I watched Vegas Vacation again last night on AMC channel. The movie was filmed only 12 years before I moved to Vegas in late 2009 and only 9 or 10 years before my first visit here, but scenes from both the strip and Fremont street look so different to me.

With the scenes filmed at Wayne Newton's Casa de shannondoah, the timing seems ironic as Mr Newton was finally forced out of his 45 year old home and relocated earlier this week. That was kind of sad.

And lastly, the scenes with the short, wise-ass, cheating BJ dealer where just hilarious. Resembles some of the dealers that I play with at the off tourist locations and reminds me why I don't tip. lol (just kidding....don't turn this into a 'tipping thread'). I also still laugh my ass off when they enter the casino that has other, less traditional games, like rock-paper-scissors, and dealer thinking of a number between 1 and 10. Still funny stuff. :)

Ya that`s a funny movie,I still watch it every once in a while. They actually made rock paper scissors into a casino game, but it didn`t last long. I`ve played some dealers with the same attitude as the one in the movie:)

I saw it last night as well. I've been watching it for years and it is probably one of my favorite movies ever!

I like it so much that several years ago I picked up a Vegas Vacation press promo photo that is signed by Wayne Newton.

Don't judge me. ;)

Rock Paper Scissors WAS a real game? News to me.

I guess it's not so ironic as I once thought that War is in that weird casino.

Vegas Vacation is great. They eat breakfast at Caribe Cafe (Mirage) at one point, I always liked that place.

I once cashed a check at the Mirage cage just like they did in the movie. I thought I was cool. The attendant rolled their eyes since the check was for a whopping $300 and I was 25. :)

the best part of that movie was in the gag casino, they had "war" alongside "guess which hand" and "guess what number i'm thinking of" as ridiculous games... a few years later, war was introduced to real casinos to raging success.

I DVR'ed this last night; I haven't watched it since I started coming to Vegas more regularly. I am also a little disappointed I didn't burn my MyVegas points on the "Papageorgio Suite"; I definitely had plans for that until they started jacking up the prices. :(

At one point Chevy Chase hands the smartassed BJ dealer
the money directly, a clear casino violation. Whats really
sad is brilliant comedy actor Randy Quaid is stilled holed
up in Canada, and fugitive from US law enforcement.

That movie is seriously underrated. Very funny film. I love when the BJ dealer offers to take only half of Chevy's money, and kick him in the nuts, and "call it even".

I had no idea Randy Quaid was that much of a whackjob.

Quaid is that much of a whackjob in REAL LIFE too. Seriously off his rocker

I guess it's not so ironic as I once thought that War is in that weird casino.

I first saw it in a mississippi casino (casino Magic I think) around 2002 or 2003.It was played with different colored cards representing the rock, scissors and paper.
It was also called Roshambo I think. It was easily beatable under certain conditions, which lead to it`s demise at the casino Magic.

Huge fan of this movie. Having watched it many times with many different people I've found that those who enjoy casinos and gambling love the movie, those who are less interested say it's average. Not sure what part I like better, the unconventional casino games or the blackjack dealer. I can't remember the blackjack dealer's name, but I saw him in a preview for a movie this year. If someone could just go ahead and tell me who it is, that'd be great.

I like the guy on the strip who sells the kid
the fake ID. Like the Strip cops would let
a guy like that last an hour. The movie
has every possible stereotype, thats why its
so enjoyable. If you aren't a Vegas person,
you won't 'get it'. None of the stuff that happens
to the Griswold's ever happens in real life Vegas.
Nobody loses every hand, Wayne Newton never
falls in love with audience members, nobody
ever wins 4 cars on the slot machines. Nobody
ever loses everything and wins it all back with
a dead mans Keno ticket. And nobody has a
relative as useless and clueless as Randy Quaid's
character.

The film is not available free on youtube so I didn't watch it.
Some of the scenes are available; I watched some of the silly games about guessing the number and taking the dealer's word for it.

......Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh.............

It's either that or Spaceballs for my favorite movie of all time, but probably a slight edge for Office Space.

I'm such a sucker for corny over the top comedies. On that note I'm trying to decide whether Hangover 3 is worth my 10 bucks to see in theaters.

I'm not sure, I haven't seen any of the Hangover movies. I watch movies so rarely now that I tend to only watch the ones I've already seen and liked, just to be safe.

The first one's premise of "bachelor party in Vegas" was a good idea, but I dunno what they were smoking with the second one. I didn't bother to see 3, probably will once it's out on blu-ray.

Anyway I'm queuing up Vegas Vacation. Sounds like a great movie. Reminds me of Let it Ride.

It was clever. They showed the party aftermath and
spent the rest of the movie piecing together what
happened. You can only do that once, they jumped
the shark in the first film.

Well VEGAS VACATION won his race last night in Toronto and will now be one of the favorites to win the MILLION DOLLAR FINAL next weekend.

The one owner has said from very early on this year to the staff that works for the trainer of his horse... if we win the MILLION DOLLAR NORTH AMERICA CUP its going to be a big party for ALL THE STAFF in Las Vegas on his tab ... all expenses paid ( except bail payments )

I have seen all 3 Hangover movies, and while I liked 3 better than 2, it in no way compares to 1. I paid $1.50 for Hangover 3 and that felt about right for it. Make sure to stay for the credits if you see it.

"Hangover 3" looks pretty lame.

You might want to re-rent "Mars Attacks" instead.

Love the Las Vegas scenes.

They showed this on our bus trip to the Grand Canyon and although I'd seen it 100 times, I noticed the DVD had several scenes included that they have cut on the TV version. I tried to open the door at the Hoover Dam, but it was locked.
