Vegas tried being Disneyland once and it was an epic fail. Get back to basics, we are an adult playground. High end shops and restaurants are nice but give a few alternatives besides a coffee shop or buffet. Give the public a fair game and decent comps. People will come and spend money.

Maybe Vegas needs to reinvent itself a little, but do you really think that the spreading of casino gambling is going to take the "Vegas" out of Vegas, and that trying the family-friendly thing again is the way to get it back? If Vegas is good at anything, it's reinventing itself.
I agree that the spread of gambling will dilute Vegas's haul market share, but I don't think Vegas will lose what makes it "Vegas." You can visit other casinos, but as a radio guy said here in Dallas, "Shreveport is no Vegas." (He also said "Ardmore is no Shreveport," which I thought was funny!) There's always something special about Vegas that you don't get in New Orleans or Mississippi or Atlantic City. Those places seemed like more convenience-oriented than destination-oriented. Vegas will always tickle your tummy when you land at the airport!

I could see the attraction of seeing the bright lights of LV from a
good vantage point like that. But the artist's picture doesn't make
it look like much of a place, does it ?
Anyway, it seems to me that a Ferris wheel makes at least as
much sense as a roller coaster on NYNY.

Are you kidding? That's bigger than the London Eye. I'd be pretty nervous being on top of a 500' Ferris wheel during an earthquake - much more nervous than I was on the 22nd floor of the Mirage during the Landers quake of 1992. (That was a fun ride, though.)

That would actually be sort of neat (though I would never go in there -- most nudists I've seen are a hodgepodge of everyone you meet on the street - although the cocktail hosting could be awesome)

Have you ever been to a nudist beach? Try to picture your average tourist without their clothes on. One of my favorite Johnny Carson lines was If you go to a nude beach, you will see naked people that should be prohibited by law from being naked in the privacy of their own home.

I would lay good money the amusement park doesn't happen. Personally, I think a water park makes more sense.

I would think something more grandiose would be effective, like a six flags park. Something with some real "thrill" rides as opposed to the common travelling festival type rides. A water park would be nice but would it attract anyone but the spouses of gamblers or the children for the day?

I wonder about the heat in one of the pods when it is it 115 degrees on a summer day.
If the Las Vegas wheel were 500 ft. in diameter, it would be the biggest in the world by 8 ft. The tallest wheel and structure is the Singapore Flyer, which is located near the Sands Marina hotel / casino complex. At its peak, folks in the pods are 165m above the ground, the equivalent of a 42 story building. The Singapore structure is 30m taller than the London Eye.
If the Stratosphere wants to lay claim to an easy world record, they should install a small wheel (like the 12 bench type you see at the state fair) on the roof of the tower. That would instantly make it the tallest ferris wheel in the world, since the combined wheel + the structure is the given measure.
Like the Wizard, I doubt it is going to get built. The "Desperado" roller coaster at Buffalo Bills in Primm may not be the world's fastest, nor the world's highest, but it does provide plenty of thrills, including a 4g bottom turn, and vibrations strong enough to pop your kidneys. I suspect a big reason for the shaking is being exposed to the extreme heat, wind, dust and cold of the Nevada desert. Unfortunately, it did not do much to attract gamblers, as the property has changed hands a few times since in bankrupcy.

I agree that it would most certainly be a sin to have a nudisty casino resort. First, where do you put your wallet :) Second, have you looked around a casino to see what the people actually look like? Not just the ones that you like, all of them. OMG! Just south of Mandibay puts this 40 story wheel right at the end of the long runways of McCarran. Indeed, it should be an interesting ride.

Perhaps it will actually get built rather than just be some sort of Vapor Park.
I think its just more of the "well, we can't get real gamblers here anymore, so let's get vacationers who will eat, drink, gawk, go to arcades, nightclubs and pools ... and maybe, just maybe, some of them will somehow magically want to show up in the casino with some money rather than just a suntan."

If someone does an Airport movie (not impossible now that the "Airplane!" movies have been largely forgotten), they can have the A-380 (what else?) crash into the ferris wheel. Airport 2014: Crash of the Colossi :P
Seriously, it's a very bad spot for a tall structure. Too far from the other end of the Strip, just as the Stratosphere tower is too far to the other end. Nearer the center would be ideal. Something to think about when Paris gets imploded in ten years or so :P (it must be Friday and I must be happy to make so many cliche jokes in one post).
