There was a system in one of the Australian casinos (Perth I think) that gave you so many free [soft] drinks per day but you had to use your card.
In the UK most casinos operate like a members club so can offer free [soft] drinks.

That is similar to having to use your room key to activate the ice vending machine, it flags abusers.

Now as to UK casinos, I am an expert having seen a British gambling movie wherein tipping a waitress for a drink was rare but one high roller tipped fifty quid for a soda.

I've been in nearly all the casinos in the UK - except for a handful of invite-only London casinos - so can imagine in the higher roller casinos or prive rooms that that might happen; it might also happen after a poker tournament where a specific waitress was assigned to the competition and the winner provides the tip.

However, certainly in my local casino, the tips are now pooled so that suits get some action - I think this means less people tip - some get round this by giving the waitress a non-transferable gift at Christmas instead.

In a place like Vegas, self serve would get abused by street people.

Yeah, that's probably true, AC would have the same problem (maybe even worse). I am pretty sure, especially in the winter close to half of the people in AC casinos are just loiters and people heckling gamblers for money. If they had open stations of drinks and snacks, this problem would get even worse. Maybe it makes sense to have these amenities in players clubs where only people who play a certain amount can get it. But for most casinos in cities, having this stuff on the floor, would make the homeless and loiterer magnet exponentially worse.

Here is an open station for hot drinks in AC off the Broadwalk:

The homeless guys have not found out the above station yet.
I'm OK with Corps which pick and choose clienteles. Both insurance companies and casinos have the right to pick and choose customers. They may keep profitable ones and kicked out the rest. But, I'm not OK with a casino supervisor who says counting cards... is like stealing food from a buffet (a foodlifting offense), or video-taping a movie in a cinema (a piracy offense).

...<SNIP>... The homeless guys have not found out the above station yet.

Ha! That's what you think.

There's a fellow I know of who is completely and officially (as formally adjudicated by the Social Security administration of the US gov't) insane, a lifelong gambling degenerate who has been a homeless hobo for about forty years, who is constantly on the web. And is a member of this site, though I haven't seen him post on it lately. And if I remember correctly from the last time I looked at his internet blog (!) about his allegedly great gambling skills, I think he may be in AC right now. He lived off the grub in Caesars Diamond lounges for more than a year (until he was banned by that company for his violently angry weirdness) and slept in a an unlocked closet in the convention area of one Nevada casino and then the "spa" of another in California for months as his home, among other things as he wanders about.

I couldn't begin to guess where in AC that drink station is, but he'll know immediately, from the wallpaper pattern if nothing else. Looks like a nice thing to have that I'd use. Hope you get another cuppa joe from it before he shows up and and has one of his inevitable lunatic tantrums. I'm only about 12.3% kidding; every detail I just wrote above is factually true.... but I don't remember if he does coffee or not. Sodas definitely yes, but not sure about coffee. He has very particular eccentric & intense food & beverage obsessions. Cheers, and have a nicely caffeinated day, while it lasts.
Suck dope, watch TV, make up stuff, be somebody on the internet.

Bullz-eyed! Eagle has landed right on target. Here is another station for free drinks.

No, this is not the Pepsi Refresh Project. XYZ casino does offer free drinks for any guy (homeless or not) who walks in.

Yeah but that's not a casino. Many hotels have that sort of thing in their lounge area where their free snacks and stuff are.

Hotels have less to worry about as far as loiterers and hecklers.
