I think for players who play almost exclusively table games it is more important to keep very detailed records, as they are more likely to adjust their unit size or spread to maintain the same level of risk as they win or amass a loss, and to see how close you are to expectation over a long period of time for a given game. If you have a lot of different plays in small doses, or play primarily machines, probably less important, as your bet size is usually determined by the machine, or less flexibility in bet sizing with vp. Of course one must still play with a reasonable risk of ruin, but not as much flexibility in calibrating bet size.

I agree. I'm not saying record keeping is a bad thing, it should be done as much and accurate as possible. I am the one who told DJ to get that APP. I have 4 separate apps on my phone and I still cant find the perfect one.

When I made this post I didn't think it would blossom into the big thread it is. I figure I'd write my thoughts, get a few replies, then the post would die an obscure death. Sometimes it takes being at your worst to find out who our real friends are. Thanks to all who gave me support. I feel we are very close to tensions blowing over with some, and i would hate to see anyone suspended because of this thread. I think the thread had run its course. If a mod can see this can you please lock the thread. I really don't have anything else to say except good luck to all of you in your gambling, professional or not. I hope nobody ever has to go through a downswing of any sort.

Well, my words don't carry much weight, at least not on this forum. I am just a small unknown gambler.
But I have a few words to say.
djatc is good fellow. We know that from quite a few members on the forum, pretty much from any one who knows him.
I completely believe that. And I also believe, in my opinion, he is a professional gambler. Maybe he is not yet an expert or an advanced professional gambler.
He just wants to vent his frustration here. That's perfectly fine. In fact I agree with AxelWolf, that is a good thing. The otherwise is a dangerous sign.
And I also want to give my full support to djatc. Don't give up. keep going, and keep posting here.

I also want to say that, in my opinion, Sally and Buzz didn't mean to hurt him or hate him. Their words may sound too harsh, but they just wanted to tell him one thing,
one very important thing that djatc might not know yet: losing several weeks in a row, losing $6000 is nothing. Losing much more than that is also nothing. Losing your entire bankroll is also nothing. In fact, it is one of the steps you must go through if you want to be a advanced (or real) professional gambler.
Many years later, when you look back, you would laugh at yourself: "Ha, I was really naive then, I was so frustrated after I lost $6000. Now I can lose $60000 without blinking my eyes".

Downswing is painful, but it is part of the game.
winning streaks come and go, losing streak never ends.

Sally I'm still confused are you an AP?

I would like to point out. it may not be faults hope, he can hope to never have one. It is rare, but there are AP's that DON'T have down swings where they ever lose. Not because they are lucky or on the right side of variance, but because they only play things that are a lock.

Sorry I didn't see this when I asked again. I asked if you are an AP, not if you had a gambling bankroll (My Mom has a gambling bankroll and she is not an AP). I am not asking exact details, im just curious what games you play and if when you play them you have an advantage and make significant money doing it.

Do you play good BJ, good VP, Poker, or anything like this that has a decent edge.

Did you earn you BR from gambling?

When I say AP i mean someone who plays a significant amount of time and earns money doing it. I don't consider someone who plays just the LDW the D an AP. I don't consider someone who come to Vegas and counts cards once in a blue moon a AP.

I think you know what im getting at.

I'm still trying to figure out how much money $500,00 is.

Top 3 guesses:

Is it $500 (that 24% comma-as-a-decimal-place nonsense)?
Is is $50k (comma in wrong place?)
Is it $500k? (comma in right place, but missing a 0?)

We have to remember that this is someone who claims to be up over $1000 lifetime at craps. I think we can rule out AP.

questions here though:

*don't you always split 88? what's up with that, I guess I don't get it. It's 16.
* so I bust trying to reach 17 and she ...." ; if you bust, doesn't matter what dealer hits, so?
* "at least 17" ; well, 17 blows, and 18 is not quite good enough.

I might have not thought about surrendering since I don't play double deck surrender. Also the Wizard's basic strategy calculator just says to split 88 vs any upcard. Of course it doesn't matter what the dealer had when I bust, but just the fact that every time I could have stayed on 15 or 16 and let her bust made me mad. It's like why couldn't the 5 or 6 be showing?

In a H17 game (double deck or shoe), BS is to surrender 88 vs A. This is the only exception to "always split aces and eights" (at least here in the states, where there is always a hole card. In those crazy ENHC games there are other exceptions if you can lose all bets to a dealer BJ.)

DJ, keep your head in the game and trust the math. You'll come out of this stronger!

Yes I knew someone was going to ask this. They estimate, I guess and get casino printouts for big plays. How they would ever get this exact, I have no clue. I highly doubt people who make over 500k a year pay the correct amount.

How is it that "DI's" beat craps, while paying proper taxes? One year may be fantastic year and the next year they may lose.

for that matter the same goes for High limit VP with a very small edge. One year you might have 5 100k royals and win a ton.
The next year you may lose 300k.

Wow that's awesome. Let me guess your solution to the Great Nonsense Pyramid theory,,,, ALIENS....right?
And would those other "Moves" that have been so profitable by any chance be moves from a foreclosed property to a rent free shelter, or your mom's basement?

Personal Insult, Trolling, Thirty Days. Apparently, the public Warning from Wizard didn't faze you.

Thank You so much for your good advice sir ! You're very kind to share your personal playing strategies with a complete stranger. I've been reading your brilliant posts and I had no doubt that if anybody had a winning strategy it would be you. I can't wait to try it.

Well, clearly this post falls under the Mission exception ;)

I have a hard time thinking about life any differently than this. I think I need some therapy to help me appreciate life while I've got it...

Tolstoy suffered the same predicament. Look up his essay entitled "A Confession". He found his solution in faith. Unfortunately that doesn't work for me. I wish it did.
