Shack's the man, one of a kind, without parallel. Period. End of story. I am intolerant of opposing positions on the subject.

My comment that I posted on BJ21, where I first saw reference to this article was as follows:

I wonder if the label that was used early in the article "professional gambler" really applies to Mike. No doubt, when he gambles he always gambles with and advantage, so AP would certainly apply. But Mike has his hand in so many different things (and diversification is a good thing), I don't think it is accurate to refer to him as a professional gambler. When I hear "professional gambler", I think of all or certainly the majority of one's income coming from gambling.

Interested to hear thoughts, including and especially Mike's.

Whatever the proper label, Mike.... I congratulate you on living life on YOUR terms. That is the ultimate achievement. :)

I dunno if any AP's like to be called "professional gamblers" or anyone involved in gambling. It gives off such a negative connotation like we are all degenerates.

Obviously I can't tell someone at a casino I am an AP, but I can't even explain to anyone outside of my circle what I do. I usually just tell people I'm self employed or daytrade.

I wonder if Mrs. Shackleford would completely agree with that ;)

Nice article. Positive, revealing, and well written. It was a good read.

It's on my bucket list to do something worthy of a biography. At this rate, I'll have to settle for one of Mission's "5,000th Post" interviews =p

A double whammy to do what won't matter anyway, when you're old, while you're young. And, the boundary conditions of, "Life is what happens while you're making other plans."

How far can television, eg, go until the dancers and actors go raving mad from all the choreography? Seems like the hollow era of perfect performances.
Nonsense is a very hard thing to keep up. Just ask the Wizard and company.

Are you kidding? There's a TV show that's nothing but choreography.

What worries me is, kids will watch Glee (well, watch reruns, as it just ended), see Vocal Adrenaline ("the bad guys") do all sorts of incredible choreography while singing at the same time, think, "Why can't I do that?", and then actually try it, not realizing that not only can very few people sing and dance that well, but pretty much none of them can do it simultaneously.

Thank you for the kind words.

I admit that I've never made a significant percentage of my income gambling. Actual gambling is more of sideline. I think it is difficult to be both a full time professional gambler and gambling writer.

wiz,

I'm assuming your website was bringing in at least as much $ as your SSA job when you quit in 2000?
