My Mom when I was a little kid told me spinach would make me strong like Popeye The Sailorman. I ate it with glee and DIDN'T become strong like Popeye. :/ ;) Mom was a trickster. ;) :/ One thing for sure is that Popeye led to healthy eating habits(Spinach) ;)

My mother gave me a guilt trip over the starving kids in Ethiopia every time I didn't want to eat everything on my plate. I still don't understand how me over-eating something I didn't like benefited those kids.

I knew I had this picture somewhere with another handsome forum member. Note the tattoo on Popeye's left arm. Click on image for larger version.

Wow, is that University of Buffalo on the forum member's shirt?
So many better men, a few of them friends, are dead. And a thousand thousand slimy things live on, and so do I.

Yes, it is. Probably narrows down who it is.

Trivia Time! What are the tattoos of on Popeye's arms? No searching!

Not searched. I seem to recall an anchor.

The whole thing about spinach being good for you is entangled in a super-myth. That is, a myth about a myth.
http://super-myths.blogspot.com/2010/12/spinach-iron-decimal-point-error-myth.html

"Time Line for Spinach Popeye Iron Decimal Error Myth Busting

1871 Von Wolff’s bad science exaggerated spinach iron content
1892 - Switzerland - the German Von Bunge gets it right
1907 - USA - Sherman explains 19th Century bad science
1920 - Germany - Noorden & Salomon still citing old German bad science
1972 - UK - Bender publishes spinach Popeye iron decimal error myth
1981 - UK - Hamblin braces Bender’s myth
2010 - UK Sutton proves Popeye ate spinach for vitamin A and never for iron
2010 - UK Sutton busts spinach iron decimal error myth - Proving that many German chemists had it wrong in the 1920's, whilst at least one German and several American scientists had it right. Later, it is possible that Popeye movies and comic strips might have accidentally confused the public about spinach being a good source of iron.
2011 - UK Sutton shows that US spinach production did indeed increase by 33 per cent in 1936"

Popeye was certainly (ab)used as a role model for encouraging kids to eat spinach. High in Vitamin A, not Iron!
