Man, this is the first time we've overnighted in 2 years; the recession plus a daughter in expensive school will do that to you. We started with the $250 in slot comps, and burned through those really quickly (my theory: play those in $5 machines, it gives the best chance to win playable cash and gets you through the comped $$ the fastest.) It was late and I wasn't feeling the tables, so I sat with the wife and played .25 slots; she lost $150, I lost $100. I'd lost almost $200, but got a lucky hit for $120, then we played penny slots and I milked mine for a couple hours, up and down, netted out down $100.

Tomorrow morning I'm getting up early and I'm going to take some pictures outside, then we're going to eat and then see if we can win an ownership stake in the casino.

give us the mood in AC if you can, and good luck!

I'm also interested in the 'mood' at Caesar's. Are the dealers still on strike?

FYI: It's a working strike - maybe 'job action' is more appropriate. It's been going on for well over two years. If the weather is nice they have a couple people out on the boardwalk passing out information and stickers. In the casino, the dealers don't/can't talk about it, but I'd bet they would at least acknowledge that it's still going on or when it ended.

One of their arguments is that, while they are struggling for pay increases, the CEO got a raise from $13mil to $40mil.

Personally, I wonder what anybody does that justifies a $13mil salary. But, assume that it's reasonable. How the hell is a 3x pay raise justifiable?

CEOs at most of the major companies are ripping off all of us, and we the shareholders, are standing by allowing it to happen. I have about 18 pages I could fill, but I'll just leave it at this.

I know that. I just can't see how anyone can justify a triple pay raise.

Doesn't matter that it's $13mil to $40mil. I can't see justifiying a raise from $13/hr to $40/hr either!

A CEO is to a corporation what a quarterback is to a football team. Did you know a third-string, newly drafted QB makes more money than some starting line players? Have you noticed that even QBs who've been cut from one poorly performing team can get really good salaries in other teams (usually those doing as badly)? Why?

Because the QB position is the most difficult in football and there aren't enough good QBs to meet demand, therefore they all fetch a very high price even if they're not very good (really bad ones don't get hired, or not for long; see Ryan Leaf). On the other hand defensive and offensive linemen are abundant. True, a team can live and die by its lines, but there never has been a shortage of talented linemen. Therefore they make less money.

But as a QB's ultimate performance depends on himself and his coaches, so a CEO's depends on himself and the board of directors. Some CEOs fail because they're not very good at their jobs, but some fail because the board doesn't give them the authority they need, or they expect unrealistic goals. And sometimes a CEO can fail because overall conditions simply aren't right.

Hello from Caesar's!

My hobby is photography (not gambling, that is a pastime); I decided to learn it to keep my mind sharp as I get older. I got up early this AM and walked the boardwalk, and I give you, the heart of AC in early morning:

I'm going to go back and get that one tonight, after dark.

The gambling... I played craps this morning (PL/FO/6/8, tuttigym). I played about an hour, lost $50 total betting $10/$12/3x odds. I wasn't feeling it, the reason why in a moment. I switched to 4 Card poker and got creamed; in 15 minutes, the best hand I got was a pair of 3s. Meanwhile, the guys at 1st and 3rd were cleaning up, with flushes and 3 of a kinds repeatedly. Both of them colored up twice, I'd guess $1000 to my right and about $500 to my left. I finally hit 2 pair and cashed in down about $150.

Meanwhile, Mrs Mosca had tapped out! She lost her entire day's bankroll on the slots. So we wandered around, until I put $100 in a $1 WOF machine, and after about a dozen spins got this:

!!!! (Cell phone cameras are getting better every day!)

So I gave Mrs. M some wam (walkaroundmoney) and since I was feeling fortunate (which is different from lucky) I followed her around and we kinda played even on low limit slots until lunchtime.

