I wasn't impressed by either The Orleans or the Rio.

I found the Rio to be annoyingly loud and the arial show to be an unwanted distraction. I was very disappointed by the poker room considering they are the home of the WSOP (I was there shortly after the first time they hosted it).

I went to the Orleans the same day and found the food to be sub-par (I ate at some oyster bar), and the staff to be generally unfriendly. I have heard from many who disagree, so maybe mine was just an isolated experience.

I haven't returned to either casino, and since they are not conveniently located for a tourist like me, I probably won't. This was several years ago, so they may have made changes since.

BTW, I don't think I was just having a bad day because I also visited the Palms that day and had a blast.

I despise Excalibur. Hate the theme and the food pretty much stinks. Mostly, though, I always end up getting lost in there...usually on the "midway" level trying to find the casino escalators after I get off the tram from Luxor and Excalibur. I avoid that place like the plague.

Ditto on getting lost on the midway level, and especially on the food.

However, when you're looking for some place near MGM with $5 minimums on the weekend, I think it's an acceptable place to play--better than the Trop. The theme doesn't bother me too much.

I don't like the Imperial Palace. The casino is ok in an average sort of way, but when the celebrity impersonators in the center pit do an act you can hear the music clear across the casino. Worse, the pit is in front of the casino cage, where safe deposit boxes are kept.

I stayed there last time and that was my only complaint. I'll probably stay there again next year, it's a really good deal, has a good location and the walk from room to Strip is reasonably short. The good news is there are plenty of other, quieter casinos within walking distance.

Red Rock. Host never showed up after sending a ride for us. Players were taking Oxygen rather than drinks. Croupiers and Dealers were surly, because patrons never seemed to tip. Too big. Wide open.

Well, that's a pretty good reason!

I keep saying I won't go back to the Venetian, but I keep going. The sicky-sweet fragrance they pump out, I guess to cover up the smoke smell, gives me an instant headache. The headache hits me in the parking garage elevator.

My favorite strip Casino: The Wynn/Encore.
My least favorite strip Casino: Excalibur (too dark / dingy / staff surly).
My least favorite high end strip Casino: Venetian - Air has too much perfume.

The Venetian. The casino always smells like those purple cakes they used to put in urinals, whats up with that. NYNY is too dark. Trop's ceilings are too low and its smoky. Circus Circus is a dump.

MGM Grand. Just simply too large and impersonal.

I'm a little funny on casinos. I think of a too-nice casino just likle I think of those too-fancy car-lots you see these days. "If they can afford this I must not be getting a good deal!"

Instead of paying for fancy artwork, pay me 2:1 on blacjkacks before 3:00 PM

That is a funny/astute comparison. Agree on overly scented casinos in general. I dislike IP for all the reasons mentioned, plus it has the worst Strip frontage of any casino. "Let's put a parking garage right out front and make getting to the casino as awkward and smelly as possible."

I second Circus Circus/ Slots o Fun, they are way out north, don't have much of an attraction (although the Stratosphere tower is barely one anyway!) and have lousy gaming, and the place really stinks!

Agreed! For some reason I just really like going to casinos. I'm not a huge gambler. I just like experiencing new ones. I've been to almost every casino in the Vegas area. My least favorite casino is whichever one gives me poor treatment. As of this writing, the last place to do that was Grand Victoria, Elgin, Illinois, so I would have to say that for now.

The casino at IP is way too noisy. It also feels too cramped.

I mostly dislike all Harrah's casinos for the six card bonus bet at three card poker, but I like the ambiance at Bally's.

I loathe the Monte Carlo.
It stinks: not just of pefume: more like the stench of loss and B.O.

There is absolutely nothing uniquely "cool" about that joint.

I'll post an opposing view point on Red Rock. Not too crowded, a little out of the way, but in a very scenic area.
Also, don't they have 100 % + Dueces Wild VP ? So I like it there.

I absolutely HATE the Palms, especially during the weekend when THUMPA THUMPA THUMPA the techno urban thug soundtrack is THUMPA THUMPA THUMPA turned waaaaaaay up and all the underage bimbettes in little black THUMPA THUMPA THUMPA dresses are staggering around giggling.

I dislike the Excalibur and Luxor (which are the same property IMHO), as well as Mandalay Bay, because their gambling is and always has been a ripoff.

I enjoy the El Cortez, because the gambling is good, the comps are great, and where else can you get the experience of gambling in a leper colony?

Trump's Taj Mahal in Atlantic City used to be stunningly bad. I called is "Barney" because it was a purple dinosaur. They've remodeled the place but it's still cardboard and papier-mâché and looks cheap even by Atlantic City standards. I went in there recently to complete my collection of Atlantic City gambling club cards. I wish I hadn't.

The only thing making Trump's Taj Mahal even approachable is its unfortunate placement next to the marginally less cheesy Resorts and Showboat. When going to Atlantic City, try to stay away from any Trump property. His properties are as fake as his hair.

Circus Circus - cramped and full of young kids and the type of trailer park people who lug huge coolers upstairs to open up their own bar in their room. Find a National Park and go camping, people!

I like the Steakhouse, however. A couple years ago, I heard this was a nice place (I had never been to Circus Circus) and so I made reservations for my wife and I to spend her birthday at the steakhouse. We were staying at the Bellagio. She dressed up all nice, and we took a taxi up the street to the CC, but we were aghast when we pulled up to the front door of our destination. She immediately covered herself up in my suit coat (she was dressed to the nines in a cocktail dress) and took the loooooooong walk with me back to the restaurant, surrounded by screaming bratty kids, strollers, and assorted obese people waddling about aimlessly in short pants and t-shirts.

I may never be forgiven for that "walk of shame." The food was good, though.

What is it you didn't like s2d? I've been there and to Trump Marina and I really liked the Taj. Of course though I will state that I valet my car because some of the people hanging out by the front are pretty scary.
What casino do you recommend for me next time I go to Atlantic City? Can't be Harrahs owned though.

More than scary. They're fatal. A couple recently murdered a guy dropping off his family and going to the self-park garage. Security at the Taj Mahal is, ahem, minimal at best.

As far as other casinos, if you 86 Harrahs and don't want to deal with Colony's two disasters, that leaves the Borgata and the Tropicana.

I have to disagree with you on this one, especially about Mandalay Bay and the gaming ripoff. Mandalay Bay (at least the last time I was there in Feb.) has a bank of BJ tables (6-deck) that S17 and offer surrender. The time I played (early morning, on a Tuesday) the table mins in this pit were 10 and 15.

Also, Excalibur is one of the few places in Vegas that still offers Spanish. While the game's rules are not as good as others, it's not a bad bet if played properly. Granted, I got creamed on the table, but the cards just weren't running in my favor.

I'd have to say in Vegas my least favorite casino is Bellagio for playing (those dealers are the worst!) and probably IP overall. Favorites include Bally's/Paris (good bonus paytable on Ultimate Hold Em) and New York-New York (I could walk around that place for hours and never be bored, but I don't play there much).

The overall worst ever in my opinion was in St. Louis, the President Casino. That place is TRULY scary, on a boat that moved with the slightest wave, and you had to pay to get on the first time and pay for parking. It's closed now, thank goodness, but if you were gambling there, you reached rock bottom!
