while 4Qs is independent with no locations other than Downtown Las Vegas, in case that matters to you.

Don't forget they also own Binion's.

If you are staying at 4Q's, you can use the outside, rooftop pool at Binion's.
I don't know everything but I know a lot.

I swam in that pool once back in the day when you could get a room at Binions.
Kind of neat, great view of downtown.

The one drawback that MSS does have is the train tracks right behind it. Sometimes a train will come through in the middle of the night.. and it's LOUD... you can ask for a room away from the tracks.. but you might get the noise from the freeway... frankly neither of these things bother me..and by the time I go to bed I'm so darn tired I can sleep through anything.

You don't hear it high up and with the AC on high. Even if I did, I'm used to it as I live near tracks.

. But I find 4Qs feels more cozy/comfortable for me, for some reason I can't put my finger on. .

I feel the same way. It's the only casino where
I feel comfortable walking around in my socks
like I do at home. I do it at night, when I'm in
for the evening. It might not be allowed but
I don't think anybody has ever noticed.

Now that is a point of distinction.
EB walks around in socks at home, sometimes in casinos.
I walk around barefoot at home, never barefoot in casinos.
If I put on socks, it's cause I'm about to put on shoes.
Way up north near Canada, where the winters are actually cold, socks are probably one of your best friends;-)
And you get used to what you get used to.
That guy wandering around the casino in his socks, hopefully not just his socks, that is not me, I don't care what song he's singing..;-)
Youuuuuu MIGHT be a 'rascal' if.......(nevermind ;-)...2F

I'd consider a suite at the Golden Gate. They look fairly nice and they are not all that expensive. They could be out for you because the prices you would likely pay for them would be more like strip prices for a room (nut not a suite), but it gives you a good room and access to the better gambling downtown. We've never stayed in one, we do a standard room, but those are average or so...nothing special.

I am a big fan of MSS and the Four Queens too. Both are very comfortable.

Keep in mind that at the Four Queens, just asking for a room away from the Fremont Experience won't necessarily save you from noise. The D built their concert stage out back so if there is a concert there at the time you are staying, you may be screwed. That being said, I have had rooms right over that darn Third Street Stage and since I travel with industrial earplugs...I still managed to sleep.

My new favorites are the Plaza and the D due to the comps they are giving me.
The Plaza has huge rooms and it is so quiet I couldn't even tell if there was anyone else in the hotel with me.

The D is very comfortable but their elevator system is still pretty annoying. When it is slow it is fine, but at busy times it can be very frustrating. We once waited twenty minutes for our elevator and that is unacceptable.
They are putting in two new ones due to open in September. I am hoping that will ease the situation somewhat.

I still look at Vegas like I did in the 70's. The
real Vegas is DT, the Strip is the phony Vegas
out that a-way in the desert. It's too tacky, too
bright, too noisy and too crowded. It's what
Coney Island used to be to NYC. Nobody
can really take it seriously.

The Plaza treats us well. Coffee maker and mini fridge in the room. South tower is deathly quiet. No problem sleeping day or night.

Some complain about the odor. I've never noticed. But as long as they court us like they have been they'll have me staying there.

And unlike some, maybe most, I spend a lot of time in the room. So comfort is important. I didn't care too much for the standard room but really like the suite. The last two trips we have even gotten the same one.

It's a vacation for me.
