'm now in my 62'd lap around the sun. No human being has ever seen my head hit the bar. And furthermore, Kerkebet, even though I've had a bad drinking and smoking habit all my life, I've still never been to a doctor for a health reason. The only time I ever had to go to a doctor was I needed to be stiched up after a bar room brawl. But guess what, Kerk, I still didn't lose those fights. I can take licking and keep on ticking, brother. In other words, if you hit me, don't expect me to go down, you better expect that you will be put to sleep by the one and only Mickey Crimm, in short order.

And I'm next door in the bar today. Just came home, I live right on the other side of the wall, to check my email. The name of the bar is THAT BAR, 619 Central Avenue, Great Falls, Montana, 59401. So if any of you bad asses want to come up and play, you will know where to find me. You better be nice or I will knock your ass out. Open invitation, folks.

We all have.

Sometimes not fighting is worse, but that doesn't explain the rest.

My standard advice is to give up the rest. Bit by bit, starting with the days on which the urges are weakest. Expect a few setbacks. Best thing to do is find someone else to help out to give your own recovery a purpose. Better is to move out of the environment which triggers what you are doing.

It may be "cool" to get high, etc - and others may "let it go" - but in my opinion, you're hurting only yourself. Ask yourself, did I come from a fish-swamp a million years ago via the human race - a whole new breed of animal - to end up a broken-down gambler in an early grave?

I don't know, maybe no one ever told you that every one of us has trials and problems, but it's the notable successes which are unique. You still have time.

Kirk, I gamble for a living. I'm also a Christian man, never mind my drinking habit. I don't care about how to justify both truths. They are both real to me. Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God and he died for my sins. It was the way I was taught as a youngster. My folks for generations have always been God fearing people. "Prussia" was not Germany.

For all intents and purposes, it was the foundation for the Germany we have come to know over the last 150 years. As Wikipedia puts it succinctly: "For centuries, the House of Hohenzollern ruled Prussia, successfully expanding its size by way of an unusually well-organised and effective army. Prussia, with its capital in Berlin after 1451, shaped the history of Germany. In 1871, German states united in creating the German Empire under Prussian leadership."

I wouldn't have known any of this if not for the genealogical studies of some of my ancestors. In 1810, under the throne of Queen Anne, a german/swiss migration to the American Colonies was started. The English needed settlers for the American Colonies, not the tidewater areas, but the inland areas. They needed more planters and craftsmen, and they wanted to buffer the coastal towns from the Native Americans.

Prince Frederiche of Denmark/Norway, the husband of Queen Anne, was instrumental in starting the migration. He took a dim view of the way that Germans from the Palatinate, in the very south of Germany had been treated. He was half German. They suffered from decades of war, invasion, disease and religious persecution. At least that's the way history records it but most likely they were the easiest targets to convince to migrate to the American Colonies.

From 1710 to just before the start of the Revolutionary war more than 100,000 Germans and German speaking swiss migrated to America. The great bulk of them came between 1727 and 1752. The ships all came, with the exception that a few landed in South Carolina, to the port of Philadelphia. The Philadelphians saw the huge influx of foreigners as a security risk. They passed laws requiring the ships captains to turn over a list of the names of males passengers at the age of 16 or older. Then the passengers were required to take an oath to the English Crown, and those names were recorded. Then the passengers were required to take an Oath of Adjuration, denouncing their loyalty to Germany/Switzerland. And those that did were now recorded on a different list.

So these immigrants made three separate lists when they came to America. Many of those lists are still in existence today. And a genealogist can go online to Pennsylvania German Pioneers Ships Passengers Lists, and view the names of the ships and the dates of their arrivals , and the names of the male passengers 16 and older.

These foreigners settled mostly in Pennsylvania and Virginia. In order to entice these people to come to America the English promised them fertile land, 50 acres for every family member, free provisions for one year, and tax exempt status for 10 years. The only catch was they had to pay for their own passage over. Those who couldn't pay for their own passage were offered 4 years of indentured servitude to pay for their passage.

For the most part these people became prosperous planters in America. There was another wave of German immigration in the 1800's. Its the reason that german surnames are the most common in America.

Would Franco have won the Spanish Civil War without Germany? I think Germany is batting .500
