Just signed up for this, seems way too good to be true.
$9.95 a month for one movie a day.

I saw this in the news. I didn't read much into it, because I also thought there had to be some sort of catch. I mean hell, movies generally cost more than that for a single ticket. Let us know your results.
I got a plan, we take all your picks we reverse them like one of those twilight zone episodes where everything is the opposite. You say "black" we go white.

As long as the business exists, only regular movies- no Imax, 3D, etc.
4,000 theaters nationwide.

I ordered one for Mrs. Q and me way back when I first saw this. Cards finally arrived, they were overwhelmed by the # of orders.

Anyway, the cards work as advertised, we saw "mother!" and the ticket would have been $ 10 normally (it is one of the deluxe theaters with the large lounge chairs that recline and have foot rests).

I'm not sure how long this will last before the company collapses. It doesn't seem like a business model that can survive. But until then, I'll go to the movies with Mrs Q. She likes the movies, I like a good value.

- We also saw the new "KINGSMAN" movie (before our cards came in the mail) and enjoyed it. Same style as the first.

The theatre industry is going to need to pivot pretty quickly in the next few years to survive streaming media. This seems like a good start. Anytime I go to the theatre it’s rarely crowded. The only times I remember seeing a full house have been the premiere of Quentin Tarantino films. Assuming a regular movie ticket is $10, I doubt the average person buying this subscriptions goes to 12 movies a year before getting the pass. Not a bad way to start filling those empty seats.

Sigh - I typed out this reply (slightly longer) and hit post, but the site is so awful right now it timed out and I couldn't hit back to what I typed... waste of time.

Movie Theaters have been shooting their future in the foot for years and years. $10-$15 for a ticket, then if you want any kind of overpriced snacks/drinks you're going to spend another $10-$15. You can sheer a sheep many times, but skin them only once. Their short term greed of "F it, double the prices. Who cares if we lose 35% of our customers, we'll make more money with the double prices anyways!" is finally showing revenue LOSSES because hey, you can't just piss all your customers off, idiots.

I also hate the "up sell" they throw at your face every time. I only go to the movies on the discount day a couple near me have where it's cheap ($5). Every now and then I'll just get a blue icee, and when I went last I got up to the counter and the cashier just said "Do you want a large popcorn or large drink or both?" ...I had to pause and awkwardly just say "Neither, I just want a medium icee." To which she looked sad and then held up the large cup and said "But you can get a large icee for $X more!" to which again I had to just say "nah, just the medium icee is fine for me" and again she looked sad/upset with me. Pretty annoying. This is why I simply stream my movies, and "occasionally" go to the theater where I sneak in my own snacks and only go on discount night.

I actually think this business model will work for a few reasons:

a) They're drumming up a customer base with a 'good deal'
b) They're proving the model and bringing value to the theaters (more customers = more overpriced food/drink sales). This in turn will lead to higher profit margins in the future.
c) How many "good" movies are you excited to see per year? MAYBE a dozen? Probably not even that many... When someone gets this ticket they'll probably go see the 2-3 movies that are out now that they're excited about, and then it'll be months before the next 'batch' of movies come out and they have more they're interested in.
d) Like most subscriptions, they're going to be leveraging the people whom sign up, never cancel, and never go to the theaters either.

I think I'll copy this text, just in case the site lags out on me again so I don't have to retype it... again.
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

I haven't been to a theatre in nearly 20 years. If I want to watch something, I'll wait until it's out on DVD, then go borrow it for FREE from the library.

So far, so good still with the moviepass. I think we're going to go see "Only the Brave" tonight. What's not to love about Josh Brolin ? 90 % on Rottentomatoes.com, but I've been burned on that in the past.

Jq, how many are you seeing a month. I was going to buy it on friday because we were going to see a movie but then realized you have to wait for the card to come in the mail. I ended up not buying it and not seeing a movie. In theory this seems like a good idea but I would need to see 3 movies per month to make it worth it since we generally see the early movie for $5. It would be nice to see a late movie here and there. I bet the frust month we would see 3 or 4 but then in months 3 and 4 I bet we see none.
Expect the worst and you will never be disappointed. I AM NOT PART OF GWAE RADIO SHOW

I was hesitant to buy, as I go to a lot of $4 matinees , but gave it a shot. It's nice having the freedom to not have to limit your times. I was in a casino the other day and noticed a movie playing that I thought was already out of theatres.

