Man, do I feel my mortality. I had three very close friends in high school. Ryan (his real name was Patrick), Johnny Weismueller, Jr., Bob Broder whose father owned The California Racket Club, and myself. John Jr. died 17 years ago. Don't know about Bob. After HS, we all went our separate ways and rarely saw each other.
I am saddened.

I talk to a couple via Facebook now and then. One I was good friends with drifted apart in the 1990s. Went on a date with a girl from HS who found me there. I still for the life of me cannot remember her, but she seemed to remember me. Might have been a case of "I should have went out with him back then" but who knows. I think she found an older guy.

A lot of famous people died this year. Some of them surprised me I didn't know they were gone. I grew up watching a lot of these people. So many of them were born in the 1930s.

My son informed me that Andre Braugher had died. I loved his character on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
I was a big fan in high school of the absurdist humor that Paul Reubens created through Pee-Wee Herman, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. I felt like I was in on the joke that this character was for adults and not children.

Richard Lewis’ official cause of death confirmed days after comedian’s passing
I am familiar with Lewis only for his role on Curb Your Enthusiasm. I watched S12, E3 recently where he told Larry David that he had put him in his will, and they were arguing over which one of them might live longer. Lewis hasn't looked very healthy in years, and was a recovering alcoholic. So Larry was right (so far) when he argued that "I'm going to outlive you by 20 years!"
Here is an appearance Lewis made in Seinfeld, which I never watched Seinfeld regularly but I found this today online.

As to a personal connection, I recall trying to bet on a guilty verdict, but nobody would take my action. It's easy to say in retrospect I'm glad they didn't. I lived in Baltimore at the time, which is already a racially charged city. The whole trial divided everybody right down racial lines. Interracial friendships were difficult at the time.
Years later, he was sitting about four rows ahead of me at a Golden Knights game. He was with white friends and seeming to have a good time while not paying much attention to the game. They all left about half way through.

I was working in corporate travel outside of Baltimore at the time. The phones died during the verdict announcement.
After the verdict I remember White employees quite upset while Black employees quite pleased

OJ wanted to recover his property and hide it from the Goldmans' judgment, and yes there were elements of kidnapping ("Nobody leaves the room!") involved, but in California, you can't be convicted of stealing your own property, which would have defeated at least the theft aspect, or robbery.
Robbery is a specific intent crime - you must have the intent to take the property of another - that does not belong to you. At common law, if the property is your own, that defeats the specific intent required to "rob" in the first place. At common law, there must be an "unlawful taking" to even get to robbery. But in Nevada, that sort of common law definition of robbery doesn't apply. In California, and other states, it does.
So if you go beat someone up to get back say your cell phone that he just robbed you of, grabbed out of your hands, you cannot be guilty of robbery in most states. Even if you pull a gun to get your phone back, still, the end crime with which you would be charged would not be robbery - it might be some kind of assault with a deadly weapon type thing, or brandishing a firearm, etc. At least not in any state that follows the common law.
Now who is going to go to all that over a phone, but if say some jeweler is walking out of a convention with a briefcase full of diamonds and some punk grabs his case and runs, the jeweler is not going to be guilty of robbery pretty much no matter what he does if he chases down the thief to recover the case. In most states.
