Sorry, you lost me. What does that mean?

Apparently he was a big death penalty enthusiast, in case that helps.

In his time, poppies were death-flowers, used to honor veterans and other deceased. You still see them (the red single layer 5 petal flowers) worn by VFW vets and other people who are remembering WWI through Korea veterans.

He was saying kill em all and save the taxpayers the expense of feeding and housing them.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

I played poker quite a bit with Judge Mills Lane at the Cal Neva/Reno. After his TV show he came back to Reno semi-retired. He fronted for an ambulace chasing law firm and did local TV commercials. He spent all of his free time in the Cal Neva poker room. He wore cowboy boots with a pistol in one of them. I don't blame him. He sentenced a lot of guys to hard time and put 7 of them on death row.

Mickey - I grew up watching boxing with my dad and absolutely loved the way Mills Lane refereed fights. What he lacked in size, he made up with a forceful, yet fair style in the ring.

Keep the stories coming, absolutely my favorite reading in this forum!

OK, thanks. When I hear about poppies, I think of something else entirely, lol.

Although I don't support the death penalty, I can certainly respect the idea of wanting to kill people :)

Poppies grow on graves.

Thanks, I didn't make that connection.

Someone tried to post the same thing on a boxing forum:

My favorite quote from those days has to be his stand on
the death penalty; "It's cheaper to water a flower than feed a prisoner."

But if it's just a generic flower, the quote makes no sense (?)

Sorry, I realize I'm off on a tangent.

I used to get to enjoy playing some small stakes poker with Huggy-Bear the Pimp (actor from a long gone TV thing) pretty often. Really an uncommonly pleasant gentleman to share a table with. Haven't seen him in quite some time.

Played at the old IP at about four or five in the morning with both Tony Soprano, Jr. (the actor who played the son) and a woman I was later informed is supposedly regarded as a very famous "adult video" star. It was during the week of "that convention" (happens every year in January) and she was obviously (even to me) in town for something to do with the convention. I'll leave it to you to imagine what-all made that much so obvious. And I have no idea if the fellow from The Sopranos was or wasn't in town for the same event, but he was certainly having a good time.

ADD: Okay now I remember the retired "Huggy-Bear" character's actual name: Antonio Fargas. He also had the lead role in an epic work of cinematic art titled "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka."

I was playing craps at Rio during the WSOP, and TJ Cloutier was playing on the table across from me. It was pretty chaotic at that table. I wanted no part of it.
If Sandra Bullock ever played BJ in Mirage about 20 years ago, I am pretty sure I played with her. I wasn't sure if it was her, and I wasn't about to ask.

I rolled for about 25 minutes one night at the Borgata from stick left, and I didn't realize that TJ Cloutier was standing over my left shoulder. He thanked me when he left after my 7-out; my buddy said he picked up about 1K on my roll.
If government is the answer, it must have been a very stupid question.

One of my sisters used to date David Soul. They met in a blues bar in downtown Seattle.

Mr. Soul would fly up to Seattle to see her? I suspect he had women in other towns to.

Apologies, the decade of the 1970s was a foggy time for me; my younger days were not all well spent. But I do remember and honor the star of the show: The Striped Tomato!

Drawing inspiration from another thread by Callmegeorge (or whatever), here is a question for us all....
Have you ever gambled with anyone famous, meaning at the same table or adjacent tables?

I usually gamble with money. As to who is at the same or nearby tables I probably would not know. I tend to stay away from The Palms and The Hard Rock because I don't care for Hollywood Starlets known for Botox Barfing or Hollywood Stars known for dribbling on camera or on basketball courts.

I have enough trouble figuring out what point was rolled without trying to pay attention to what sychophantic entourage member provided the boobs the dice bounced off of.

About 10 years ago I was having a comped meal at Mongolia's in the Four Queens. I look out and T. J. Cloutier is playing craps at the most westerly of the two tables. And in 1978 I saw Redd Foxx playing BJ at the Silver Bird when I was staying there.

I was just in St. Louis a couple weeks ago with my mother, and we stayed at the Hollywood for four nights. I looked over and saw Nelly (the rapper) playing at the craps table around 2 am. He came over to our UTH table to play one hand (blind) at table max ($700 total)... he lost and went back to craps with his huge stack of orange chips.

Two nights later I saw him there again... we played UTH for about three hours together. He said he was down $18K for the night before coming over. He was CONSTANTLY giving us crap for not playing the Trips bet... so I offered to let him put his money on it and I would give him whatever it won, but he said no, haha.

The table hit a brutal cold streak at one point, so I stopped playing and just watched him and my mother play. On the first hand I sat out... Nelly got quad 5's! That would have been my hand had I been playing!!! He won about $1,000 from it... I thought maybe he would be generous and give me a small cut (since it was my decision to sit out that gave him that big hand, and he could tell I was irritated by it)... but I guess that was just wishful thinking and instead I got nothing, lol.

A dealer later told me that Nelly pretty much lives in that casino. He was very loud and enjoyed the constant attention. On the one hand it was cool to meet him, but also pretty pathetic how full of himself and obnoxious he is.
