Whats up with United States Healt Care Program?
I never understood that you had to buy insurance if you get sick to get help - what a idiotic system.

In my country we pay around 31% in tax and have FREE healt care.
If you need a new heart you get in line or if you break a leg they fix it.
You don't need insurance to get brain surgery or to fix a broken leg.

The best is that the healt care is equal high professional.
What to say now is that you should be grateful that Obama change things to the better.
AP - It's not that it can't be done, but rather people don't really have a clue as to the level of fanaticism and outright obsession that it takes to be successful, let alone get to the level where you can take money out of the casinos on a regular basis. Out of 1,000 people that earnestly try, maybe only one will make it.

How do you figure it is "to the better"?
First you claim (rightfully so!) that it is crazy that one needs to be insured to get medical help, and next sentence you praise Obamacare that is basically a system that helps to force everyone get the insurance - the very thing you just said you disliked.

Seems a bit ... inconsistent ...

So if its free, what does the 31% in tax go for? Do you
even know what the word free means? Slow down and
think. Do you wonder if its possibe the 31% tax is paying
for your health care and its not free at all? Just a thought..

That would be why everyone comes to the United States for their Medical care ,becasuse it is equal everywhere else. It is not. I have some Canadian friends whom have the govt supplied insurance which they have to supplment with private insurance because the quality of care is not the same on the govt sponsored plan vs the private insurance. If you use the govt insurance you could die before you get the treatment you need. Our govt cannot even deliver mail in a fiscally responsible manner. The welfare and social security sytems are a mess and now they want to make us use their health care plan. Obama has pissed on our constitution every step of his presidency so far. He is a socialist and as history has proven socialism does not work. In his mind the govt should control everything because we could not possibly be smart enough to do these things on our own. We should give everything to the people and not make them work for it. After all that is how he got it done. Why work for it if the govt will give it to you. Spread the wealth even to those who refuse to contribute because they will be no further ahead then if they continue to take govt hand outs. Why stand on your own. I assure you he would also be happy if none of us owned guns or probably even gambled because that must assuredly be a rich mans sport. Which he is. I would like to know if he ever had to work at real job and pay his own way? Then he might understand why those of us that do work hard and contribute get so pissed at his his liberal socialist bull shit and do not trust the govt to run anything in a fair and efficient manner. The United States is the best country in the World and everyone should have health care available but not at the expense of our constitution and those of us who pay taxes and not certainly when it will put our country much further in debt.

I've mentioned this before here. My brother in law is a
minister in CA and his wife is Canadian. She has a
debilitating lifelong disease that isn't covered under the
'free' Canadian healthcare. Instead, they would just
let her die. Luckily he has insurance in the States
thru his church affiliation, so they come here every
6 weeks for her treatment. He always says Canadian
healthcare is great if you have nothing wrong with
you thats more than a hangnail.

Uh, no. You may pay fee for service or you may buy insurance in case you want coverage.

How on earth is paying your own way in life instead of living as a government serf "stupid?" I prefer freedom and choice in myh medical decisions. Last thing I want is the same government that decided banks have to lower underwriting standards just because not enough people with this or that skin color qualify for a loan to decide on my care.

When doctors from India no longer come to the USA then wait and see the shortage we have. Half the ERs would have to close.

As pay falls in the USA under regulation and conditions improve in India due to their development more and more will decide not to come to the USA.

Do you expect the doctor's pay to fall below that of, say, a junior level QA engineer or a convenience store operator? Because those are still coming ...

The doctor's pay might well fall below the C-Store operator. Many of those stores do very, very well. Given the doctor has 10 years or more of cost outflow via tuition whereas the C-Store generates revenue quickly it is not hard to see someone choosing the later.

But the issue is doctors. The USA does not meet our own supply. India is a major source. One reason is the doctor here lives far better than in India Imagine it is 10Xs better. Lower that to 5Xs better and more will choose not to uproot their lives. 2-3Xs better and you really have a problem.

Only if there is less demand in doctors then convenience stores. If that happens ... that just means we had way too many doctors before. That's called free market.

Not just a doctor. A QA engineer too ... or an assembly line worker.
Now, the question is how much better does a doctor live here then a QA guy. That's (at least) how much you can lower the gap with India, without taking away their desire to come.

This QA guy earns as much as a junior doctor. I work less hours too. I'll never earn as much as senior doctor of general practitioner, but I wouldn't want to do their job either...

Yeah. EvenBob, can you provide more details? What debilitating illness is it?

If you can provide us with the illness, I'll write my member of parliament regarding the issue and I'll advise others to do the same. We can fight to get it included, especially if it is life threatening. I'm sure the media here would also get involved.

No, it is only the free market if it is free. When Obamacare puts a lid on what the doctor can charge his revenue is no longer a function of demand, it is based on the allowed price times the allowed or available units to be sold.

I have no idea what it is. Nobody has talked about it in
years, its not exactly polite conversation. All I remember
is some complicated drug program that Canada won't
pay for. Are you under the impression that everything
is covered in CA? It isn't.

Canada is doing well with it's overall debt compared to other G-7 nations. Is this Obama-care more far reaching than Canadian public health care? I don't know if that sounds like a naive question, but I never investigated the details.

Dont forget all the Canadian doctors too that flee to the USA paydays as soon as they graduate..... Alberta is Canada's wealthy province and with two cities with over a million population each in the province we have a total of 3 yes THREE Neurosurgeons....as my doctor says they get educated here and head stateside as fast as they can

I do not think the author of this article read the article linked in "announced". The provision merely states that if the insurer is asking for a more than 10% increase in premiums they must be submitted for review to the state or federal regulators. The state regulators can approve or deny the increase, while the federal HHS has zero power the deny an increase. The only change I can see from current law is that an increase over 10% must be annouced publicly. I am not sure how this qualifies as a price cap that will limit doctors income.

I thought we were talking about capping/controlling doctor's rates not insurance. This is an entirely different topic.
Insurance prices are actually pretty heavily regulated (in most states anyway) as it is. This is just a slight change in procedure.
