How would you possibly prove you were infected on a flight?

The only way I know of, is that they can decode the RNA and trace back the strain through spreaders, if they can identify everyone somebody came in contact with. The strands the virus injects are not necessarily identical. They mutate and those minute changes can be compared and charted.

I think they're going to find, though maybe not in our lifetimes, that it's genetics which determine how sick you get, and whether you survive exposure.

Epigenetics.

New Orleans is having a new problem

I think they're going to find, though maybe not in our lifetimes, that it's genetics which determine how sick you get, and whether you survive exposure.

This virus invades the cells with keys that zero in on and unlock respiratory cells, changing their DNA with MRNA strings. They replace pieces or strings of chromosomes with their own sequences that disrupt the cell, cannibalizing it while replicating itself.

The interruption of the invasion comes on the cellular antibody level. So your body's defenses have to be cued to kick in at an early enough and vigorous enough rate to overwhelm it before it destroys too many pulmonary cells. Those rates, both time and quantity, are going to vary widely, and a lot of that is going to be genetically programmed, then influenced by environmental and health history factors, by individuals and by family.

My theory, but based on a fair amount of hard science.

I have a feeling that viral load might be a bigger factor in the differences in severity.

It would also explain why many young healthy doctors seem to be getting very ill from it.

I wonder if perhaps more viruses and bacterias will or could be snuffed with such a thing as a global shutdown, wonder if this could basically make some diseases extinct. On more thought, there are many samples out there which could re-release pathogens, so it'll not happen.

Tough one to read about NYC, it's very frightening to think about the havoc we haven't seen. I feel safe, thought I was sick, but not anymore. Haven't been to crowded places in 2 weeks, don't want to see this for anyone I love, hoping it won't happen here.

I read today that there are 8 different strains of Covid-19, so that geneticists are able to decode the DNA of a patient's virus (it takes less than 1 hour) and know which strain the patient has. So far, they say that all 8 strains have the same lethality but it allows them to trace the spread/transmission.

For instance, they have determined that Florida has been infected by the type of Covid-19 strain that NYC area has and that Europe has. It went from China to Europe to New Rochelle to NYC to Florida.

California has the same strain as Washington- this strain traveled directly from Wuhan to Washington St and is not generally found in Europe.

Covid-19 keeps mutating -that's why there are 8 strains. The type that was transmitted from China was already its 2nd mutation, i.e., its third strain.
So many better men, a few of them friends, are dead. And a thousand thousand slimy things live on, and so do I.

Fortunately these viruses almost always mutate to become less severe.

My girlfriend at Ground Zero Washington has now collected 32 recovered people (including herself) to repeatedly donate blood and participate in the studies on developing treatment and vaccines. They're starting 2 new studies tomorrow, though she's already involved in 3 others .

The first person to congratulate her is my friend who is leading the US Military investigation team at their virus lab. She calls her a welcome miracle. I call her a Godsend.

I have great friends.

My sister and her family have likely all had it, with my sister being last. She texted last night that she just lost her sense of taste and smell. She had a fever the day before. Her husband and 3 sons have all had a variety of similar symptoms over the past two weeks. I told my sister she needs to be tested, and she asked why? I told her that if she is positive she and her family absolutely shouldn't go to the supermarket, gas station, etc. Also... I told them they would be able to help by being antibody donors like your friends. She is going to be tested today. I am very happy for them that they all seemed to have mild cases.

I think that is the link to an article about one of my partners and my hospital. It would be me had I not retired in September.

I posted it somewhere last Thursday or so, since then we have a definite trend to wanting to open back up for business. It seems this will be the news this week, when and how.

May 1 is looking like an ideal date. Question is will it be in phases and will any states want to stay closed? Other question is how do the big casinos open? At the least they have to order a lot of food if their restaurants are to open. I think maybe you see them open in phases over a week maybe two.

My guess is they will phase it in over one week.

You are probably right, two at the outside. They will all lose some employees for one reason or another. Over a month they probably have 3-5% turnover no matter what. Dealers will be rusty. Nothing to bet at the sportsbook at the moment (cricket is not something to bet on, either.)

I predict Oklahoma will stay closed well past May 1st. Our peak isn't even projected until April 25th or 26th. I think there'll be some phased openings starting May 15th at the absolute earliest, with the majority of the State opening back up in June.

Now this may result in a lawsuit against the state

https://abcnews.go.com/US/philadelphia-police-drag-man-mask-off-public-bus/story?id=70104383

No arrest or crime. Police dragged a man off a city bus for not wearing a mask.

Septa had initiated a policy that masks must be worn at all times due to the pandemic

The outcry has caused them to eliminate that policy

The article states the bus driver called police because the passenger was unruly. Was he unruly and not wearing a mask, or was his not wearing a mask what made him unruly? Based on his behaviour in the video, I have no idea.

He wasn't charged with disorderly conduct. Sounds like his refusal to wear a mask made him an unruly passenger
