You couldn't/wouldn't wait one day and join another tournament that wasn't designated as a women's tourney?

Karma is a bitch I guess.

I both agree and disagree with SodaWater, and both of my positions are based on the discretion of the House.

I do not agree that it was bad Karma for the reasons stated by SodaWater, mainly because there is no reason that any given man should have an inherent advantage over any given woman in Poker, it's not basketball or football so inherent advantages such as height and physical strength do not come into play. Once again, that's just a statement based on the average man v. the average woman in size and strength, obviously there are many women superior to many men at either sport.

In any event, the House permitted SodaWater to play in the tournament, they could have said no. The resentment of some of the women at the Table, in my opinion, was misdirected. I do not necessarily agree that they should have been resentful in the first place, but to the extent that they were, the resentment should have been directed at the House.

I disagree with SodaWater because the House runs the tournament and calls the shots, whether those shots be right or wrong. Despite speculations and what SodaWater suspects to be the case, that could be the way that the House handles such an event every time. If the call is out of the ordinary for the House, then the House is wrong in making that call, but the call is still made at their discretion and one has no choice but to abide by what the House decides, which is also known going into the Tournament.

Given that the format of the tournament is ideally women only, (even though the House will gladly accept a man's money to participate, at least, in this case) it is no surprise that any decision outside of obvious cheating in favor of a woman by the House is going to go in a woman's favor, which SodaWater could have factored into his decision to enter the tournament.

This exact situation happened at WSOP Main Event this year with Gaelle Baumann, except roles were reversed.....she had pocket Kings, we don't know what he had as his cards were mucked.....Ruling went agains Baumann which was also ridiculous, here is the link:

I am in the camp that if you muck and it was a mistake, that's it, you are out. The game is a mental game and when you make a mental mistake you should be penalized......how do we know this wasn't an angle......I believe I saw the same player in a similar situation in a subsequent broadcast. I guess the new play is that if you suddenly think you might get called on a stone cold, all in bluff....quickly "unknowingly" muck your cards before you get called and you can get away with it.....very bad precedent to set, there will be shot takers in the future on this one!

I don't agree with the House's decision, I didn't mean to imply that, just that they have sole discretion over what decision is made and the player has no choice but to abide.

I was in AC this past weekend and ventured over to Caesars AC because some friends of mine wanted to play there. They perused the tables and asked me which table had the best rules. They were looking to play at a $25min table.

Table 1 had the following sign:

Split any pair up to three times.
Aces may be split only once and draw one card.

Table 2 had the following sign:

Split any pair up to three times.
Aces only draw one card.

I told my friends to play at Table 2 as splitting any pair, which to me, included Aces, could be split up to three times.

We were discussing this while they were getting chips and the dealer piped in to inform us that Aces could only be split once. I pointed out the sign to the dealer and told him how it differed from the other sign and that a pair is a pair whether it be Aces or eights or threes or fives. The dealer informed me I was "taking the sign too literally" and that "everybody knows that Aces are only split once"
I asked for the pit boss, who came over and stated that I was "reading too much into the sign". I informed him that at Table 1 there was a sign expressly stating that Aces could only be split once and draw one card. He became very annoyed at informed me that "Aces only draw one card" means "Aces can only be split once". I again reiterated that, as the signs were different, one could not imply anything. He then accused me of trying to "scam the system" (I have no idea what that meant.)

House made a terrible call but OP should not be in a lady's event. It is poor taste in the poker world to put it mildly. Also, there may be laws preventing the casino from banning men from these events. I think this was the first year that WSOP could ban men from the all female event. They chose not to and instead shamed them who entered. The WSOP did enforce the age criteria for their seniors event.

LOL at entering a women's-only tournament! You better expect a lot of abuse, both from the players and here on the board ... :-))

Which casino? Things like this really piss me off, so I'd like to make sure not to patronize casinos like this.
Its - Possessive; It's - "It is" / "It has"; There - Location; Their - Possessive; They're - "They are"

I'd be the first to agree that the very idea of a womans tournament is kind of offensive. Having said that, if you were in AC, there is a poker tourney starting somewhere all the time. Why not go to one of them? I would have ragged you endlessly about entering a ladies tourney had I been there, it just begs to made fun of :)....i bet your friends bust your chops about this all the time...if not they should. Ohh and by the way you did get screwed on the call by the tourney director...but you should have seen that coming.

You can't be honestly just now learning that the casino industry is sexist?
Especially in AC.

It's considered bad juju for a man to enter a ladies tournament. I am of two minds about this. On one hand, there is no advantage men have over women at the poker table so all events should be gender neutral. On the other hand, tournament series often include a ladies tournament to try to draw more women into the game which is good for poker.

As for (perceived) bad rulings, one time at Casino Royale I was playing Switch. I switched my hand so that I had 21 and something else. Since it was a switched 21 it was not a natural so I was not paid immediately. The dealer had a 6 up and I had several cocktails in me so I decided to double down on my "11". The dealer and then the floor would not allow it. My reasoning was that it should be allowed since it was not a natural. The answer was "you have 21 you can't double down"

I concur with your reasoning. I do not know what the official Rules of Blackjack (if any) prescribe in such a situation, but to me, your hand is a Soft-21. However, what the House decides is what goes and is not worth Debating, in terms of Rules (always argue an incorrect payout) to be sure.

I've never dealt Switch so i don't know if it has specific rules for doubling on a soft 11, but where I work we'll certainly take that action on a blackjack. In fact, I often ask if the player would like to do just that. This often gets a perplexed look, that then turns to a smile as they decline my "generous offer". But I have had players do it and occasionally it works, they draw another 10 and get paid 2-1 instead of just 3-2. Of course if it doesn't work out they lose, but hey, they came to gamble, right? :)
