7 star member charged $160 at Caesars during CES. Heard it on VSIN. He eventually got reimbursed but it was not easy. The conversation was recorded with the parking attendant and patron, lol.

I don't have a link, it was on VSIN this morning involving a guy who regularly host the show. I think his name is Bill Crakenburger or something like that. I think Mitch and Pauly replayed it during their Follow the Money segment so if you have a way to replay today's segment you can listen to it..

Was the attempted extortion on the way in or the way out?

If it's on the way in, have to either turn around and walk / uber it or just accept that you have to jump through the hoops.

But since he was being charged for a 90 minutes, it means this could only happen as he's leaving (otherwise they wouldn't know the length of his visit) just say "I don't have $160." Then show them their online parking rate quotes, that say no charge for that level. What can they do?

Not sure, I haven't lived in Vegas since 2012, this parking fee at that casinos is new to me so I dont know the rules about how they validate. I currently live in Reno and everything is free.

I agree this sounds strange.

The only situation I can think of where this is plausible is if someone parked in a 7 stars area using a card that did not belong to them.

Even if that were true, 90 minutes for $160 still amounts to extortion.

I’ve never had an issue with parking at CET properties using a diamond card. There was 1 or 2 occasions where they asked for my ID along with the card at the gate.

Have you ever been to Vegas during CES? I doubt it because it's hard to get a room, almost every hotel is sold out and all the restaurants are packed. Largest convention in Vegas.

So they jack up every parking garage price so high that 90 mins costs $160?

I still do not understand

And here's the link to the Twitter post of the original video of the automated parking bandit episode. This one has the 28 second audio of the "aw shucks I dunno" interaction with the voice of the Caesars Parking Centurion who was guarding the Palace exit, apparently to keep at least some less assertive Seven Stars peasants from escaping with their fillings & their clothes:

Krackman is a well respected sharp in the sports betting industry. Surprising to see he went tout, although with all the books banning everyone who gets a good number a few times in a row, I can't blame him.

Speaking very generally, from everything I've seen I tend to think someone usually becomes Seven Stars from doing a whole lot of things that may not all be equally 'sharp' & may often amount to some major chronic money spewing leaky misadventures, regardless of whatever else they may do. And in any case certainly can't be anonymous, of course.

But I didn't intend to imply some criticism of the guy behind this incident and his public Tweetcast of it, if it sounded that way. I think the collectively mindless frothy gas cloud noisemaking beast that inhabits the soul of the web just is what it is, and does what it does without stopping for direction or sleep. And if this gets around enough to become a bit of "A Thing" in the virtual world to make the LV Convention and Visitor Authority pee their pants a little over the corrosive effect on marketing The Strip, then good, I'm all for that; this crap SHOULD be biting the business in the assets.

And if a few extra coins also fall into this gent's pocket as a side effect of that useful public service, then from where I sit I've got no complaint about that. Just an observation about the way of the world.

I currently live in Reno and everything is free.

Best solution to CES and March Madness, etc. Reno is sort of a Vegas 'DeadWeek' 52 weeks a year.

Reno is definitely not like Vegas, that's what makes it so great. You dont get the crowds and most importantly the ridiculous gouging these casino and restaurant properties keep charging everyone. I use to love Vegas, thought it was the best city to live in the US that suited my lifestyle Having lived there for over a decade, compared to Reno, I much prefer it up here. Love the Sieeras, Lake Tahoe and a handful of events that the city hosts such as the Nuggett Rib Cookoff, # 1 rib event in the US. Or the #1 Nostalgiic car show called Hot Aug Night. Although the city was overtaken this week by the Safari Club convention , still a great place to live and play where the parking is free. And if you visit and rent a car, you can return your rental car, go thru security and be at your gate in 10 Minutes!

How are the winters? I've never been to northern Nevada. Was hoping to get there this fall, but plans fell through. My plan when I left NY was to never see snow except at a distance.

Fall weather is great. We do have winters, Reno is at 4500 feet, with the Sierra backdrop just minutes away. You can be at 9000 ft in 20 minutes. We do get snow several times a year.. Reno reminds me of Europe, small city below the Alps. Its beautiful during the winter, the foothills and snow capped mountains as our backdrop.

A guy I met in Laughlin lives there about 7 months and spends the summer about an hour north of Reno. It's up in the Humboldt River Valley area. He goes to Reno on a few overnights. He prefers Laughlin to Reno.
I'm considering doing something like that.
