I was reading this month's Casino Journal today and Denis Conrad mentioned this as one of the worst casino promotions (Coeur D'Alene Casino Resort Hotel, Worley, Idaho):

http://consumerist.com/2012/09/10/is-this-911-casino-promotion-a-nice-tribute-or-just-tacky/

To me this is beyond shocking and no casino professional in their right mind should entertain such a promotion. It's no surprise to me this casino is in Idaho because I think everyone in the business in Las Vegas would know better. Anyone ever heard of this casino?

Enough with the 9-11 stuff. Lower the flags, blow the horns, fire the cannons and have your moment of silence on 9-11 if it makes you feel better. Wouldn't that be enough? Each day the sun rises the world is one day closer to an event that will make 9-11 look like a girl scout party.
Each day is better than the next

I looked at it 2 ways

A promotion to bring people into the property by using the victims of 9/11.

A promotion to help keep people honoring those heroes of 9/11.

If you have view #1, you absolutely hate it and will scream at the top of your lungs to spread your opinion.

If you have view #2, you are perfectly fine with it and then get threats from people with view #1.

No big casino would ever do this because they know it is a touchy subject and they would get some bad press. You don't do a promo expecting bad press. Was this casino dumb for doing this? Maybe, but it isn't like I was ever going to go there. Also if I was in Idaho I still may go there because there is no way I remember the name of that casino.

I thought of it in this light too, and if it was truly intended to honor the 9-11 heroes, then I would be OK with it. But to only give $10 extra play cash, a $91.11 room rate, and a $9.11 food voucher? C'mon, that's an insult. To truly show how to keep honoring 911 heroes they should give a free night's room and free dinner. That might be acceptable. Plus, how many 911 responders would there be in Idaho anyway? I hope whoever thought of this promotion leaves it off their resume.

Not that it makes any difference to the comments but if you click the link that was last years ad. Phone the casino they should be able to tell you how successfull it was.

The place is in the Idaho panhandle off of I-90. Doubt they get tons of business.

1500 slots according to their website must have somebody there occassionaly. Didn't see anything about a 9-11 promo on their site for this year but they did show a 'heros special'.

Last year's ad?

You don't even need to phone them, whether or not they are doing it again this year would tell you how successful it was.

I'm sorry but this comment just made Revel pop back into my head, not sure why :)

Not only is it in poor taste, it's a terrible and cheap deal. They must have been all on drugs when they came up with this. If they offered them $50 FP and $30 food, not so bad, but $10 FP and $9.11 for food is just disrespectful and they probably gave the third degree to anyone whom tried claiming it.

I work in downtown Manhattan. There's a lot of 911 pr0n going on by the WTC construction site. Yes, it's weird. I'm sure that sooner or later there will be a mattress sale with 911 all over it.
