I agree on the nickle and diming. Sometimes spirit will offer $50 one ways to Vegas from BWI but they're horrible hours and are closer to $100 after fees.
I live in DC and travel to Vegas and Seattle a dozen times a year combined. Trips are for 2-3 days or a week long. Weekend trips can fit in a dufflebag, longer trips require a roller. I haven't checked a bag in years.

I'm with you, it has probably been 10 years since I checked a bag. I just spent 20 days working in Texas and got by with just a carry on bag.

If you are flexible on day of the week travel (lowest price usually Mon/Tue/Wed) you can fly round-trip, nonstop, BUF-LAS for $300 total. The legacy carriers (Delta,United,American) usually match these sales but will require a connection each way from BUF.

Did you really use everything in your bags? I can't imagine travelling with that much stuff. My wife and I always travel with carry on. We even did 2 weeks kicking around the Greek islands with a day pack each.

Out of the 7 bags, 4 were large checked bags, 1 was a camera bag, 1 was a large carry on with some extra clothes, and 1 was a small carry on.
1 of the large checked bags had nothing but shoes but 2 of them were my size 13s.
We didn't use everything but we did actually use a lot. We could have had a lot less and just wore a few shirts twice but she wanted to overpack since it was near 100 where we went.

I flew Continental to the west coast a few years ago because the SWA rate almost doubled from one day to the next. It was cheaper then to fly another airline.
I don't know if that's the norm. But since that time I'll always check dates different than what I actually want before booking.
And traveling alone I can fit a weeks worth of clothes into one carry on. Traveling with my wife, I don't even try.

They have dynamic pricing so if you buy a seat for x price, that may be the last seat at that price. As soon as you buy it the price will change.