Jq, how many are you seeing a month.

Mrs Q has a stressful job with long hours, so she enjoys escaping to the movies. We probably see about 1.5 movies per week. ONLY THE BRAVE was a great movie about the Granite Mountain Hotshot forest fire fighters. Josh Brolin and Jeff Bridges do a nice job.

Movies here at the deluxe theater with the giant lazy boy type motorized reclining seats are $ 10, $ 5 on Tuesdays. The place was pretty deserted tonight.

I wished I had slept through 1/2 of this stinker:

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/girls_trip

That's one of the reasons Rottentomatoes.com can NOT always be trusted. 89 % on the old TOMATOMETER ? No waaaaaay.

Here's another one from a couple of years ago with a 99 % rating. This was a boring boring movie and nobody loves Wallace and Gromit more than me. Shaun, NOT SO MUCH:

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/shaun_the_sheep_movie

ALSO, I just stumbled across this "free" movie ticket deal for THOR RAGNORAK. I don't need it, but I might do it to get tix for my kids. It beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, or so they say... SO SAY WE ALL !

How is this gambling related, you ask ? Well, eating at Red Robin is ALWAYS a gamble [ rim shot ].

I know girls like to get dressed up and actually go out, but IMO there are better things to do than go to the movies. So, unless you are going on a date or something like that, I can't think of a good reason to pay for a movie.

I don't even want to go the movies for free(everything is free online), especially nowadays with big screen 4k ultra HD televisions and cheap sound systems. I would rather not deal with the parking, lines and the cashiers and whatnot. I would rather not sit near people who laugh at dumb corny stuff or start screaming every time there's a “scary scene”. I would rather not hear or see people talking, walking, moving, crying, crunching, crinkling, jostling, slurping or giggling.

For me, movie watching is best done at home nowadays. I have all the food and drinks i like sitting in my kitchen. If we want something special, we can pick up or order something in at a reasonable price. If I want crappy nachos I will just go to the 7-11. I like that we can get the sound and lighting perfect and we get pause the movie anytime we want.

Whenever there's something special we really want to see, and the weather is nice, I have an extra TV I set up outside on the patio with the laptop, add the Bluetooth speakers, and voila! It's like going to the drive-in but with a much better picture quality. Been thinking of going with a projector, if they can hook up to your laptop and the quality is good. Not sure exactly what you would have to do to the wall.

P.S. Has anyone noticed that Television series are better than movies nowadays?

Surprisingly Good: Happy Death Day - 4.5 Stars out of 5.

Very refreshing and well written take on the classic Slasher/Sorority Girl in Trouble genre.

Surprisingly Bad: Daddy's Home 2 - 1.0 Stars out of 5.

This isn't exactly the kind of movie you go in to the theater with high expectations, but it was a disappointment on all levels. Mel Gibson and John Lithgow were completely wasted by a Director with no sense of comedy or timing. Run, don't walk, in the opposite direction if someone suggests going to see this stinker.

I thought this looked good too! Simple concept, but it reminds me of groundhogs day, of course. I'll be seeing this one on the next $5 movie night I'm sure.

Not too surprising. Both of them looked pretty terrible, unfortunately. I like Will Farrels comedy, but not him as a person (he's a huge douche). I like Marky Mark, but not his character in this movie.

My Opinion - THOR was "entertaining" but terrible. It was just one short joke after another, steering away from the original more serious Thor. There was a few good chuckle moments, but it was just absolutely not the movie I wanted nor was expecting to see.

We also saw Thor with our MoviePasses. I would have given it a higher score, probably a 4 out of 5. It had a different tone, no doubt. I don't think you can do the same thing too many times in a row. It was entertaining.

Tell that to Batman and Robin (the movie). :-) Took them, what, 15 years to make another one, and they went dark and intense, rebooted the entire franchise.
