I guess this guy couldn't be a moderator could he, doesn't sound like a very jovial type!

In any case, I'm just saying that if I became a moderator I'd act differently. By that I mean - differently from the way I act as a regular member. (Not that I would want to be one, nor would expect to be accepted as one if I did want to be one.) People should rise to the occasion.

It seems to me that Moderation of the Forum is pretty well under control as it is, at least, in my opinion.

The only thing that carries weight is the rules are whatever the Administrator interprets them to be.

I do TRY to apply the rules fairly. I'll reveal a little non-secret: I go out of my way to be lenient. More so than Wizard, when dealing with personal insults, and less lenient when someone tries to push the envelope with repeated non-rule breaking little digs.
While we are doing secrets: I've been invited a few times to nuke certain members, or asked my opinion on likely nukes, and I almost always discourage it. I've also firmly advocated against the cruel punishment of 'Martying him to oblivion'
I used to specialise in company feedback surveys and I learned there that the most useful feedback is negative feedback, so I will always take that on board, in forum or in PM. Minor insults to me will likely just make me chuckle. But insult the very ethos of the forum, or its members generally, and I might just wade in. I saw this thread as a sly insult to the forum when it was originally posted and its bumping today as an act of mischief. Call me cynical, but I read between the lines.

As far as level playing fields go, life is not a level playing field. If you want to know the truth, I think that OnceDear has exercised the same restraint that I did (when an Admin) as it pertains to NOT banning people for stuff said directly to him and not asking for another Admin to do it for him.

Cheers Mission. It's an unwritten policy. I think I show restraint often in NOT banning for anything where I can justify not doing so.

A Moderator should do whatever the hell a Moderator wants to do because he's not being paid. That would be like the soup kitchen complaining that I don't wash dishes and make the salads fast enough when I volunteer there.

I slightly disagree. Wizard gives me considerable discretion and I TRY to moderate without applying my own bias as to the poster. But that self restraint in applying my ban hammer is counter-balanced by my running free with posting my opinions as a member. So. NO I don't even try to be impartial.
So, where you disagree with my 'biased' or 'splenetic' posting, don't be afraid to 'get into it with' me ( or better yet, attack my post ). Many's the time I felt like just pressing Nuke and I've held back..... Well. MOSTLY.

Stay safe, y'all.
Beware. The earth is NOT flat. Hit and run is not a winning strategy: Pressing into trends IS not a winning strategy: Progressives are not a winning strategy: Don't Buy It! .Don't even take it for free.

I do agree that the kindler, gentler OnceDear (for about a year and a half now, has it been?) lays down the suspensions much more lightly.

It's not hard to control twelve people!

Indeed. The tricky bit was to drive down the membership to that comfortable level.

Shouldn't bringing something from one of your other threads to this one be suspension worthy.

Don't ask me. I'm the one that brought up 'I Claudius' again :o) For which Hijack, I apologise.

As to my input: How does one Hijack one's own thread, though? which my input was moderately on subject anyway, as it related to the deadness of the forum, opining that people here aren't really happening, etc.

As to OD's input: I didn't mind.
