This is my all time favorite quotation. I came across it decades ago and have every word of it tatooed on my psyche. More truth in one paragraph than I've ever come across.

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race” Calvin Coolidge

The people who win are the people who never give up. Persistence is the most powerful force in nature, and the one usually ignored by most people.

"Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety nine percent perspiration." Attributed to Thomas A. Edison.

Changing tracks now:

"But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. " Thomas Jefferson.

Actually, that's "Ninety percent of success is just showing up."

Hmmm.... The internet has Woody saying it both ways.

My personal favorite of his would be: "I don't want to achieve immortality through my work, I want to achieve it through not dying."

Countess Alexandrovna: You are the greatest lover I've ever had.
Boris: Well, I practice a lot when I'm alone.

Sonja: Oh don't, Boris, please. Sex without love is an empty experience.
Boris: Yes, but as empty experiences go, it's one of the best.

"Greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clairifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evoultionary spirit. Greed in all of its forms. Greed for life, for money, for love, for knowlege has marked the upward surge of mankind and greed you mark my words will not only save Teldar Paper but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

Perhaps the best quote of all time, should be remembered when some politician complains about "greedy rich people" that without greed nothing would have been improved since the caveman days.

Every public word Winston Churchill uttered.

"But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new dark age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science. Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, This was their finest hour."

"I see it all perfectly. There are two possible situations. One can do this or that. My honest opinion and friendly advice is this: Do it or do not do it, you will regret both" - Soren Kierkegaard (good for deciding to call a re-raise with low pocket pair)

"We almost always see where our best interests lies, I think, but sometimes what we see means very little compared to what we feel - Steven King's "Hearts in Atlantis" (helps deal with the pain of playing slots/roulette/insert game of ire of your choice here)

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victim's may be the most oppresive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busibodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis (I was reminded of this after reading the 'Gripes' section about being hassled for gambling =))

"The most frightening words in the english language are 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help'" - Ronald Reagan (I'm from NY. Enough said)
