My anger was more over dragging Bob's ex-wife and current GF into this.

Wait a second... Bob Dancer wrote about all this publicly in his online column. Therefore, I think all comments about his column and what he wrote is fair game. But if it isn't fair game, please explain why so I can correct my thinking. Thanks.

I didn't care for the comment "Maybe we should ask Shirley about that." Perhaps I read stuff into it that wasn't there. In my opinion, it is best to play it safe and not mention a man's wife, ex-wife, GF, mother, or daughters at all in public, even if the poster brings her up first.

I don't take that as being an offensive comment: "Maybe we should ask Shirley about that." It's saying, in effect --- let's look at the other perspective.

You know the personalities involved, so you might have some personal prejudice.

When I was in the news business, if we knew a politician or businessman outside of business (personal contact) we would not cover a story involving that person. Which is why news people generally do not socialize with those they "cover" and report on. Years ago when I worked for CBS my inlaws were involved in various New York City political groups -- and I intentionally did not attend parties, picnics, dinners that otherwise appear to be "social events" because of the political connection.

As I understand it: before he checked into the hotel, Bob had the option of paying $10 more for the breakfast and he declined. Once he arrived at the hotel, he ate their breakfast anyway without paying for it.

Let's change the details: Bob is shopping for jacket. He finds 2 jackets in his size, a blue one and a brown one. Of the 2 jackets, he really prefers the blue one, but it's $10 more expensive than the brown one. So he takes the cheaper brown jacket to the store clerk, pays for it, and then when the clerk isn't looking he discreetly swaps the jackets. He walks out of the store with his fancy new blue jacket.

Would Bob Dancer ever sneak out of a clothing store with items he hadn't paid for? Of course not, he's not a thief!

*******************

Bob's clever breakfast shenanigan was unethical & dishonest. But I've watched a double feature at the movie theater for the price of one movie, so I can't be too self-righteous about this stuff. He who is without sin shall cast the first stone, et cetera et cetera et cetera.

I can relate to Bob's recent experiences with women. I think Bonnie is taking the worst of it with the pre-nup agreement. Say what you want to about Bob. But the man knows how to make money in the gambling world. So when the honeymoon is over he's going to be richer, but not her.

His in-laws are not to bright. I think I posted one time about a girl I was dating but when she found out what I did for a living I got dumped right on my butt. Well....after three years....she finally walked back into the bar the other night. I had some choice words for her:

"Do I look like I've missed a meal?"
"Do I look like a street tramp?"
"How do you like the clothes I'm wearing?"
"You probably went back to that loser ex-old man of yours. Didn't You? How'd that work out for you?"
"I ain't no chicken today feathers tomorrow gambler, sweetheart. I get paid every day."
"I'm gonna do what I do until the day I die, sweetheart. If you don't like it then you can stick it where the sun don't shine."

She finally responded.

"Well, maybe I jumped to the wrong conclusion."
"Maybe my ass" I said.
"Why didn't you call me?"
"My cell phone got wet. I lost your number" I lied. I have a little Axelwolf in me.
"Do you want my number now?"
"Yeah, give it here. And remember this, sweetheart. You aint ever gonna see this guy broke, asking for money, or any of that crap. There is absolutely no way in hell I would ever get any of that tarnish on my chrome finish."
"So how about dinner and a movie?"
"Yeah, that sounds good to me, sweetheart. Let's do it."

All in all a thought provoking thread. I don't think I would have eaten a breakfast without paying for it. But have I ever "bent" the rules of a Casino promotion ? Well maybe.

I think Bob was upfront in his article admitting that he knowingly was being dishonest. He came right out and said it. So I give him credit for that.

I agree and I'd like to add that he did pay $60 for the room. So it's not like he didn't give the place his business. Do all of us (any of us) declare our gambling wins (when there's no W2G)?

And another thing. There have been comments about his marriage and that he parted with Shirley because she couldn't dance with him anymore and couldn't tolerate the casino environment. People can marry for any reason they like. I'm sure people get married for companionship, loneliness and/or life long commitment. It is not for me to question their vows. Bob's biggest mistake is probably that he exposed his flaws. Perhaps he is stronger than most of us.

P.S. I just went to breakfast at Wendy's. I took several plastic forks to use for lunch at work.

Well I'm two days back from Wendover and $4800 lighter. I had the right beat on the progressive, but I had to get some shut-eye for a few hours a day at least. It was hit for $17k while I was dreaming about hitting it.

I did some reading in this thread after I asked for a self-suspension due to what looked like an "error" in posting on my part. I now have to take that back after reading what Mission and Wizard had to say about it.

Saying someone is "horrible" after admitting that they in fact are a thief and explaining their petty actions, is hardly an error in judgement. In fact, in another thread (I think it was Big Wins) I brought up the name of the guy who hit that $50,000 winner, and another poster immediately called him a "liar, fraud, etc.", probably out of frustration. As far as I can see, just like Mission said Mr. Dancer was not a member here, Mr. Singer isn't either.

Mr. Wizard, I respect your opinion about keeping a writer's female relations and friends out of the conversations, but you need to reconsider that point when & if the writer puts info about them in their article first. I said nothing degrading about either, and just expanded on their role within the article's parameters. I did look back at forum rules, and found nothing about your complaint. Therefore, just as I over-reacted in asking for a self-suspension, I now ask for a sensible elimination of that thin ice.

Mr. Singer was banned from WOV. Just like he has been banned from:

Videopoker.com forums
vpFREE forums
LVA forums
Alansbestbuy.com forums, although he just got reinstated here recently. So if you like following him that's the place to be....for now.

It's kind of funny. When the Revel "can't lose" fiasco was going on someone on vpFREE posted about the Revel thread here on WOV. I had never been on this site before. But I jumped over here and was reporting back to vpFREE'ers what I was finding out. Bob jumped on me for "jumping to conclusions." And he asked me "Do you know any of those yahoos on WOV?" Well I didn't at the time but I kept going though the WOV threads. It turned out for me that WOV is a hell of a lot more interesting forum that vpFREE. vpFREE is mostly video poker players. But here you have all types of gamblers. And I was amazed that you have casino execs posting, game designers posting, all of these amazing people.

I'm an AP in my own right. But I never quit trying to learn. There is a lot more to learn here than vpFREE. I don't think I've made a post over there in 3 months.

Just because Bob mentioned a GF doesn't mean it is suddenly open season on her. However, maybe I read too much into your remark. My advice is just to be safe and don't talk about anybody's mother, wife, sister, or GF.

I'm getting sick of this topic so if you agree to drop it I'll consider you on a 12" thick piece of ice.
