As of the last day or so when I come on this site I am being pummeled with pop ups and everything is moving slower. I can't type a complete sentence without another damn pop up ad coming up... the computer freezes up as it's about to pop up and I can't type anything, then after a few seconds the actual pop up plasters itself on my monitor screen and after some cursing at the screen, deleting the evil little pop up ad I try to regain my thoughts and can resume typing. Did I accidentally turn my pop up blocker off? Did Michael Shackleford sell his soul to the devil and allow someone to pummel the members of this forum with endless pop ups to score a few extra shekels? Something has occurred here within the last few days... Is this happening to anyone else?

No, this sounds like a problem on your end.

I installed adblock plus and have no problems. I don't know a heck of a lot about computers but before installing it I had the situation that you describe. My wife couldn't play Words with Friends without lengthy ads popping up after every single move. Now there are none. We also scan with Malwarebytes and use CCleaner.

This happened to me about 6 weeks ago. The guys here are right; your browser has been hijacked. I got the SUPERantispyware program they recommended and it cleaned it all off.

Remove Outfox.TV hijack (Virus Removal Guide)

Plenty of other sources for advise and instructions if you search for them.

Don't pay for anything. There are many good antivirus packages available for free. It's an old scam for a virus to sell you a tool to remove itself.

I don't do that anyway!!!

I've also not had any viruses, which I suppose is not technically proof that Avast is working, but at least it's apparently not hurting anything...

I have nothing. Do you pay for Avast?

My other computer I downloaded a Movie player, I knew was iffy however, I really felt it was worth the risk,NOT, that computer is now filled with all kinds of crap. I think I need a disk to reformat it and I don't have one, any easy suggestions?

I had some similar issues; switched from Mozilla to Goggle, fixed it. Not saying that it blocks everything, but does a much better job with ads, popups, etc. Have heard the Explorer also has issues.

No, Avast is free.

I don't go to many websites, if the hackers start targeting gambling-related sites, though, I'm probably screwed.

Since there's a finite number of viruses, proper basic strategy is to treat your body like crap when your young, that way when your older/weaker you've already had them. That's what some dude who stayed at a holiday inn express told me, so you know it's true.

You might have a "rootkit" infestation which most antivirus packages cannot possibly remove. Typically these types of malware alter the boot block programming on your drive and keep a copy of the virus in memory when the system is running. Even if you stomp out all the infested files on the drive it will reinstall itself from the in-memory process or else via the corrupted boot block programming the next time you fire up your PC. You need a root kit removal tool in this case. The tool will boot from a CD or flash drive and work with your primary drive while it is not involved in the running operating system. I've had good luck with the free tools offered by Kaspersky. There are others. This advice is given without obligation, warranty, guarantee or liability. Good luck!

The source does not nullify the validity of the statement. My mother, a registered nurse, took all of her children around to visit kids with chicken pox, mumps, measles and rubella. So, we all gained immunity to adult cases of those viruses which would have had much more severe consequences.

I and quite a few people I've talked to have problems with shopping sites, some of the many invasive and tracking Google applications, as well as some travel sites, usually run by packagers and as travel agency fronts. Not to mention E-Bay. Besides Avast, NoScript on Firefox is particularly useful, but also not 100%.

I used my credit card once yesterday, for a local, known car part shopping site.

Today I got emails from the card co. asking if I had run up a string of charges: I hadn't.

Damned fraudsters.

Wonder how they got my card info?

It's gone. It was "getsavin" pop up ads all over. I have no idea how it got there or from where but it was certainly annoying. I'm glad it wasn't something odd with this site. My virus program should have taken care of it but I guess it slipped past? It is vanquished now. I was a little paranoid after Mr.V's comment and I nervously looked at my computer keyboard hoping not to see any chimpanzee jizz...
