Make him mail you a SASE so the 88 cents in postage is on him.

But we understand rebates!

Mailing off a chunk of a cardboard carton and a receipt just to get back a dollar? Not likely to happen. I'll save the envelope and stamp for something better.

I do not think you have taken any offense to my comment, and I certainly do not mean to put you in a position of defending your action, as that is not my intent, nor desire.

I agree that once the second account was created, your action was exactly what was called for. Dual accounts are not allowed, and whether or not the poster knew that ahead of time, it should be common sense that if you have been suspended, creating a second account to circumvent that is indefensible.

Your last statement gets to the heart of my previous comments. This forum is more civil and mature than most others. Less is tolerated here. But new people coming in can not be expected to understand that, as it is not the 'normal' for forums. Hence, I think some modicum of leniency could be granted to a new member who crosses the civility line. I would perhaps go so far as say, a warning should be issued to a new member who is guilty of minor violations, like a minor insult. Really nasty personal insults should get an immediate suspension, since most of the time, anyone who is a new member and resorts to that in their first posts, will likely continue that behavior, and end up suspended anyway.

But the above should only be granted to new members. Those who have been around for a while already understand what the expected behavior is, and should they cross the line, no warning should be given, nor expected.

Buzz, would you like me to PM my address so I can get my $.01 refund?

That's what I mean. Women don't know the difference between a gamble and a rebate.

But then again , a man who says he understands women, will lie about other things too !

I'm new and I didn't read the rules. No need to. You act as if you were invited to someones home when you join a community. Be polite and show respect. It's really that easy. I admin a site and I tell them, if you were in my living room would I be asking you to leave? That's the question I use on whether I ban/suspend them or not.

This is a fair attitude.

I rarely read the rules or fine print of contracts. I think most people are the same.

I also tend to behave myself.

However, if i got suspended, I more likely than not would have gone to check the rules before returning and/or attempt to contact an administrator to ask why, before simple using a new account to post.

I think most of us here agree with you on those points, DJ. I have a feeling the poster would have been a goner later anyway. OTOH, if he would have been a good member, I hope he comes in again, behaves himself/herself, and this all becomes a bad memory.

I need new members to discuss craps. Some old members have me blocked. LOL

There is usually a lead up to a banning that deserves a warning so I usually quote their post followed by the rule they've broken and point out the code of conduct with a link to it. If at that point you don't get an apology or you get another rude post it's bye bye. We have a mod who loves to do the dirty work so I hand it off to him to tell the guy off and suspend them.

Yes, we've been established since 2005 and most members know the policies and police themselves for the most part. Warnings by them go out to the newbies before I even get to it 9 out of 10 times.

We do have a committee forum for only mods and admins to discuss problem members, but we arrive at action based on consensus. We've been together for so long everyone usually knows what the answer is going to be before we discuss it.

edit:I guess the answer would then be yes and no. If you are a troublemaker you are not going to be treated too well.

I'd say a ban of a couple days isn't a big enough deal to need a warning, especially for multiple offenses. And sockpuppetry, especially to evade a ban, is something that shouldn't need a warning, like spamming or DDoS.

It's been proven that public flogging is far more effective, LOL.(I have no scientific proof) Nothing keeps a troublemaker in line like ridicule(in this case a reprimand citing the code of conduct). The troll wants to get banned so he can assume another identity and continue to bully. By not banning him, he must show his ugly face exposed to the whole community. I can tell you it is very effective. So they generally don't come back and even sometimes become contributing members. Like when the bully gets punched in the face the first time, he gives that guy respect. Although it's pretty rare.

Ha ha! Nobody is treated equally anywhere. I was a member here for months before I ever posted. That's common practice for me as it allows me to see who"s who and what's what. I knew the rules without ever reading them. Hell, I was suspended for 5 days for a "personal insult". I called it like I saw it. I took it like a man even though I thought 5 days was a little severe for a first offense. No problem, I now know that if I say a guy is acting like a dick, I'll get sent to the corner. I have no problem with that. Rules are rules. If I don't like them, I can start my own forum. I don't even have a clue about how to do that so I'll try and not make that mistake again.
