hellacious conditions the dealers must face.....similar to the kill floor at meat packing plants.....

Well, if those folks didn't like their jobs they were free to find different ones. I think we've heard that enough times in this thread to make it true. Also, someone recently made the astute observation: nothing worse than a cry baby employee...

Not for nothing TTB, but we've already got one EvenBob, we really don't need another.

yes, I must admit MonkeyMonkey that whining employees run a close second to murderers and rapists on the "who I like least list".

Personally I wouldn't have made such a statement (at least without some qualifiers) because it's just too easy to think of something worse than a cry baby employee, but it was your quote, if you're having trouble standing behind your own words it sounds like a personal problem.

I generally always have my least favorite dealer in my mind and I put extra pressure on them to let them know that THEY ARE THE WORST!!! Because there is always a worst one and as many dealers as I see, it's fun game to identify the worst of the worst of the worst!

Thankfully most bettors do not conduct themselves in that manner. Besides, it's not exactly productive. If a dealer is incompetent or nasty, that is enough to move elsewhere. A neutral dealer who does a yeoman-like job is perfectly fine. The fun dealers will get the full and friendly response.

Is it bad? How come more dealers don't decide to go postal? You know, come to work, and start shooting.

There is usually a sign by the employee entrance that says firearms are forbidden unless approved by the president/director of security.

P.S. To the comments, I agree if the dealer does not enjoy their job anymore they should find another one. Dealers never really have to put up with anything, they just have to decide if the benefits of taking action in a situation are worth the cost of being disciplined/fired at work. I myself would walk off a game and go home before I would try to argue/fight with a player.

So players can pack in Nevada, but not dealers? That seems unfair. But if they have been explicitly approved, I would also question my general work environment.

I guess if the dealer wanted to they could live by the motto better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

Not many places to tuck away a little firepower in a dealers uniform. Maybe an ankle holster would do it, but it's not easily accessible. My first thought was to tuck it in the back of the pants, and then I thought about sitting down to deal Bacc and realized that wouldn't work.

As for me, if I ever feel like I need to be strapped while dealing I'll find something else to do for money or change casinos first.

I'm strongly on the side of the dealers deserving to get tips, but if I have a shitty dealer or a rude dealer I just leave. I'd rather not stiff the dealer and be cheap, but I don't want to play with a dealer like that either so I just find another table. It seems that almost everyone is in agreement that if dealers don't like their job then GTFO.

Is Plaxico Burress dealing somewhere now? You have better odds not being a target in a casino and able to flee than the risk of trying to hide a gun somewhere it shouldn't be.

Nope, no problems. As far as I can tell all of my opinions work together seamlessly, no cognitive dissonance here. I, however, can not vouch for you as your statements appear contradictory. Good luck with that.

O.K., I should let this go but.....where have I'm contradicted myself? I think I've made it clear I don't like malcontents, who does? Surely not you? The dealer, when it's all boiled down, feels like "the man is keeping him down". He bites the hand that feeds him....nothing new.

I have only had one situation where I felt very threatened and my floor person did not take it seriously, so I left that place. Now I just find some of the customers annoying, so thats why I am leaving the dealing business.

Sorry, too many better things to do than put together all the quotes just to have you not respond to it. Been there, done that. For someone that's been here for more than 10 minutes I would consider doing it, but you just don't have enough time in grade to bother with.

So, like I said before, good luck.

There was a BJ and MiniBacc dealer at Tampa that couldn't stand it when he was stiffed and when he became a floorman he retained that attitude, so he never thought it wrong to use foul language directed at a player or at an entire table of players.
He is in a different industry today though and he should have been transitioned to a different industry far sooner than he was.

Its okay to blame anyone you wish to but on duty... you dummy up and deal. There are difficulties to the job: you stand all day, you have no pockets, you are on camera, ... and perhaps you blame The Fates or whatnot, but whatever you do... dummy up and deal.

The one thing to always remember is that there are over 100 or more people in the dealer schools around town that will take your job in a second, so don't let the door hit you on the way out because you are VERY replaceable.

You will find that in every job, not just dealing that the physical work of most every job isn't the issue, it's the assholes you have to deal with. You will find them in every job and every industry. If you leave a job or industry in search of dealing with people who are sunshine and roses all the time, you will be very disappointed.

Hyperbole aside, the author of the article began dealing in 1979. Of course he's seen all the disgusting things he writes about. I have too and could add a half dozen or so more to that list. The fact is these things are extremely rare. Selective memory is on both sides of the table. This sounds like another frustrated, burned out dealer at the mercy of his employer. I couldn't imagine going through life like that.

What they don't seem to realize on the shore is that Atlantic City is no longer the only game in town. Tourists and locals alike have many alternatives without flying across the country and they are well aware of this. They are also aware of the better games and perks. There's plenty of blame to go around from the restroom attendants to the CEOs but the bulk of it goes straight to the top.

As others have pointed out, anyone unhappy with their job can do something about it or whine, complain and blame everyone else. Gone are the days of graduating and spending your entire career with the same company.

I wouldn't necessarily say those days are gone. I personally know people who have spent their entire life working for companies like American Family and Chase Bank (via multiple buyouts like Bank One and First Chicago), but there are people that still do that, and I think that still may be more prevalent in small town America where there is only 1-2 major employers in town. Working your entire career for the same company is now much more the exception than the rule but by no means is it extinct.