The mood: not good, IMO. The reason I walked away from the craps table was that the dealer and stickman were talking about how the dealer had to give up her Saturday off, and this was the 3rd one in a row and she was going to miss her grand daughter's christening, and blah blah blah blah blah. You know what? I'm not unsympathetic, but so what. Life often sucks in little ways. Part of your job is to keep that crap in the break room and not talk about it in front of the customers. And the pit boss was standing watching the table the whole time. For me, it put a downer on the experience, I'm trying to win and this jerk is complaining the whole time. And then at the 4 card table; right after I sat down, the guy to my left got paid and said along the lines of, "You could gimme some reds y'know, I'm all greens here." And the dealer SNAPPED at him, "Hey, all you have to do is ask. I got this big rack of chips here, what are you complaining about? You're getting paid." And like I said, it was true; the guy was up a lot, and hitting hand after hand. And I know that they try to do that, to bump the guy's play up. But still, I was taken aback and wanted to walk right there; it was just plain rude and unfriendly. But I'd just sat down, and people were winning, and I figured the cards didn't know that the dealer was rude. Unfortunately, they also didn't know I'm a nice guy.

After lunch I went to a different 4 card table and got creamed again, betting green this time; best hand was a pair of kings, dealer had a flush. I won 1 hand in about 10, and walked again. Mrs M lost all the wam, so as is our plan, we went out and walked the boardwalk because our session budget was tapped. I took the camera and got some shots, but I didn't get a chance to look at them yet.

Right now I'm down about $250 over 3 sessions (last night, this AM, and this early PM), and Mrs M is tapped. We're going to eat in a bit, probably go to The Pier and window shop first, and then hit the floor again later this evening. I can't get shut out at the tables again, it just doesn't happen! (Of course it does, it happens all the time.) She'll most likely take a seat next to me and watch.

Oh, and the wireless internet is really slow and costs $13 for 24 hours. My 24 hours ends tonight around 11PM, so I won't update until tomorrow, the pictures take too freakin' long.

Oh, and I can't get any pretty waitress shots because Mrs M would freak.

Nice hit on the WOF machine.

Man that sucks that they can't keep their personal problems and attitudes in the back room. Wanna have some fun? If they are crabby when you go back, just ask how the job action is going.

You ended down a bit? Sucks, but just say to yourself that you bought yourself some blue sky. Then get your butt out on the boardwalk some more! I'm 100 miles north of A.C. The weather is what I call "Brutally nice". All I could think about was that I wanted to be walking on the boardwalk. OK. On the boardwalk as I regroup between sessions at the tables..... :)

Agree with you. When dealers start talking about work and their lives I am out of there. It's just a bit unprofessional. If they chit chat about games and sports and things like that I am fine, but if they start talking about shifts, management, etc, that's a bit over the line for me.

Nice hit on the $1 Wheel. My wife hit 1,000 on the Wheel too at the Wynn. Unforunately, it was in quarters.

You would have won on craps had you bet properly :)

Congrats on the $1 WoF hit. I agree that most complaints about work/life/management should be kept in the back. However I am guilty as will %99.9 of dealers of not being professional at all times. Most of the time I am one of the most professional dealer you will ever meet. Sometimes however, even I slip. Just remember we are human too, with emotions, and unfortunately for us, and pretty much any other customer service staff, us being in a bad mood looks bad. Give us the benefit of the doubt. If its consistently bad tempered or unprofessional mention it to the pit boss. He should sort it out.

10 PM, taking a break, back in the room to get the camera and shoot some night stuff. I had a good session at 4 Card, won my way back to even for the trip, and a little ahead if it's OK to add back in what I gave Mrs M. The dealers tonight were really good; we started a chant at the table, "MaRIa, maRIa," and she joined in, dealt 5 winners. Later she dealt herself a straight flush, but everyone had folded so she didn't take any raises.

It's out to the boardwalk!

Trip's over. we walked a little, i got the shots I wanted. One bad thing about the AC casinos, the homeless people come inside later at night and start moseying through the slots mumbling for "a couple bucks to play the machine." Not good. Again, I'm sympathetic, but I'm cold on that one. I worked and paid for this.

I should have quit earlier. I lost back around $300. Overall not so bad, 4 sessions and a $300 loss. Oh, well. The difference between winning and losing is when you decide to quit; if I'd wanted to make money, I'd have gone to work today instead.
